SALINAS, PUERTO RICO- U.S. Army Reserve-PR Soldiers assigned to the 597th Quartermaster Company received a briefing from Mr. Marcelo Cedeño, 166th Brigade Safety and Occupational Health Specialist. During the briefing soldiers discussed and reviewed the Range Safety Controls and Considerations. In addition, they emphasized the importance of implementing the Army Reserve Risk Mitigation Procedures for training in a COVID-19 environment. Medidas preventivas hacen la diferencia en la Reserva del Ejército de Estados Unidos en Puerto Rico

FORT BUCHANAN, PR- Las medidas preventivas que el comando de la Reserva del Ejército de Estados Unidos en Puerto Rico está tomando para mitigar el riesgo de propagación del Coronavirus/COVID-19, han resultado efectivas, basados en los datos disponibles hasta el momento.

“El distanciamiento social está siendo muy efectivo para nuestros soldados, empleados civiles y familiares. De los resultados positivos de COVID-19 reportados por las autoridades de salud locales, tenemos seis casos de soldados. Uno de ellos se recuperó totalmente, y los otros se están recuperando satisfactoriamente, y deben regresar a sus trabajos próximamente. Al día de hoy no tenemos soldados hospitalizados y no tenemos nuevos casos reportados,” dijo el General Jeffrey W. Jurasek, comandante general del Comando Geográfico del Caribe, con base en el Fuerte Buchanan.

Según se informó la pasada semana, el comando de la Reserva en Puerto Rico ha tomado medidas agresivas para velar por la salud y la seguridad de los soldados, familiares y civiles, luego de que se reportara el primer caso de COVID-19 en uno de sus soldados, quien es residente del estado de Texas, y quien estuvo brevemente en Puerto Rico el 7-8 de Marzo.

“Para prevenir el contagio, inmediatamente nos aseguramos de que aquellos soldados que tuvieron contacto cercano con el individuo infectado, fueran puestos en restricción de movimiento, nos aseguramos de que fueran aislados y de que se les haga la prueba de laboratorio, de ser necesario. Además reducimos la cantidad de personal reportándose a sus comandos y autorizamos el trabajo a distancia, como forma de promover el distanciamiento social entre nuestras tropas. Estamos monitoreando muy de cerca a nuestros soldados dos veces al día y verificamos su estado de salud. Debido a las medidas que hemos tomado para monitorear la exposición y minimizar la congregación de soldados, no proyectamos que haya ningún impacto adverso a los residentes de la isla, o al nivel de preparación del comando para llevar a cabo su misión,” dijo Jurasek.

El oficial del Ejército también explicó que un número limitado de personal, quienes sean esenciales para la misión, estarán también siendo evaluados por personal médico militar, cuando se reporten a trabajar, para asegurarse de que no tienen síntomas, antes de que entren a sus áreas de trabajo.

“El propósito de estas medidas es proteger a nuestra fuerza, mientras nos aseguramos que nuestro comando se mantiene listo para responder a órdenes de movilización de la autoridad nacional, en caso de ser necesario,” añadió Jurasek, quien es el único general del Ejército en Puerto Rico y el Caribe, con autoridad federal permanente bajo el titulo 10 del código de Estados Unidos.
