Creatures Comfort - SASCAP came into existence with the mission of becoming a platform to raise awareness and protect the voiceless creatures, especially dogs, of Karachi. Our aim is to n

ot only focus on educating the people of our community, but also provide necessary protection through our shelter, food, treatment, relocation services, and overall rescue of dogs (and other animals such as donkeys) across the city of Karachi under certain policies. We focus on those cases that pertain to dog and donkey abuse, whether they may be minor injuries, extreme physical abuse on the streets, or those who may be subject to being purposely poisoned and killed by authorities and civilians. We thoroughly believe and work upon improving the state of dogs to the best of our capabilities and make sure that through our projects we can make great differences along the way. In this Op-Ed for The Express Tribune, , our Animal Law Teaching Fellow and Lewis & Clark Law School Animal Law LLM alumna ('20, Pakistan) argues that there is dire need to update Pakistan’s anti-cruelty legislation. She explains that Pakistan’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1890 "is a colonial era inheritance that our legislatures have never repealed or amended (save a 2018 amendment to update penalties at the federal level). The PCA Act is little known, outdated and underenforced, with its penalties serving as no meaningful deterrent against cruelty to animals."

Hira urges that real progress for animals in Pakistan will require provincial buy-in "to ensure that any reforms are implemented across the board..."

Many people enjoy the blasting and booming sounds and flashing lights of fireworks. Unfortunately, they can be terrifying and overwhelming for indoor as well as outdoor animals and possibly hazardous. The noise is just as overwhelming when fireworks are set off in residential areas on weekdays and working residents are effected at odd hours of the night 😕😕

This New Year night, many animals will become traumatized by the noise and commotion of fireworks. House pets will run from otherwise familiar environments and people, and sadly, sometimes become lost. Birds sleeping in trees will also get injured. These birds are sometimes seen flying off in fright and confusion due to noise – they will eventually be caught in the cross fire of exploding colors and zipping bullets.
Fireworks not just add pollution to our already bad air quality but recently have been becoming a menace during wedding season blasting off at odd hours of the night while nearby residents struggle to get a good night of restful sleep.
Governments have over time imposed various bans on fireworks and aerial firing but sadly rules continue to be ignored. Such disregard and ignorance has claimed human & animal lives.

Dogs and cats left outside or home alone may go to extreme lengths to escape the explosions. Some end up hit by cars or killed in other ways as they flee. They may also injure themselves or others in their panic and terror—particularly if they are tied up or caged.

Wild animals are also vulnerable during fireworks displays, not only because of the high levels of stress that such displays may cause but also because fireworks that explode near them may injure or kill them. Those who are rearing their young may abandon them to starve to death in order to flee for their own lives.

Did you know that stray dogs wake up very early in the morning with the aim of looking for food 🍗 and water 💦 to stop hunger?

If they find nothing, they start eating w**d to feel like they are chewing something and then end up falling asleep all day, outside a house, at bus stops, trying to save what little energy they have.

When they wake up the hunger has not gone away, on the contrary, it has increased and they go to the garbage bags.

Please help the street dogs, by feeding them. Many people chase them away but they too belong to this world 🌎
Do not be indifferent it is terrible to suffer from hunger and thirst and not be able to speak. Street dogs just want to survive.

With heavy heart we are writing this post that we have alot of pets for adoption because their owner's are no more willing to keep them Whether it is a breed dog or cat, or a local pet. Everyone wants to get rid of their pet. Shelters are not place for pets. We are non operational at the moment but multiple calls we are getting for pets Adoption or they want to relocate their pet to shelter so that he/she could not get return back to their home again.

Even after our adoption posts, many animal lovers try to approach us specifically for breed dogs & cats. But after certain time they also abandoned them or return us back.

WHY YOU TAKE PETS WHEN YOU CAN'T KEEP THEM?

Pets are either dumped on the streets, left alone in vacant properties or remote areas, or dropped off to animal shelters. However, people start realizing, that they do not have enough time for their pet or are just not as interested in their pet anymore, they are reselling their pets, surrendering them to shelters and sadly for some abandoning them on the streets.

