PUBLIC ART IN LISBON by @fidelevora 🏙️
The Underdogs Public Art Programme takes in a new mural by Fidel Évora, an artist born in the Cape Verdean city of Praia, and raised in Barreiro, Portugal.
This work, on view at Cais do Sodré, draws upon a poem by Francisco Xavier da Cruz: the Cape Verdean musician also known as B.Leza. Words from “Lua nua Testemunha” are superimposed on the warm, safe gaze of a woman, in blue and yellow tint: the moon bearing witness to a life of misfortune and longing.

📸 Did you know that Alfredo Cunha’s “Viva a Liberdade” exhibition at @underdogs_gallery inspired a special photo book?
The cover artwork for “25 de Abril de 1974 – Quinta-feira”, printed in acryllic, was designed by Alexandre Farto aka @vhils. Inside the book, you can find 4 risographs by the visual artist, depicting the April 25th revolution and more.
Cunha’s historic documents reveal the city as a place of protest and freedom of expression. An approach in harmony with Vhils’ outlook on the urban world, in perpetual movement and charged with social significance.

@underdogs_gallery is proud to welcome @simonberger.art for his first solo show in Portugal, “Monuments”.
On November 15, it will be the opening and Simon Berger will be present for a unique live performance, resulting in the creation of an artist’s proof, and in the same day, another limited edition by the Swiss artist will be available on the Underdogs online shop.
At “Monuments”, Berger, who once dreamed of becoming an architect, honors the pioneers who shaped his imagination. From November 15 to December 28, the exhibition will feature 16 unique artworks of iconic architects, in his unmistakable technique of sandblasted glass.

Underdogs in Brazil with @wastedrita, in a red neon glow 🇧🇷 Last month, @underdogs_gallery was thrilled to take the Porto-born artist to @mapa.festival in Minas Gerais.
“Nem todos os morros vão dar ao céu” is Wasted Rita’s first artwork in Portuguese, in tribute to the mining community of Itabira. Known for her morsels of sarcastic wisdom, the illustrator flips her approach.
This is an earnest tribute to resilience: an artwork fueled by the collective strength of a people working through uphill terrain, coming out the other side.
