We are a small, family-based Scottish Fold breeder living in Bucharest. We are Turkish, speak English fluently, and speak some Romanian. We breed cats professionally since 2015 and have owned a cat for a long time. It is both a hobby and a passion to breed high standard, pure-bred cats for people who appreciate the value of a good kitten and for breeder friends all over the world. It is not a business. It is a lot of hard work and pure pleasure. Well, at least it is sometimes :)
We chose this breed because of its very friendly nature to people and other pets at home. Scottish Fold or Highland Fold ( the name of the long hair) sheds very little hair except two weeks at the beginning of Fall and Spring. Contrary to common understanding, the long hair sheds less hair than short hair. Also, the cat allergy is not to the cat hair but to a protein in the saliva and in the skin of the cat. So if you buy a hairless cat such as Devon Rex, you will be more exposed to the allergens. Cats need 15 to 30-minute attention. Long-hairs should be combed 2 or 3 minutes every day.
Cats are happy alone. Just like any other cat, Scottish Folds may or may not get along with another cat. The outcome usually depends on the character of both cats. They get along really well with dogs though!
We have a website that contains some more information on how to acquire a kitten from us. We usually have a waiting list and we highly recommend registering on the list. To be included in the list, please fill out the form: https://forms.gle/94naPAyczASMtpkt5
You can find out more information about our cattery on our website.

ETHICAL BREEDING AND OUR STANDARDS
We attend cat shows to show our cats to judges and get feedback from the judges about the breed standards we have achieved. Our cats are the recipients of many awards, including Best in Show or Best of Best 1, which are extremely hard to obtain, as known by all breeders.
We feed our cats with natural food or in other words with B.A.R.F It is 10 times better than any commercial brand. You can try or order it from the site http://barfpentrupisici.com/.
We do not mass produce our cats. They are living things and need to rest reasonable time between births. Therefore; it is highly unlikely to get a kitten from us when you ask for one unless you are very lucky!
We reserve the right to refuse to offer a kitten to people who do not convince us to be a good owner of our children.
WHAT DO WE DO TO ENSURE THE HEALTHINESS OF OUR CATS AND KITTENS?
Just like any other breed, the Scottish Fold has its breed-specific genetic sickness namely Scottish Fold Osteochondrodysplasia (SFOCD or OCD). OCD is an inheritable disorder characterized by skeletal deformities such as short, thick, and inflexible tails and shortened splayed feet that could appear in fold cats. The disease does not affect straight-eared cats. You can find more information on the Internet about the disease. To prevent the symptoms of the disease from appearing in our fold kittens, we have tested our straight cats at the university lab of UCL-Davis USA. The test is to ensure that they are N/N negative on the SF ( fold) gene. We are proud to be the only cattery in Romania doing the genetic fold test and among the very few in the world. We should also mention that we never had an adult cat or a kitten with symptomatic OCD so far.
We also test our cats for Polycystic Kidney Disease or PKD1. It is an inherited condition in cats that causes multiple cysts (pockets of fluid) to form in the kidneys. These cysts are present from birth. Our adult cats do not carry the PKD1 gene and thus their kittens will not die from that disease.
Another important test we do is Feline Coronavirus a/b to prevent FIP. Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral disease of cats caused by certain strains of a virus called the feline coronavirus. To our knowledge, coronaviruses cannot be passed from infected cats to humans.
You can see the test results here:

In any case, if a kitten dies or becomes sick because of our breeding program, we take full responsibility. Within 15 days after the sale, if the kitten is sick, please take him/her to our vet asap and we will pay the bill. If you take the kitten to another vet, you will pay the bill. If the kitten dies for a reason related to the breeding program, we either fully refund your money or offer another kitten.
CASTRATION OR STERILIZATION
We castrate or sterilize our kittens before they go to their home. We do not want our cats to be bred by people who have no idea about breeding. Cat breeding is no fun! It is actually a lot of responsibility only known by ethical breeders. If the kitten is not ready to be operated at 12 weeks, he or she may stay longer with us. Under no circumstances, a kitten can leave us before 12 weeks. Also, it is very stupid and inhumane to take a baby kitten when she is only 2 months old if you know what I mean.. They are still babies at that age and need to stay with their mom and siblings to complete their normal life cycle. Only unethical, and money-driven, back-yard breeders or middle-men ( simsar) do that. Please do not support those people by buying a kitten from them as this way you encourage them to violate animal rights more! There are enough registered ethical breeders in Romania to buy a kitten with papers and health assurances.
ACCOMMODATION IN THEIR NEW HOME
After you take your kitten home, we keep in touch to make sure the accommodation to the new environment is as smooth as possible. We also encourage you to communicate with us and send new photos of our children every once in a while.
SOME SUGGESTIONS
When it comes to own a kitten, it is a very bad idea to rush! Please have some patience and ensure that you acquire a healthy and friendly kitten who will become a true member of your family for a very long time; roughly 15 years ... It is worth spending a few bucks more to purchase a healthy kitten rather than rolling the dice and, just like many people end up, getting stuck with a sick or aggressive kitten who would bring only unhappiness to you. The kitten will be a part of your life and your family, share your life with your children, and bring joy for all members. If he/she is not worth the price of a new phone, adopt one from someone you can trust.
After you take your kitten home, we kindly expect you to write an honest recommendation on this page about your experience with us.
All the best;
Scottish Fold Romania Family
