Sol ☀️

[ENG] On a school field trip to the market a few weeks ago, a man selling animals gave Sol (who we originally named Pullie) to a young student. The teachers irresponsibly accepted this “gesture” thinking they’d find someone within their rural area who was capable of caring for him. They were wrong. Luckily, one of the teachers searched around until they found us. We fostered this vibrant angel for a few days while we figured out what was best for Sol. Our good friends connected us to Monica, who has a micro sanctuary of her own. We vetted her to ensure that Sol would be in good hands, and we couldn’t have found a better place for him. He was loved from the moment he arrived at his forever home, where he was greeted by his furry, human, & (unimpressed) feathered family. Now, Sol spends his days foraging, swimming, and being cuddled.

☀️ While Sol now has a loving home, please know that this could have ended badly for him. Animals are not toys or objects. They are living, sentient beings. We must take full responsibility to give them the care and quality of life they deserve for as long as they live. Please keep that in mind when you have an animal in your care.

☀️ We are all doing our best to care for our rescued babies, and Monica does so with very little support. If you’d like to send her some love/tokens of appreciation, please let us know!

🇬🇧 What an amazing Volunteer Day we had last Sunday and what a lot of people showed up. We are very appreciative for all the help and we accomplished so much together. We couldn't do these extra tasks so quickly without all of your help! 🙏🏻

The pigs will have a dry and clean bed and they will be very happy with that! 🐷
We are also ready to receive 100 bales of hay, we have now some good wood without rusty nails and we can now make a start with filling up our muddy paths with all the sand that we seperared.

After all this hard work we had an amazing vegan lunch from . Thank you sweet Sarita for doing this! 🌱
Seeing everyone having a good time, working hard together, laugh together and connecting with each other is what this day was about.

🇵🇹 O Dia do Voluntário que tivemos no passado domingo foi fantástico e muitas pessoas apareceram. Estamos muito gratos por toda a ajuda e conseguimos fazer tanto em conjunto. Não conseguiríamos fazer estas tarefas extra tão rapidamente sem a vossa ajuda! 🙏🏻

Os porcos vão ter uma cama seca e limpa e vão ficar muito contentes com isso! 🐷
Também estamos prontos para receber 100 fardos de feno, temos agora alguma madeira boa sem pregos ferrugentos e podemos agora começar a encher os nossos caminhos lamacentos com toda a areia que separámos.

Depois de todo este trabalho árduo, tivemos um almoço vegan fantástico da . Obrigada, querida Sarita, por fazeres isto! 🌱

Today is a really sad day! Cher, one of our friends, died suddenly . She was one of the first hens to be rescued. She wore a furious face all the time, but she was sweet and kind. Always ready to eat some nice treats. We will really miss her!

O Dia Aberto serviu muitos objectivos:

▫️Interagir e sensibilizar para os nossos residentes resgatados, as suas histórias, os horrores a que escaparam e as vidas que têm agora que são vistos e respeitados como indivíduos.
▫️Refletir sobre a forma como vemos os animais não humanos e como, em qualquer altura, podemos escolher a compaixão &
▫️Comer refeições deliciosas, saudáveis e à base de plantas! (Os ingredientes orgânicos e caseiros foram doados por .pt )

Obrigado ao por provar que tudo o que é feito com amor e intenção (e sem animais ou subprodutos animais) pode ser delicioso e nutritivo! Os nossos visitantes pediram segundas e até uma terceira porção graças aos vossos dotes culinários!

Obrigada, , por ter captado na câmara estas interacções tão ternas!

Obrigado aos voluntários que organizaram este evento e que contribuíram de formas grandes e pequenas (e todas as formas são grandes)!

The Open Day served many purposes:

▫️To interact with & raise awareness about our rescued residents, their stories, the horrors they escaped, & the lives they have now that they are seen & respected as individuals.
▫️To reflect on how we perceive non-human animals & how, at any point, we can choose compassion &
▫️To eat yummy, wholesome, plant-based meals! (The homegrown, organic ingredients were graciously donated by Sara & Raphaël)

Thank you, Sarita, for proving that anything made with love & intention (& without animals or animal byproducts) can be delicious & nutritious! Our visitors requested 2nd & even 3rd servings thanks to your culinary skills!

Quem pode doar 1€ esta quinta-feira?

Enquanto continuamos a dar à Santa os cuidados necessários, temos também de gerir as necessidades dos seus amigos resgatados.

Esta semana, pagámos 400 euros para comprar feno e palha, que alimentam os burros, as cabras e os porcos. Também usamos feno para criar uma cama quente e fofa para as galinhas. A palha e o feno que os animais não comem são espalhados à volta da área dos animais maiores para absorver a água e oferecer um solo mais macio para eles deambularem. O feno “sujo” que é recolhido com o seu cocó é armazenado num canto do santuário para ajudar a dar vida ao solo. TODO o feno é devorado ou reaproveitado!

