It’s still the first OFFICIAL week of January so we can reflect on 2024, right? 🥹

Wow wow wow!!
What a beautiful year it has been!
It all started with Lola and Lilo and it finished with the 6 Belgian mix pups 🐶

91 puppies flown out and adopted 🩷
4 momma dogs spayed and adopted 🩷
8 cats rescued spayed and 4 adopted 🩷
7 stray dogs sterilized 🩷

Our founder Johanna Diaz started rescuing on December 30 2023!!
110 rescues babies later!! We are stronger than ever! We have so many goals and ambitions for these animals in need!

What started as a little help here and there turn out to be a whole movement! Connections with vet clinics, fosters, travelers, other colleagues, boarding, adopting families but most importantly agencies in the US helping us out with the rescue activities and looking for the best families to adopt our satos… what an amazing ride!

We would like to double this number for 2025 😇 but we can only do that with your help!!

Los 5 de Vega Baja 🩷

**Brown Sugar was adopted directly from our organization and is living her best life in Connecticut 🙌🏾
**Zo was also adopted directly from our organization and is living her best life in Chicago 🙌🏾
**Don Ruperto was also adopted directly from our organization and was able to stay in Puerto Rico 🙌🏾
**Manchita is enjoying her time with our amazing foster in Chicago and will soon be going to adoption event… cross your fingers 🙌🏾
**Pelu is on his way to NY to join our partner rescue organization where he will be staying with his foster until he gets adopted 🙌🏾

What an amazing ride!!!! We heard their momma is doing really well, was sterilized and boarded and is now pending adoption in the States 🩷🩷

Thank you Jesus for this amazing Christmas present you gave us!!

Esto es lo que hace el AMOR 🧡

Zo is taking his freedom flight ✈️ tomorrow to Chicago where he will be at a foster-to-adopt home… please pray everything goes well 🐶

We got this litter early enough to treat them and were able to turn them all around and now they are getting their forever homes 🏡
One more week and they would have literally died!

Thank God Manchita was outside the gate and we were able to see her and her siblings 🥰

🐶 SUNDAYS ARE FOR PUPPIES 🐶

We took on this beautiful case in Vega Baja and since now we have to be absolutely transparent on what we will be doing with these pups and momma so that there is no confusion or misunderstandings… here we go!

Momma Sarita ☀️ with the help of the rescuer she will stay by her house while we complete all her protocols! She will need grooming, vaccines and OF COURSE sterilization… we will put her up for adoption once all the protocols have been completed! If she is not adopted, she will stay around the rescue’s home and guaranteed a better life than in the streets! This doggy was abandoned by the neighbors, they up and left so she knows her community very well 🫶

9 pups!! Luckily we have our sister partner in NY who will take on all of them 🫠🫠🫠 I just LOVE working with them because they get the best adopting families and their follow up is INCREDIBLE… I love the pictures and their future stories!! Stay tuned for those!

WHAT DO WE NEED NOW?!?
We have already completed the first protocols and on the 17th of December we will be completing the second and last protocols before we start flying them out 🙏
1. $30 will cover seconds shots + Bordetella + F***l for each pup!! Let us know which one you would like to sponsor!!
2. $125 will cover their individual flight ticket to NY
3. $49.99 will cover their traveling bag + health certificate
4. $120 will cover the Sarita’s protocol vaccines and spay 🫶

How sad it is that any rescuer has to make a post explaining a rescuing situation or even having to clarify FACTS about a rescue!! But here we go!!

The Vega Baja rescue!
My husband and I were driving and saw Manchita in the streets trying to enter a gate and couldn’t, as we approached her, 4 more babies came out to say hi.
This was at a church and the pastor’s wife came out to greet us! Mind you these puppies were malnourished, ridden in ticks and fleas and lice.
The FIRST thing we ask is where is the mom?… the lady mentioned the mom was a stray dog that she fed and she was not there.

So this was the plan we had!!!
1. We asked the lady to continue feeding her and let us know when she was there so we can come pick her up.
2. We will pick her up, spay her, heal her, board her because we do not have a facility and put her up for adoption. If the adoption didn’t happen, it will end up being a TNR case since it was believed that she was a stray dog.
3. We came the next day and took the pups, mom was not around.
4. We started the protocols, took videos and pics, found fosters for all of them and posted to ask for donations.
5. We got a message from another rescuer that she had the mom and if we could help with her because she had gotten spayed 3 days prior to when we rescued the pups.
6. We contacted her and we asked if in her plan was to take the puppies. No answer to this question and it was more of “we had to take the mom”
7. We went through a conversation where we decided to work the mom together by the original plan we had which was boarding the mom, for 2 weeks to see if we could get an adopting family if not it will have to be a TNR (she was already spayed at the time of this conversation)
8. The rescuer found a boarding and unfortunately less than a week the mom was kicked out because of barking.
9. The rescuer calls me and at that time we were busy tending to other things.
10. The next day we see post after post of how horrible we are and why we didn’t take the mom and that it was our responsibility to do so.
YES we decided to step away from it all, specially because we will not entertain false accusations that will bring negativity to all the good that is being done ☀️

We still have a plan and it will not be with this rescuer! It will be with our own group of supporters and friends!! Follow us!! Help us!! Let’s continue our journey 🧡

Guess who is up for adoption 🫶
Bowie is 🧡💛🧡

Bowie was dumped like a piece of waste at the acueducto plant in Naguabo to fend for herself. She was almost attacked by the big dogs that run the plant but she was blessed to be seen by the manager and taken to the office until we got her some help!

