On the 1st of may the first seeds have been planted, after 20 days the first leaf sayed hi π±
This is being such a fascinating process, so far propagating was exciting but growing your own rare plants from seeds took it to another level π€..
The best part about our propagation stands is that you get to see every bit of the growing process while having a nice decor piece. π€
It starts as a stem cutting with a node and leaf that slowly starts to grow roots and also new growing points. π±
It is important to keep the node in water because from there is where your new plant will develop.
While being in the stand you will have an entire show of roots and leaves forming.

We always have in mind what happens to our packages so we try to keep them as simple as possible, we thought of stamping our logo but decided not to so you can reuse the box once your plant is potted and keep our nice card π±.

The next 3 posts will be about the reality of getting new plants, they have the purpose to show you what really happens behind gorgeous instagram plant pictures and to let you know you are not alone in the yellow leaves side. π
As you already know 2 weeks ago we got a 10+ years old large form monstera from an old lady, the plant was living in a buildings hallway without the best care.
She got to the plant room safe and sound and was looking very well but this was a masive change for her:
- From a hallway with probably 35% humitidy to a room full of aroids with 50-60% humidity.
- From a pot with rock hard soil to a ceramic pot with a good soil mix so the roots can breath and move.
- From a small space with not much light to a big space facing a South-West window.
- From leaves full of dust and pests to a deep clean and constant check.
Even if now she is in the "ideal space" the changes were as big as her and the good thing is that we were expecting it because they are living beings too, they get used to a place just like us and once they move ofc they need time to adapt, are we sad about it? OFC WE ARE βΉ Because we are doing our best and we what her to thrive but we see this as a learning opportunity that we now have a place where it can be shared with others. π±π

When we first saw the plant the fact that the old lady used to cut her aerial roots had as shocked and sad.
By cutting the aerial roots the plant focused her energy on growing new leaves very fast and this made her grow tall and left her with a tiny stem that can't support her weight. βΉ
The stem and what is left of the aerial roots are wood like so there is no change of getting them to grow again. The difference in stem diameter from the base to the top is huge but somehow she survived.
When we moved her a lot of roots were broken because of how hard the soil was around them and from the start the ratio between roots and plant size was off. π
The solution for this problem is to start air layering where the stem has a good size and is greener but we couldn't do this right away because it would have shocked her even more.
By air layering basically new roots will form while it is still potted, when enough have grown the plant can be sectioned and repoted so the long naked stem you see can be removed. π±
Again, an opportunity to learn more things!!! Wish us luck, we need it π..

The past 2 weeks our monster lost 8 leaves, it was sad but also fascinating to watch such big leaves go yellow π
So far we are sure it is due to the moving shock and that is why we thing is important to show you even the sad side.
We all get plants from different places, greenhouses, stores, other people and we bring them into our homes with much love and care so when they don't do well we get upset and thing it's our fault, but it's not us, IT'S THEM π€£
They need time to adapt, overcome AND SURVIVE! Ofc there are moments when we do give them to much love and by love i mean water π or when they just don't fit our space, we can't give them what they need and for that i always recomend to know which plant you are getting and her care info!
But when it is just shipping stress or space change they basically need time! π
We are keeping both eyes her and making sure we are not doing something wrong ππ± ..

It was much fun to make a road trip just to pick up this beauty, she is huge and will slowly get her in better shape. π±
We are looking forward for this growing season, will be getting more big plants and calculating how the hell to shipp them π
Hopefully our plans will not fail and more people will get to see her in real live soon until then hope you enjoy some monstera spam π±..
First step after repoting the big monstera in a ceramic huge pot with the right soil was to clean every single leave because they were full of dust. π
After that came a second round of deep cleaning because i spotted some brown soft scale bugs (swipe for macro bug pics π). Those small suckers (literally) cause yellowing, stagnation and in big number can kill the plant, they sit mostly on steams, leaves front and back close to the veins. Because they are very well sticked to the plant i found that a tooth brush and neem oil based solution does the job.
Happy spring cleaning, put your glasses on and go check your plants π±π€..
Have been looking for a big monster for a long time and at the beginning of the year i finally found one a few hours away. π₯°
She was owned by and old lady and was placed on a small building hallway.
Took a first trip to see the condition she was in and to start planing the shipping process, first thing we saw was that she was MASIVE, 3 meters long with 24 x 1m leaves, she had grown tilted trying to get to the light source , about more than 1m of the base stem was super tiny with no leaves and the previous owner used to cut all her aerial roots. π±
Fast forward one month ... picked her up cause she is gorgeours and deserves some proper care. π€..

