Laws for Paws Qatar is run by Lucielle Burger who has more than 20 years experience in all aspects of the dog world. From dog training, show dogs, working trials and Shutzhund to rescuing and rehabilitiating animals with the Qatar Animal Welfare Society, Lucielle has experience working with many different breeds and temperaments. Lucielle DOES NOT aspire to be a "Dog Whisperer" or "Animal Behaviou

rist", but assisting families with basic dog obedience and working abilities brings her much pleasure. The obvious joy of a family member when their dog masters the words "sit/stay/down" or even "find" is what drives Lucielle to want to help bring out a dog's natural working personality. Puppy Socialising and Handling classes cover the following aspects:

How to introduce your puppy to visitors
How the "pack system" works
Basic games and fun items to keep puppy occupied
Puppy care
Puppy discipline
Basic Obedience

Basic Obedience and Handling classes cover the following disciplines:

Basic Heel Work
Send Aways
Basic Agility
Recalls
Scent Pads
Basic Hand Signals/Silent Training

All classes include socialising your dog with other canines and humans. Please inform the trainer of any issues your dog may have with these situations, so it can be worked through. Unfortunately, due to venue restrictions, a number of different venues maybe used during the training course. Laws for Paws Qatar apologises for any inconvenience caused while we try to find a permanent home for our dog training school. Please keep an eye on our page to see the other services that Laws for Paws Qatar will be offering shortly. Lucielle's Quote: "The problem exists at the end of the lead... Not the dogs end!"

I've recently been reminded about the number of years I have been in Doha.

I started Laws for Paws Qatar when I arrived from South Africa, in 2006. An extension of the branch my ex husband and I had back home.

Over the years I have worked with 100s of human/canine companions mostly successfully others, for whatever reason, less so. I am human and even I fail to help sometimes.

Another downside of being in this business for so long is that I am starting to bare witness to the passing of my canine clients who have wondered into old age.

This totally hit home for me this week when I lost my own old lady. Here is a short eulogy to a girl named Lycan:

On a summer's day back in 2007 a little white husky puppy came into my life. She was sweet and playful as well as very independent. Right from the beginning this little girl knew who was boss and it sure as hell wasn't me. She wasn't meant to stay. She was meant to be a short term foster dog until a permanent place was found. Today, a month short of her 15th birthday, she finally left for her forever home.

My beautiful Lycan you have left a hole in my heart. I will miss your quirky little "away with the fairies" head tilt and your very selective cuddles, (unless of course there was food on offer). You will be remembered always.

RIP my gorgeous girl! Run free over Rainbow Bridge. Korin, Kendra, Molly, PeeWee and Giggle will be there waiting for you.

An Open Letter to the Community..

We would like to start by thanking all of our absolutely amazing supporters who have stood by us over the years and enabled us collectively to help tens of thousands of animals. We could not have achieved anything that we have done without you all.

Despite the support from our amazing rescue community, we have reached our saturation point. We are simply overwhelmed with the sheer number of animals who need our help.

Every single week we receive literally hundreds of requests for help. Orphaned kittens. Dogs hit by cars. Abandoned pets. Starving strays. Reports of abuse. We have reached the point where we genuinely no longer know what to say in response.

We are absolutely passionate about animal welfare and rescuing those that need us. But please, please remember that although we willingly dedicate all our free time and energy, we are also just volunteers, trying our best. We make mistakes, we forget to return calls and we are often running late but it’s not because we don’t care, it’s because we care too much.

The hardest decisions we all have to make every single day are which animals to help. We can’t help them all, as much as we would give anything to be able to. When one lucky animal leaves our care we have to choose which animal to save next. It’s these decisions that keep us up at night. When we try to explain that we aren’t in a position to offer help at the moment, it’s not because we don’t want to, it’s just that we physically can’t right now.

We wouldn’t stop doing what we do for anything in the world but we do beg and plead that anyone contacting us - please, please have a thought for how tough it is for us too. We are doing our best.

We understand all your situations and you want to keep your rescue safe. We do too. But please also remember that turning up uninvited or abandoning an animal at our doorsteps causes another set of issues. We all operate emergency waiting lists. If we can’t take them in, please don’t post all over social media that the rescuers won’t help. We really want to, we just can’t.

We may not be able to offer an immediate solution but we will always do our best to guide, advise and offer support. Rescuing an animal is more than just dropping them on a rescuer or shelter. It sometimes literally takes years to find an animal their perfect forever home.

There are no registered animal welfare organisations or official funding opportunities in Qatar yet. Those that exist are volunteer run, we can only achieve what we do thanks to you all.

Over the next few weeks we will be launching a coordinated campaign to raise awareness of the issues animals in Qatar face, give advice on what to do if you find an animal and how you can help the rescue community as a whole. We hope that together, we can all work towards finding long-term, humane solutions to the stray and abandoned animal crisis we are currently facing. And one day, maybe rescuers won’t be needed at all. Wouldn’t that be an amazing day?

We are deeply humbled and grateful for all the support we get from our friends and apologise for not being able to do more,

While I do not condone this, one of my clients needs to find Max a new forever home as it is in Max's best interests.

This is Max. He is 12 months old. Max is a good boy with a shy personality when you first meet him. Max is good with children but will need some help with meeting any cats that may be part of his new forever home. Max is fully vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Only genuine enquiries will be entertained via DM. Responses to those who send a 100 word presis giving us a short intro to your family and why Max will be happy with you.
