We see many new faces here, and we’re so happy you found your way to us. 💚
So we want to share where everything began and who we are.
This sanctuary was born in 2018, when Isabel rescued Kaju and his family.
She cared for them with love, patience, and the kind of courage that quietly changes lives.
From that first act of care, O Projeto Riza was born.
Soon after, Daniela joined and became one of the pillars of the sanctuary.
From that same spirit, she created Projeto Guarda Rios, a school where children can grow up learning compassion and respect for all beings.
In 2023, Isabel passed the sanctuary on, and Chiara, from Italy, took responsibility for the daily life of the sanctuary, making sure every animal, every detail, and every need was cared for.
Over the years, many volunteers from all over the world have walked this path with us.
And one of them, Sharna, from the Netherlands, chose to stay forever.
Together, with the help of so many hands and hearts, we have become an intentional sanctuary, built on care, responsibility, and shared values.
Now, we are preparing for the next chapter:
a new land, more space, and deeper care for all the animals who call this place home.
Today, O Projeto Riza becomes Riza Animal Sanctuary.
The roots remain the same: the love that saved the first lives, and the care that continues every single day.