Love syngoniums as much as we love this .ceramics handmade pots, because they are easy to propagate, care and they grow very fast.

Hoya kerriis enjoy light and not much water, they are succulent like because they store water so it is important to not overwater them.
The crochet pot felt like the right match because they make them look even lovelier, just take it out if it and place the nursery pot in a glass of water, let her take in us much water as needed and then pop her back in her cozy spot βΊ - 35Ron each

Wanted to get this lovely hearts ready for valentines day but that was not possible hoefully you are still looking for a another π€ to have close.

Don't panic when you see yellow leaves, as i sayed in the previous post it can be a natural thing.
But how do we know if it isn't? π₯²
Well, if you see yellow leaves that are not the oldest ones or if they come in very fast and more leaves do that without any new ones coming in.
But why does it happen?
Usually yellowing happens because of to much water combined with not enought light, that can cause root rot or it can happen because of pests, lack of nutrients, in most cases we give them to much love aka water π€
How to fix it?
You can first look for pests on the leaves to see if that is the issue (also cut the yellow ones, help her out) then check the roots to see if they are healty, once you identify the problem you can start fixing it.
If you find pests, treat it asap, deep clean. If the roots have problems, repot, better soil, better pot, less water.
Or just text a plant friend for help π€£

Back to the plant winter talk. π±
Here you can see the same Alocasia zebrina slowly having part of the leaves turning yellow. Don't worry, she is thriving.
Alocasias as many other plants kill older leaves in order to have energy for the new ones but the more special thing about them is that during winter time they will kill more leaves in order to save energy and come back strong when the heat comes back π€ similar to working out during winter to be a snack in the summer, some hot girl s**t π€£ .
So if your Alocasia has only a few leaves these days (or non as i have heard) don't worry!!! Check the root, if they are fine let her be, give her some space and she will be back...like they all do π..
Since winter is coming again π lets have a plant talk.
In the next posts you will see an Alocasia zebrina and how she adapts to the cold weather, here we have a normal green leaf (with a bit of dust opsies π)
We have been dealing with it for awhile and we hoped that the sun will shine bright (like a diamond) again... well that is not happening soon so it is important that we still water our plants less, only when needed and we give them the most light possible by having them staying closer to the window or using grow lights.
Don't worry if you don't have grow lights, they will survive but you may see more dead leaves and not so happy plants. ..
We are not big on cactuses around here but this one is the last one standing on the personal collection.
But since their shape is so minimal and fun we decided to match them with some handpainted pots for some extra plant appeal π (swipe for a pot turn).

It is a joy to find awesome people to work with that can bring to life your ideas and make them unique.

We have been working for a few months on something new. We knew it had to be handmade and a decor piece, after many shapes and tries we got there.
The huggable leaf is here π± a minimal handmade pillow that you can keep on your couch and snuggle from time to time.

Besides monsteras and sansevierias y'all should have a ficus ... or 3 ahahaha, but for real we all have that family member that has on huge ficus well that could be you. Start small and maybe with a bit more special type of ficus.
They have found new homes already but the picture is too good not to share..

For small cuts delivered locally - a wet tissue paper wraped in paper tape that will stay moist for many hours.
For bigger cuts delivered all over the country - clay pebbles in a paper cup secured with paper tape that will keep the roots wet for days.
