The Countdown!
Giving Tuesday is just days away. A day created to bring people around the world together to honor the values of service and giving back. We're hoping that you'll remember us and our efforts to provide for the 144 rescues in our care. It's a labor of love and our needs are critical to our day-to-day survival.

This year, we are fundraising to feed our rescues through the holiday season. Our daily routine consists of dry and canned food, cooked rice in broth served with pumpkin purée. We buy food once a month as we live up in the mountains of Villalba and even simple tasks are challenging. Your donation is our lifeline to keeping our promise to protect and provide for them all.

To feed our rescues for 2 months takes a shocking $4,500. This need will sadly come regardless of our end fundraising results.

Each donations provides peace of mind that is so desperately needed in this high stress passion to bring change to their lives. Any size donation helps and if you could share our mission, we are grateful.

*Update! Everyone arrived safety to their destinations thanks many amazing animal lovers. We are still a long way from covering our transportation bill. We understand that everyone is stretch, but any amount truly helps ❤️ With our deepest gratitude ~

Today begins our long-awaited transport for EIGHT lucky rescues off the island! Among them is our three-legged sweetheart, Starr! It's been a year since her dramatic rescue at only 1.7 pounds on a mountain road. She's beaten the odds and battled her challenges like a champ; we couldn't be more excited for this amazing little girl.

Transportation off the island is extremely difficult to secure and the expenses are staggering, but it's the only option and we must find a way to fulfill our promises. We can't stress enough how each dollar goes towards creating these opportunities and achieving our mission. Our lucky eight will land in Miami by morning and take a ground transport up the coast to New Hampshire to deliver our first four and then on to Vermont for the final four. Expenses may be high, but the end result is priceless. Thank you, thank you, thank you for donating and sharing! ✈️🐾

With our overcrowded shelter, it can heartbreakingly take years for rescues to have their moment and their number called! Today, we are thrilled for these three fabulous lovebugs to make their way to Minnesota by way of Chicago! On behalf of Lizzy, Wishbone and Rita, thank you to Jeanie and I.D. Maramba for your amazing sacrifice of time to help us bridge the gap to Forever Loved and to our wonderful supporters, thank you for helping us be a part of a much bigger picture to bring about change in all of their lives! A letter to the person who abandoned you,
We woke up to find your puppies frightened and left alone at our gates. Weather was on its way and you walked away never knowing their fate. What you may not know is that we are stretched...wall to wall with rescues patiently waiting their turn, not a single space that isn't occupied. In a moment, your actions impacted ours. As rescuers, we are all struggling both emotionally and financially. We sit with our head in our hands and wonder if you truly understood how frail our hearts are as we live in this constant state of despair. Would you have made a different decision had you known. Please sterilize your pets, it's the only hope that we have to slow this crisis. Thank you ~

Education...can change the world!
Today, our team lead by our amazing volunteer Jeannine, had the opportunity to educate students from grades 9-12 at the Lysander Borrero Terry High School in Villalba, Puerto Rico. They spoke about the importance of vaccinations, sterilizations, preventions, quality of life, respect and empathy towards all animals. In addition, the critical education surrounding Law 154 which protects the health and welfare of animals.

We want to thank Mrs. Neisha Vázquez Mñz (English Educator) and Mrs. Sandra Alvarado (Health Educator) for the initiative to start addressing the present situation to our future generations.

Thank you to all students who donated canned meat, dry food, cleaning items and dishes. Our gratitude for participating and being open to learning how to make an impact in their communities. We can't forget our little girl Rita, who accompanied us to show what it means to truly turn a life around from complete abandonment. Rita is now up for adoption! www.scarpr.org

In honor of National Make a Dog's Day, we are excited to introduce you to our newest rescue and very brave girl, Nutmeg. This day was created to bring awareness to senior and special needs rescues in hopes of going the extra mile for shelter dogs in need.

We couldn't be more excited to share her story with you as she successfully completed her emergency surgery just days ago when she was hit by a car. Heartbreakingly, Nutmeg was rushed to our vet after tragically losing her eye. She received the urgent surgical care needed, x-rays, testing, sterilization, and vaccinations...everything!

She's the sweetest girl who loves to give kisses and wag her tail, she's absolutely the best!

Please help us meet her medical needs if you are able, anything truly helps. Together, we can say YES to more amazing rescues in need.

Just one day...
It was a full circle day...I spent the morning at the clinic with 4 sterilizations, 1 rescue in need of X-rays, and 1 needed blood/ chemistry work. With everyone in recovery and doing well, I began the drive back from the clinic through a huge thunderstorm while counting over 50 strikes of lightning and arriving at our rescue, Sato City. I can hear the generator running indicating more continued days of no running street water.

The night before, I had found this small kitten in the pouring rain as he sat in the middle of the mountain road. He's now on antibiotics for 14 days due to a respiratory infection. After arriving back to the rescue, I was informed that at our local Agriculture store, a cat had been hit by a car and killed. She was always at the door to greet customers, sadly she left behind 4 -14 day old kittens now orphaned. I stepped up and brought them back to the rescue to begin daily and nightly bottle feedings.

The last empty room is the bathroom, there is no more space...

When you commit yourself to being a rescuer, you know that you can't save them all, but you do what you can. Yes, it's a huge sacrifice of my life, 24/7, 365 days a year, but they are the voiceless how can I not. This is just an example of 1 day in my life. I now must reach out to our followers for your support; I can't do this without you.

In the dark of the night…
we found a cardboard box left at our gates. Inside this box were four beautiful, 3 month old puppies. It’s been 6 months now and these super duper outgoing Labs are fully vetted, sterilized and eating us out of house at home! We are fundraising today to help feed not only these four siblings, but our full shelter that has been at capacity for more months than we can count.

The numbers speak for themselves -

14 pound bag of small breed
20 pound bag of puppy
70 pounds of adult FOOD DAILY!

That's a lot of food and we have many more mouths to feed than ever before. Each day is a challenge and it would be a wonderful gift to be able to provide for their most basic and critical need without worry.

We continue to be touched and inspired by any size donation. We are stronger together!
