Meet Pinky, a 12-year-old Maltese spayed female dog who recently visited our clinic. Pinky's concerned owner brought her in on the 14th of March, 2024, with a complaint of constipation that had persisted for more than three days. But don't worry, Pinky's story has a happy ending!

During the examination, our dedicated Dra. Chandi found that Pinky had a history of urolith, which caused blood in her urine since January. Despite this, Pinky's appetite and drinking habits were normal, indicating a healthy appetite. Additionally, Pinky remained active and alert throughout the examination, making us hopeful for her recovery.

Further tests revealed an interesting finding. Pinky had a fever of 40 degrees Celsius and abdominal pain. However, her cardiopulmonary auscultation came back normal, easing our concerns about her heart and lungs. Complete blood tests and blood chemistry results were within the normal range, providing further reassurance.

A urine analysis showed a high urinary pH and the presence of red blood cells (RBCs), giving us valuable clues to Pinky's condition. To investigate further, we performed an X-ray, which unveiled a single large cystolith blocking Pinky's urethral opening. This cystolith was also pressing on her descending colon, causing her discomfort and difficulty in defecation.

To help Pinky find relief, we recommended cystotomy surgery to remove the cystolith. We explained to Pinky's owner that this was the only treatment option, despite the risks involved due to Pinky's geriatric condition. With the owner's consent, we proceeded with the surgery, fully committed to Pinky's well-being.

We are thrilled to inform you that the surgery was a success! Pinky's cystolith was successfully removed, and she recovered smoothly from anesthesia. We couldn't be happier with her progress.

To gain a deeper understanding of Pinky's condition, we sent the cystolith to the renowned Minnesota Urolith Center for chemistry analysis. This analysis revealed that the cystolith formation in Pinky's urinary tract was caused by a combination of factors. These included infectious bacteria, as well as her previous diet high in phosphorus and magnesium. Inherent factors also played a role in this unique case.

Pinky's remarkable recovery serves as a reminder of the importance of regular check-ups and a balanced diet for our furry friends. We are grateful to Pinky's owner for trusting us with her care and for their commitment to Pinky's well-being.

We hope Pinky's story inspires you to prioritize your pet's health and seek professional care when needed. Our dedicated team is here for you and your beloved pets, ready to provide the highest quality of veterinary care.

Stay tuned for more heartwarming stories and valuable pet care tips from our us. Remember, together, we can ensure a healthy and happy life for our furry family members!

To address the nutrition needs of cats and dogs, it’s important to consider their unique dietary requirements:

1. Dogs:
- Dogs are omnivores, which means they can consume a variety of food sources.
- They require a balanced diet consisting of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals.
- Dogs need high-quality animal-based protein, such as meat, poultry, or fish.
- Carbohydrates can be sourced from grains or vegetables.
- Fats provide energy and should come from healthy sources, such as fish oil or vegetable oil.
- Dogs also require essential vitamins and minerals for overall health.
- It’s advisable to consult a veterinarian to ensure the specific dietary needs of your dog based on age, size, breed, and any specific health concerns.

2. Cats:
- Cats are obligate carnivores, which means they require a diet primarily consisting of meat.
- They have higher protein requirements than dogs and rely on animal-based protein.
- Cats also require certain amino acids, such as taurine, which is abundant in meat.
- Fats are important for a cat’s diet and provide energy and essential fatty acids.
- Cats need certain vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus.
- Unlike dogs, cats have limited ability to convert plant-based nutrients into usable forms; therefore, they require specific nutrition formulated for cats.
- It’s crucial to consult a veterinarian to ensure that your cat’s diet meets its individual nutritional needs.

Remember that every pet is unique, and factors like breed, age, size, activity level, and any specific health conditions should be considered when determining their dietary requirements. Always consult with a veterinarian to develop a balanced and appropriate nutrition plan for your pet.

Vaccines are an essential part of preventive healthcare for both dogs and cats. They work by stimulating the immune system to create protective antibodies against various infectious diseases. Vaccination not only helps to protect the individual animal but also plays an essential role in controlling and eradicating infectious diseases in the population.

In dogs, some of the most important vaccines include those for:

- Canine distemper virus
- Canine parvovirus
- Canine adenovirus
- Canine parainfluenza virus
- Rabies

In cats, the core vaccines include those for:

- Feline panleukopenia virus
- Feline herpesvirus
- Feline calicivirus
- Rabies

Vaccination is particularly important for puppies and kittens, whose immune systems are not yet fully developed and are therefore more susceptible to infections. By vaccinating early in life and following up with booster vaccinations, pet owners can help ensure their pets are protected against serious and potentially life-threatening diseases.

It's important to note that not all dogs and cats require the same vaccines, and vaccination protocols may vary depending on factors such as age, lifestyle, and geographic location. Your veterinarian can help determine the appropriate vaccines for your pet based on their individual needs.

Fifa just started! ⚽️
Don't forget to keep our fur babies safe and stress-free. Just as in humans, all cats have some degree of normal fear when they hear loud, sudden, or strange noises. It's part of our survival instinct. Some cats, however, are especially sensitive to noise or display exaggerated responses to certain sounds. Here's a tip that will help your feline buddies with loud noises. 😊
