Fanico's eyes are ok. They work perfectly. His eyesight problem comes from his nervous system. The eyes send the information to the brain but the brain sometimes doesn't process it properly. That's why his pupils are always dilated, because his brain thinks there's something wrong with his vision and is trying to compensate for that.

What triggers the episodes of blindness/partial blindness, we don't know but it can be anything from focus, anxiety, stimuli, etc.

It most likely is congenital and won't change over time. Might have happened while in the womb. He doesn't have seizures or balance issues, so it's not cause for concern.
The vet said to just keep an eye on him and if any other symptoms occur, to get him checked, but so far he's a big, healthy boy, very well behaved 🥰

This is good news, as long as it doesn't get worse, I'm happy. He seems happy and there's no discomfort.

Bufas cried a lot while Fanico was away 😢 they're happily asleep now ❤️

Fanico is at the vet. The Monday appointment was postponed and we're here now 🤗 fingers crossed it's nothing serious!
He's such a well behaved little boy ❤️

On Monday I'm taking Fanico to the vet, to see an ophthalmologist.
He is only partially blind and I'm not sure if it's an occasional loss of sight or just bad eyesight in general. Sometimes he is able to see the red laser dot, other times he isn't.
The last diagnosis we got was blindness but clearly that's not accurate.

I was able to photograph his pupils and there's definitely something out of the ordinary there.

Shrimp, chimken or cat?

I'd also like to introduce everyone to Fanico's sister. She's this gorgeous grey kitten who also sleeps in the weirdest positions.
Sandra Teixeira Arsénio adopted his sister (I forgot her name, sorry 🥹😅) and brought Fanico to my house (he wasn't easy to catch 😂). Please share more photos with us 🥰

Ok so, a more positive post this time.

The other day I looked for Bufas and Fanico like crazy, they were nowhere to be found.

I was in a panic! I'm so careful about not leaving doors or windows open.

I eventually found them... In the bathroom.

It's been a year since I lost Bast. Those of you who have been here from the beginning know about it and how it happened.
I was so worried about Nix at the time, I didn't give her the love she deserved during her last days. I should have visited more and hugged her more. I was afraid that would interfere with her treatment, plus it killed me to see her sick.

She was my first cat and the one who turned me into a cat person. Such a loving, playful and curious creature. I hope she's in a better place now.

I miss you my friend. You'll always have a special place in my heart.

Also, Nix has been spending most of her time with these two. Mostly observing and babysitting. She's no longer aggressive, just cautious and very curious. I'm so happy.

I tried uploading this earlier but it didn't work.

Fanico is so gentle. He doesn't use his claws, unlike Bufas. All I can feel is him challenging me to play with him, using his velvety paws.

Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a great week.

So, since I adopted Fanico, I noticed there was something strange about him. His eyes were always very black because his pupils were always dilated.
During the day when the sun was shining outside and the room was bright, he still had his pupils dilated. I thought that was odd.
He had his check-up as you know, and the vet said everything was fine, he is a healthy kitten.
I still suspected there was something wrong but he plays and moves like every other cat.
He did jump off the examination table at the vet which is quite high for him and he didn't seem to care.

Today I got him an appointment at the hospital Nix stayed at last year. The vets there are amazing and I trust them 100%.

It took a few seconds for the vet to figure out what was wrong with him.

Fanico is blind.

Fortunately he is amazing at moving around using his other senses. Bufas is a sort of guide for him and other than being a quiet and scared cat, he's fine.

Sorry for not posting for a while. This week, a year after Nix was ill, she stated showing the same symptoms. I immediately rushed her to the vet to try and prevent it this time. Fortunately she is 100% ok. This time I didn't let her go a day without food, I made sure that even with an upset stomach, she ate something. I'm not letting her get hepatic lipidosis again. I'm sure it was caused by flea medicine. I applied a liquid capsule to the back of her neck and 2 days later, sure enough, there was vomiting and lack of appetite. I now know for certain that was the cause last year. No vet believed me and I lost Bast because I had no idea something like that could happen. All the cats are fine, no need to worry and soon I'll shower everyone with cute photos. The kittens are adorable 🥺🥺🥺 they hug each other when they sleep! ♥️ Here's a cute video to end this post with positive vibes
