During the 2nd-3rd century there used to be a settlement of the free Dacians who had connections with the Romans. In 1388, Suceava is mentioned as the capital city of Moldavia. Starting with the times of Petru I (circa 1375 - 1391), the fortress became the main royal court of the Moldavian principalities and the royal palace was transferred to Iasi. The symbol of the city of Suceava is a shield on a blue background, a red fortress with ramparts and seven towers, with black windows, placed on a green plain; in front of is St George on a silver horse spearing a golden dragon. The shield is protected with a mural silver crown with five turrets out of which the Moldavian symbol is highlighted - the head of an ox with a star between its horns. St George used to the considered the protector of christianity, in the feudal and modern ages.
