I've recently been reminded about the number of years I have been in Doha.
I started Laws for Paws Qatar when I arrived from South Africa, in 2006. An extension of the branch my ex husband and I had back home.
Over the years I have worked with 100s of human/canine companions mostly successfully others, for whatever reason, less so. I am human and even I fail to help sometimes.
Another downside of being in this business for so long is that I am starting to bare witness to the passing of my canine clients who have wondered into old age.
This totally hit home for me this week when I lost my own old lady. Here is a short eulogy to a girl named Lycan:
On a summer's day back in 2007 a little white husky puppy came into my life. She was sweet and playful as well as very independent. Right from the beginning this little girl knew who was boss and it sure as hell wasn't me. She wasn't meant to stay. She was meant to be a short term foster dog until a permanent place was found. Today, a month short of her 15th birthday, she finally left for her forever home.
My beautiful Lycan you have left a hole in my heart. I will miss your quirky little "away with the fairies" head tilt and your very selective cuddles, (unless of course there was food on offer). You will be remembered always.
RIP my gorgeous girl! Run free over Rainbow Bridge. Korin, Kendra, Molly, PeeWee and Giggle will be there waiting for you.
