Cat presented with a history of vaginal purulent discharge mixed with blood. Upon ultrasonography multiple pockets of Payometra seen. So it was diagnosed as a case of open pyometra.

After uneffective medicinal treatment spaying was advised to the owner.

Today she has been spayed successfully.

Lumpy skin disease (LSD)‼️‼️
🔴Cause: Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV)
🔴Host species
🔸Cattle and buffalo (Virus does not affect sheep and goats)
🔴Transmission and risk factors:
🔸Spread by biting insects and directly by infected saliva.
🔸 Incidence in highest in wet summer
🔴Incubation period
🔸4-14 days ( it is period between entry of virus into the animals and development of signs of disease)
🔴Clinical signs:
🔸Fever
🔸 Lacrimation
🔸 Nasal discharge
🔸 Hyper salivation
🔸Round, raised, firm and painful nodules on skin and mucosa of respiratory, ge***al and gastrointestinal tracts
🔸Edema of brisket and legs
🛑Losses
🔸 Losses are due to weight loss of the animal during the course of disease.
🔸Mortality (death) is usually low but mortality occurs due to formation of nodules on nasal cavity that result in suffocation and ultimately death of animals in severe cases.
🔴Zoonosis
🔸 Most of the research reports that disease is only limited to animals and is not transmitted to humans but it is still debatable
🔸Meat of diseased animal can be safely used.
🔴Vaccination and treatment
🔸 Vaccine is available in market that helps the control of disease
🔸 Once the animal develops the disease then there is no specific treatment of animal and only supportive treatment is recommended for survival of the animal.
🔴Suggestion and precautions
🔸Carefully inspect the animals for the presence of signs of diseases before purchasing animals.
🔸It is better to purchase animals (cattle and buffalo) just 2-3 days before Eid because one can not differentiate the infected animal that has not yet showed the signs of disease.
🔸Contact your nearby qualified veterinary professional in case of any emergency.