Se cada um dos nossos seguidores doasse apenas 1€ hoje, teríamos 2.549€. O que sobrar, se sobrar, será destinado à renovação do celeiro onde vivem os burros, porcos e cabras, para que fiquem protegidos de chuvas fortes e inundações.

While we are still giving Holy round the clock care, we must also manage the needs of her rescued friends.

This week, we paid 400€ to buy hay and straw, which feed the donkeys, goats, & pigs. We also use hay to create a warm, fluffy bedding for the chickens. The straw & hay that the animals don’t eat is spread out around the larger animals’ area to absorb water and offer a softer ground for them to roam around on. “Dirty” hay that is collected with their feces is stored in one corner of the sanctuary to help bring life into the soil. ALL hay is either devoured or repurposed!

If every one of our followers donated just 1€ today, we would have 2,549€. Whatever’s left over, if any, will be allocated to the renovation of the barn where the donkeys, pigs, and goats live so that they are protected from heavy rains and flooding.

Na semana passada, resgatámos a Holy, que foi atacada por cães e deixada a morrer. Foi-lhe diagnosticada febre da carraça e peritonite, recebeu 4 visitas ao veterinário e tomou antibióticos e medicamentos anti-pulgas e carraças. Para medidas preventivas, também administramos medicamentos anti-pulgas e carraças a todos os outros animais resgatados.

A Holy tem recebido cuidados permanentes da nossa equipa desde que foi resgatada, e não tínhamos a certeza de que iria sobreviver. Ela é doce, afectuosa, determinada e, acima de tudo, uma sobrevivente. Todos os dias, testemunhamos a vontade de viver da Holy!

Já gastámos mais de 300€, e isto sem contar com as necessidades de rotina, como comida, feno e combustível. Na semana passada, 5% dos nossos seguidores doaram 132€ e estamos muito gratos! Se cada um dos nossos seguidores doasse apenas 1€ hoje, teríamos 2.534€.

Last week, we rescued Holy, who was attacked by dogs & left to die. She was diagnosed with tick fever & peritonitis, received 4 vet visits, & took antibiotics, anti-flea & tick meds. For preventative measures, we’ve also administered anti-flea & tick meds to the other rescued animals.

Holy has received round the clock care from our team since her rescue, & we weren’t sure if she’d make it. She’s sweet, affectionate, determined &, most importantly, a survivor. Every day, we witness Holy’s will to live!

We’ve spent over 300€ & this doesn’t include routine necessities like food, hay, & gas. Last week, 5% of our followers donated 132€ & we’re so grateful! If every one of our followers donated just 1€ today, we’d have 2,534€.

This would cover outstanding vet bills for Holy & the others, & also cat & dog food, straw & hay, corn for the chickens & gas for the van!

🇬🇧 This is not how we wanted to introduce you to this sweetheart. This is Holy. We rescued her last Monday. She was attacked by dogs and left to die, arriving with thousands of ticks. She's been fighting for her life for a week, and we're with her. She declined yesterday, with a high temperature and anaemia. We were not sure if she would make it through the night. But she did! She's still quite weak and far from recovered.

We share her story, even though it is not a happy ending yet, because some people believe that "small family farms" are more ethical and better than intensive farms; however, this and many of our residents' stories prove the opposite: there is no ethical farming regardless of size.The only option is Animal Liberation! They were not created for us; they are individuals with the right to live, form a family, express their joy and love, and be free!
Holy has been so neglected that it hurts to look at her. Please send good healing energy to Holy. We’ll keep you posted.
And please consider going vegan for the animals!
🇵🇹 Não é assim que vos queremos apresentar a esta querida. Isto é sagrado. Resgatámo-la na segunda-feira passada. Ela foi atacada por cães e deixada a morrer, chegando com milhares de carraças. Está a lutar pela vida há uma semana, e nós estamos com ela. Ontem, ela entrou em declínio, com febre alta e anemia. Não sabíamos se passaria desta noite. Mas conseguiu! Ainda está bastante fraca e longe de estar recuperada.

Partilhamos a sua história, apesar de ainda não ter um final feliz, porque algumas pessoas acreditam que as "pequenas explorações familiares" são mais éticas e melhores do que as explorações intensivas; no entanto, esta e muitas das histórias dos nossos residentes provam o contrário: não existe uma agricultura ética, independentemente do tamanho. Eles não foram criados para nós; são indivíduos com o direito de viver, formar uma família, expressar a sua alegria e amor, e ser livres!
A Holy tem sido tão negligenciada que até dói olhar para ela. Por favor, envie boas energias de cura para a Holy. Manter-vos-emos informados.
