Today has been bitter sweet
The bitter
We say good bye to a little kitten named Ivy who had been abandoned at a colony in East Algarve. A wonderful rescue angel brought her to us to be a playmate for Mushy yesterday.
Ivy was booked into our main vet today at 10.30 to have Flev and FHiv tests. Unfortunately while we were dropping cats for sterilsation in Loule to then go to her appointment near Messines Ivy collapsed so we sought help straight away with Dra Luis at 9am. By 11.30am we had to make the decision to let her go when we were advised she had Panleukopenia (Parvo virus in cats) and showing signs of neurological decline and unlikely to survive 💔
There were no symptoms beforehand only after we dropped her at the vets 😢 so we were shocked how quickly this happened. No diarah no lethagy. Ivy was very underweight but we were confident we could get her well when we met her yesterday.
Normally our cross contamination control is excellent we were advised by a third party she had a vet check beforehand so our bad we let our guard down
So we now we have a small risk of cross contamination to our 6 resident kittens 😥

Bless you Ivy and all that tried to give you a better life, Rip 💔💔💔
We also learnt today that Foxy and Blanco two pets that belong to two of our supporters who are also dear friends that we have grown to love left us today 😢😢Rip both beautiful liitle souls now with angel wings ♥️

The sweet
Today this little kitten taken from the street for sterilsation Tuesday is now named Mary and was adopted by Marcia ❤️ so Good things happen 🙏🙏

We also sterilsed 7 cats so 11 total this week from Santa Margarida.
One cat had his Tooth removed as it was rotten.

2 sterilsations were gifted by Ella Irie Frost and her Mum ❤️Thank you from our hearts for Changing their lives 🙏🙏❤️

Bella ❤️
Bella went to have xrays today. She was very good. Dra Bruno has reccomened calcium supplement to help build up the bone Unfortunately he has said Bella has a damaged ligament which is causing pain when she puts weight on the leg. Suggested another xray in January to see how the bone is healing . Until then we will try a support and see if that helps her. Huge thanks to Leanne for Caring for her so well and transporting Bella for her appointment 🙏🙏🥰

Paka lookalike with his battle wounds 😥
This is why we trap, test and castrate visiting males at our colonies
Males travel several kilometers for females they fight. May spread diseses, and could be killed by dogs, cars or poisening.
Once castrated they have no desire to travel reducing any suffering to them or others.
PKA has been under our care 4 years. He was castrated at 6 months and tested negative for Felv & Fhiv as all ours are.
He is a beautiful cat still quite feral but happy to pose so I can check his wound as he won't let me touch it 🥰
