Your cat is domesticated, so she may not have all of the instincts of a “wild” cat; however, most cats require no intervention at all while giving birth. In fact, your cat may purposely seek out solitude when she goes into labor. Most cats would prefer to be left alone, and they definitely don’t want to be pet or touched while they are giving birth. It’s best to give your pregnant cat as much privacy as possible while also leaving yourself the ability to monitor the birthing process for any signs of issues or distress.

Don’t be surprised if your cat decides to give birth in a location other than the “nest” you have prepared for mom and her kittens. If this occurs, don’t be afraid to move the kittens to the box you prepared after they are born. It’s perfectly fine to pick up and handle newborn kittens; carefully touching them will not cause your cat to abandon her kittens or injure them.

-Keep your cat Hydrated.
-Provide plenty of shade.
-Don't overexcite your cat.
On really hot days, an active cat will quickly become exhausted and dehydrated. Instead, encourage a more relaxed approach to the day, or for an inquisitive cat, put down a couple of ice cubes for your cat to play with.
-Brushing.
Brushing your cat will help keep her cooler by removing dead fur and dander from her coat.
-Don’t leave food out.
Avoid leaving your cat’s food out all day, as it can become a breeding ground for bugs and bacteria in hot weather.
Only put wet food in your cat’s bowl at feeding time for them to eat immediately, then pick up any uneaten food when they've finished to prevent bacteria spreading.

Exciting news from Mount Everest: rare Pallas’s cat recently discovered on the world’s highest mountain! 🏔️

In 2019, a team of scientists, including Tracie Seimon of Wildlife Conservation Society and Nat Geo Explorer Anton Seimon, collected environmental samples from two locations in the Sagarmatha National Park in Nepal. The DNA analysis of samples collected from both sites now confirm two Pallas’s cats inhabit Mount Everest and overlap in territory with red fox! The researchers also found evidence of pika and mountain weasel DNA in the samples—an important food source for Pallas’s cat.

This groundbreaking finding is a result of the 2019 National Geographic and ROLEX Everest Expedition—the most comprehensive single scientific expedition to the mountain in history.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates has recently announced his investment in Rumin8, an Australian start-up aimed towards reducing methane emissions in cow burps and farts.

According to the UN Environment Programme, lowering methane in the environment can slow climate change over the next 25 years. Methane is produced in the stomach of cows as they digest food and almost one-third of the world’s methane emissions come from the farming of these animals.

A study conducted in 2021 found introducing small amounts of seaweed in a cow’s diet can reduce their methane emissions by about 80%. Rumin8 aims to produce a seaweed-based feed that not only reduces methane emissions from livestock but is also affordable for developing countries.

Gates led a $12 million investment in the company through Breakthrough Energy Ventures, his investment firm that aims to accelerate innovation in sustainable energy.
