KEITH – THE IRISH DOG TRAINER WITH A GLOBAL REPUTATION
Keith Mathews aka ‘The Dog Guru’ is Ireland’s most famous dog trainer, gun dog trainer and canine behaviourist. A hugely successful writer and broadcaster of the internationally acclaimed “Calmness Leads To Reward” and “Retriever Training – Guru Style” dog training programmes which have global sales in 6 continents. Keith has also starred in his own hit dog training television series ‘Good Dog Bad Dog’, which aired on national television. It was through this TV show that the producers give him the name ‘The Dog Guru’.
Keith has been training dogs professionally for over 25 years and has taught dog training workshops all over the world. A former owner and Shoot Captain at ‘Glennoo Game Sports’ which is a commercial shoot based in Ireland Keith has been a life- long hunter and works his gundogs regularly on different terrains throughout the hunting season in Ireland.
Keith’s is the breeder of the Copperbirch Labrador line which is Irelands most successful breeding kennel with over 100 FT Champions, FT Winners & Award Winners having been bred directly from his lines over the last 10 years.
It was Keith’s passion for training his own ‘Copperbirch’ Labradors and his love for hunting and field sports that prompted him to get into the more competitive side of gun dog training and handling. He has been successful in making up several Labradors to become Field Trial Champions. As well as this he has won the most prestigious title on the Irish Field Trial calendar the “Irish Kennel Clubs Retriever of the Year” and his FTCH Beau was declared “National Supreme Champion”.
Keith is an International ‘FCI’ – ‘A’ – Panel field trial judge for retrievers with the Irish Kennel Club. He has judged field trials and working tests in many countries around the world. Keith knows exactly what is required to prepare dogs for the highest level of competition and is able to pass on this knowledge to those who attend his workshops.
HELENA
Helena has been a professional dog trainer and behaviourist for over 15 years, originally from Stockholm in Sweden.
Helena is a qualified ‘Hundinstruktör´, (Dog Trainer) ‘Problemhundspsykolog’, (Dog Behaviourist) & ‘Service och Signalhunds Instruktör, ( Service & Therapy Dog Trainer) ‘Jägareförbundets Hundinstruktör III’ and ’SSRK’s Retrieverinstruktör’. (Hunting & Retriever Trainer).
For four years Helena worked as a Therapy Dog Instructor, Trainer and Handler with the Labradoodle Livia in Uppsala Akademiska Barnsjukhus a Swedish Childrens Hospital as part of the pilot scheme ‘Childrens Experiences of Animal Assisted Therapy’.
Helena and Livia appeared many times in Swedish media as well on the televised film ‘Livia ett viktigt hundliv’ which highlighted the work and benefits of the highly successful project.
Like Keith, Helena is passionate about hunting and retriever breeds. In the past Helena has worked trained and competed with Wachtelhundar (German Spaniels) was a past winner of the European young dog Wachtel Championship as well as being a board member and chairperson of the Mälardalen-Gotland region Wachtelhund Club a position which she held for 3 years.
Her first retriever was a golden but now she is currently training a Copperbirch Labrador. Helena has competed with several different ladradors over the last few years and has had numerous awards in field trials and working tests in Ireland
