Position your dog facing you, place a bowl and put one treat.
Release your dog on cue; we apply âbigâ movements as we want our dog to work overtime at a great distance from us.
Build on the behaviour by adding a plate to the left and, lastly, one behind.
You can increase the difficulty of the behaviour by adding distance to your dog, moving the bowls further from your dog or having treats in all three bowls.

Short how-toâs and often made or edited at home. Following a simple step in a video can absolutely help you teach your dog a new behavior, but itâs never a quick-fix for a long lasting behavioral problem you might be dealing with. Quick fixes do work, short term, but if youâre looking for longer lasting solutions, then we have to do the hard work, which takes more time than a 1 min training session.We LOVE that youâre trying the tutorials we make for you! But also want to make clear, that none of these are going to fix anything in just one session. Obviously, that is not as catchy as telling you â do this, and your will never lunge at another dog againâ, but this is the reality. We can teach behaviors fairly quickly, but for them to be reliable and ready to use in the real outside world, no 1 minute session is going to cut it! This dog showed behaviors that indicated, that umbrellas have a whole mob of monsters inside them,- so when they open, he quickly moved away, tail tucked all the way to his stomach and ears tightly pinned back.
Since rain is a common thing here, we did a session working with it.
This is his first session, and by giving him âcontrolâ over the umbrella, heâs already showing a completely different set of behaviors.
By teaching him that when he touches the target, the umbrella moves, heâs now learning to see the umbrella moving, as a marker.
This is not finished in any way, itâs just an initial session, but I have high hopes, that itâll all be OK soon!
How would you choose to work with a situation like this?
There are plenty of different ways to teach heel position. In this way, we are using the help of platforms and targets, while being mindful of fading the targets quickly.
If your dog is unfamiliar with sitting on a platform, this should be taught first. :-)