This requires careful consideration, in terms of thinking and different solutions should be considered first before you decide to give your pet up. You should never abandon your pet, especially as it may be illegal!

⛔ THE HARMFUL CONSEQUENCES CAUSED BY PET ABANDONMENT
Leaving dogs and cats behind harms the animals, their owners and shelters 🐾🐾

The abandoning of pets has far-reaching consequences for the animals involved as well as for the community. Abandonment exposes dogs and cats to an uncertain fate, once on the streets they must fend for themselves and may suffer from hunger, thirst, injuries and diseases. As well as feeling distressed and confused because they have been left on their own in an unfamiliar place by their owner.

Furthermore, dumping animals has consequences for the community that many people are often unaware of: The animals may pose a road safety risk if they run out in front of cars searching for their owner. They may cause a ‘nuisance’ to the community searching for food, barking at other dogs, or even biting someone due to feeling unsafe.

The fate of pets is almost always tragic. Their survival chances without their owner's are not much. While some pets are picked up by animal shelters, the authorities or taken in by people who find them, many are not so lucky, and they must live on the streets in constant fear forced to take care of themselves.

For the first time in🇵🇰 , school students will be taught a course on animal welfare, as the country takes a step towards ensuring the rights of the innocent.

The course is expected to be introduced across Islamabad's schools, Head of the Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Salman Sufi announced in a tweet Saturday.

Sufis said that the "special course" will be rolled out with an aim to ensure that show and have a humane approach towards animals so they can be better citizens.

All remember this baby who is suffering badly, we tried to approach the owner and now he is demanding for money. He told us that he is selling him in 55000/- upon which we convinced him to sell us in 65000/- for which he got agreed.

There is no such law in Pakistan through which we can forcefully take someone's pet by claiming that he is not properly taken care of.

So now we have decided to save him by raising funds that will be shared directly to owner's account to get the dog.

I think so if we all will contribute with minimum we can save this soul who is in terrible condition and if get ignored, the owner might sell him or abondon him.

🔸In rural areas, they are often used in farming and for transporting goods to market. Working donkeys are often the most important productive asset for some of the poorest people in society.

It’s a noble gesture; winters and rainy seasons are problematic for dogs and cats. Try to help "Animals" 🐶😼 in your surroundings whoever is in need. Try to create a makeshift shelter from normal gunny bags, rain sheets to keep them in shade.
If possible, you can allow them inside your house compound during the nights to take shelter. You can give them some warm milk, place water bowls for them.

Pakistan Ministry of Federal Education & Training banned unnecessary harmful testing on animals.

Head of Prime Minister's Strategic Reform Unit, Salman Sufi announced historic new measures, he stated "Live testing of animals in vet colleges and industrial complexes is banned from today in Islamabad Capital Territory."

The big news is a result of urgent letters sent by PETA to the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training calling on it to ban harmful veterinary training exercises on animals. We hope it'll be implemented to the maximum extent.

⛔ BAN UPLOADING/UNLOADING OF SACRIFICIAL ANIMALS FROM ROOFTOP THROUGH CRANE In Karachi, the #ban on keeping sacrificial animals on rooftops and uploading/unloading them from cranes has been denounced by citizens Eid-al-Adha is one of the two most important festivals of the Islamic calendar and commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim, or Abraham, to sacrifice his son on God’s command. Muslims mark the holiday by slaughtering animals such as sheep and goats and sharing the meat with family and friends, as well as donating it to the poor. According to News, the citizens of Karachi have once again blasted the ban imposed by the Sindh government. Another sacrificial animal had an accident, video which is circulating on social media where animal been tied with crane for moving on to the roof top. It can be remembered that due to the animal falls from the crane last year, the Sindh government banned the raising of cattle on the roofs of high-rise buildings and the unloading from the crane. However, this year too, sacrificial animals are being uploaded/unloaded from tall buildings using cranes in different areas of #Pakistan specially in Karachi which needs to be stopped.