Bowie has gone through so much!
🥺 She tested positive for Lepto and spent 3 weeks in medical boarding. She now tests negative for Lepto 🥺 We are managing her heart worm and she will receive treatment in the near future.

🐶 She’s a mix sato, a beautiful one
🐶 Around 2 years old
🐶 She’s vaccinated and spayed
And the best of all is that she is going to be in training/obedience school for 30 days! Her foster is going all out for her!!! In her evaluation she tested very high in intelligence and learning capacity.

She will do very well in a home with no other dogs! She’s definitely alpha ♥️ loves cuddles and guarding her place! She barely barks and she will make a great companion! Oh! And she doesn’t really care for cats… she leaves them alone 👌
We have not had them around children as of yet, so a house with adults will be best!

This week has been DOGGIE SUCCESSFUL ♥️🙌🏾🐶
We were able to send off Mikey and Fred who were born in a farm in Toa Alta 🫶

Lady, Luna and Stella were the last of Mancha’s litter 🥺
Remember Mancha? The big red nose pit pregnant and abandoned in Orocovis who had 13 pups!!!!
Tonight Mr. Julian leaves from our Cupey 5 🤭

We totally understand that this is just a little grain of sand in an entire ocean!! HOWEVER, it is a little “grain” that is no longer suffering, pregnant, abandoned or sick 😥

Shout out to our beautiful flight angels that are so selfless!!! Rich in the picture fought nails and teeth to get Mikey to Manhattan and Vanessa is not only taking our 3, she also convinced her friends to take 3 more 🤭 GOLDEN!

WE ARE LOOKING FOR FOSTERS

Yesterday we received a message about “Nena” a momma dog who lives in a public housing community in Vega Baja that had 7 puppies.
Take a look at the momma!!! She has had it rough!! She has gone through so much 🥹

We couldn’t turn a blind eye!! We contacted the person who is taking care of her and the pups and started protocols!!

Today we took her to the vet and was turned down because she didn’t let anyone touch her 😓

This is what our organization needs help with:
1. Food (Wet and Dry)
2. Dewormer
3. Preventatives and vitamins
4. Puppies and Momma Vaccines
5. Momma will need much more… it’s going to be a long way with her 😓

Eventually we will put the babies for adoption and spay momma and hopefully get her spayed ♥️

Let’s talk about Lala’s PUPPIES 🐶

When we originally saw Lala’s picture, we counted and saw 5 pups! We said… OK not too bad…
Well SURPRISE SURPRISE…. When she stood up there were 4 more behind her 😇🤪

9 pups!!! We had so much fun naming them!! And they each have an amazing story to share ♥️♥️
Today we will introduce them all the following days we will introduce each and their loving adoption story 🙌🏾

🐶 TODAY IS ALL ABOUT LALA 🐶

We were scrolling through our phone and saw the first picture along with someone asking for help!
When we saw Lala’s face of sadness, worry and hopelessness while surrounded by 10 babies… we could not say no ♥️

We asked the lady on the post to grab her and the babies that Johanna our founder will got get them!
We found a foster for the first month and another foster for another couple months! We worked this family so diligently 😓 in less than 3 months pups were adpoted and so was mama Lala 🇵🇷

With the help of donors and lots of hearts open we were able to complete health protocols, adoption requests and traveling outside of PR!
What would we do without the help of many ♥️

Watch out for each of the little bundles of joy stories on the next posts!!!

🐶 SUNDAY IS FOR THE PUPPIES 🐶

Guess what!!! One At A Time Rescue has made a miraculous partnership with a foster-based-organization in Chicago 🙏
As long as we can find fosters, this organization will take the pup under their wings, providing the foster all they need to socialize the pup and sterilizing, microchipping and taking the pup to different adoption events!!!

This is such an amazing help for our huge need in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

Arlo & Nirvana ♥️
A sweet and sour story!

These babies were rescued by a colleague of ours! A lady who is absolutely dedicated to the well being of doggies 🫶
She presented this case to us and asked for help flying them out, finding fosters in the states and eventually finding forever homes!

We took on the case and went to work, found fosters, flight angels and flew them out!
Arlo went with our foster Amanda and Nirvana went with our foster Peter!

Unfortunately, Nirvana caught parvovirus at some point before heading out and she did not make it!! And boy oh boy did the foster try to save this baby 😩 it was such a heartbreaking experience!

Arlo made it! He didn’t get the virus luckily! He was with Amanda for about a month until we found him an amazing family! Now he is 50 pound, gorgeous and making a family super happy!!

It’s never pretty in the life of a rescuer 😩 you always want to do more and more for these babies! But like all of our colleagues say… “we can’t save them all” 🥺🥺🥺

‼️‼️TODAY IS OREO’S TURN TO SHINE‼️‼️
Formerly known as Prince, he was found inside of a pillow case thrown at one of the “doggie dumpster”beach with 3 of his sisters 🥹
When the rescuer passed by, she just couldn’t leave them there 🥴

We had the blessing of finding an amazing family for Oreo and look at him now ♥️ he rose and is now part of them 🙏

The best part… he was adopted by a good friend of our Founder Johanna Diaz 🤩🤩 so FOR SURE he is in the best hands!!

His sisters weren’t so lucky… they are still sitting at a shelter here in Puerto Rico 🥹

They help us take care of them, socialize them, and get them house broken 😊 so that when they get adopted it is an easier transition!
