From Gaza
A message from Saeed. Things are very very very difficult during this endless war, in this heat and with so little goods coming into Gaza. The shipment we received the end of April, it contained animal food but it also contained a pallet of veterinary medicine, and the medicine was supposed to be delivered a week later, but it’s still stuck at the checkpoint today. Low supply leads to high prices and many people in Gaza are angry at those who are selling food at high prices. A lot of people are also fighting each other in Gaza and society is falling apart. Through all of this, Saeed is gracefully keeping his humanity and manages to continue to give people the benefit of the doubt. Like whenever pages show up of people claiming to be animal rescuers in Gaza asking for donations, as a volunteer I am usually quick to assume that people aren’t doing this from their hearts but just to get money. Because before the war Sulala was the only animal support organization, and sulala knew about those in Gaza that love animals and help them. And often we don’t know the people behind these pages. But Saeed always likes to investigate before accusing anyone. Because maybe they are good. Also because there is too much work to do for animals in Gaza, there are too many cases that need to be followed up with, and he can’t do it alone.I don’t know how he finds the patience. We also want to make a google doc collecting all the fundraisers of the people that we know are helping animals. We just need some time to collect the links.
Concerning the food prices, I am inclined to think that sellers sell at high prices because they need to buy food at high prices for their families, the food is also extremely expensive. But many people in Gaza think it’s not fair. And of course, we are only on the outside looking in.
