Know this… Before getting a dog and during the life of your dog … 🐾🐕‍🦺🐕🦴

Know this… Before getting a dog and during the life of your dog … 🐾🐕‍🦺🐕🦴

If you are going to have a dog, you are going to have to make sacrifices. You cannot expect to have an animal that was designed to live primarily outside and bring it into your house and not have to make changes or adjustments. A dog is not an ornament, a commodity or a display. A dog is an animal. You are sharing your life with another species. This is life with a dog.

Your yard will not be pristine. The grass will get burned from their p*e. Holes will be dug, bushes shredded, mud will come in the house. You cannot ask them to not p*e in your house and then also try to control even their outside bathroom. Please see how unfair this is. This is life with a dog.

You house will need management. Your counters will need to be clear. Shoes will need to be put away. Laundry room blocked. Kids toys picked up. Some things will get destroyed anyway. This is life with a dog.

They will bark at noises. They will protect their territory. Sometimes fiercely. They will not welcome strange people into the home easily even if you “know them” because this is in their genetic DNA. They don’t understand family gatherings and they don’t always see things the way we do. They won’t love playing with every dog they meet. This is life with a dog.

They will need enrichment and work and productivity. They will need training that is kind and fair and consistent and then maintenance to maintain that training. They will need guidance and coaching and lots of reinforcement to help them perform unnatural behaviors against their natural phenotypes. This is life with a dog.

They will mature and change and modify in their likes, behaviors and preferences as they age. Their behaviors aren’t guaranteed. They are not robots and they can be mercurial as they grow into their own personalities. They are allowed to change their mind and shift naturally just as we do. They need to be seen for what and who they are, not what and who YOU want. This is life with a dog.

Life with a dog is not a human right. It is a privilege and a responsibility and an education. They are animals and should be treated and expected to behave as such. That doesn’t make them any less loved or family members and it doesn’t make them any less deserving of respect, in fact it makes them more so.

Enjoy your life with a dog, and help them enjoy life with a human.

Please take time to read and pass onto others. The more informed we are, the less likely we are to cause injury and unnecessary difficulties for the dogs around us…

Forcing your hand in front of a dog is not a nice greeting for the dog!!
🐕‍🦺🐾

🛇 Use your Manners! 🛇
The Sniff test - Stop doing that!
The sniff test - a badly engrained habit that society has been taught, without a clear understanding of what they're actually doing.

🚩When you reach out towards a dog, you are using body pressure AT them, giving them no time to assess whether you are safe & whether they require further investigation to pick up your information. You are forcing an interaction of a relationship that hasn't had time to develop. To some dogs, this is quite rude & the reason a lot of dogs snap at or bite people. This can cause alot of behavioral issues because of layered stress due to forced interactions.

🚩If they are on lead, they have no where to go if they are sensitive to spacial pressure, so can end up shutting down, shying away or snapping at your hand so you back off. This is an example of how a dog is now using pressure to turn off pressure & make you back off so they aren't so stressed.

🚩People think by offering your hand it can give the dog time to sniff to know you're friendly... they can sniff without being forced to sniff your hand.Their noses are far more superior than ours & they don't need close contact forced upon them to smell you.

🚩Some dogs might not want to know you. You have no relationship with them and that's perfectly fine. They aren't your dog so you don't need to touch them or steal pats for your own satisfaction.

🤔 If you are meeting a dog, what should you do?
⚠Ask the owner if you can interact with their dog. Not all people want strangers touching their dogs. Especially strangers who you are unlikely to see again.
⚠Stand up straight & relaxed, with your hands at your side.
⚠Ignore the dog & talk to the owner.
⚠Don't stare at the dog & don't try to force an interaction by going in for a pat. If the dog wants to know you, it will come up to you & sniff around. Usually they will move away & then come back for a second sniffathon. Some dogs will bunt your hands & wag their tails, which are good signs that you're likely an accepted new friend. Give them a few slow pats down their back (NOT THEIR HEAD) & then stop. Is the dog happy? Has it accepted your interaction? This will determine whether you can give it more pats.

🐶This is a more stress free option for dogs & a reason why in consultations we can develop a good level of trust, especially with fearful dogs & aggressive dogs, without a bunch of negative side effects from forced interactions.

Hello Students,

I just wanted to touch base and tell you some new changes that’s happening with Singapaw Dog Trainer.

From June 15th 2023. I will be offering Video Coaching.
You will still get the same level of commitment and training from me.
I will still provide the training manuals, handouts and advice as you would if YOU were taking an in-person training session.
I can cover ALL the struggles you are currently experiencing with your Dog(s)
So rest assured that the content will all remain the same. ie: Training Games, Positive Reinforcement rewards.. etc

Video coaching is becoming a very popular concept. Mainly because Dog Trainers are able to offer their services Globally, plus owners are realising that Dog Trainer has taken on a very different approach. I currently have clients in Australia, Portugal, UK and Singapore (during the Covid pandemic)
I will now be able to offer this service full time Globally & also Singapore from June 15th 2023.
Unfortunately I will not be able to continue my in-person training sessions in Singapore after this date.

I’m offering a very attractive price for the Evaluation Training session (for those who need an additional evaluation, due to time relapse in training) and also offering 2 very attractive Training Plans for 6 and 12 sessions.
These Offers are available to purchase until August 31st 2023, where I will revert to the standard price plan.
So why not purchase a plan now and use it within 6 months.

If you would like to know more about this offer you can drop me a message or check out my website

Singapawdogtrainer.com

Thank you for spending the time reading this.
If you are not looking for additional training right now, please be so kind and pass on my message to a friend or family member.

Please note I do run a referral scheme, whereby you receive $50 off any Video Coaching Plan you purchase, should you refer someone who purchases a Video Coaching Training Plan.

Kindest wishes
Creating Harmony with your Dog!

It’s been a wonderful 6 sessions working with Ensō. What a sweet sensitive overthinker he is. Such a willingness to want to please. During the training I’ve seen huge progress in his walking and he is less nervous around new people.
Keep up the great work Ensō and co.

Another amazing transformation with Alfie.
A beautiful review too… 🥰
Such a sweet doggie. Who was super sensitive to movement and noise.
Barking and pacing around the house…. Couldn’t be left alone for more than 10 mins.
Now has the confidence and is still growing confidence and independence to be left for a few hours so that his owners can work.
Plus learning how to accept novelty into his home.
Such an amazing sweet doggy with bags of potential to be even more awesome 🤩

Having a video training session for your nervous, anxious or fearful dog could make such a huge difference to their lives. When we bring strangers into our home this can really affect the behaviour of dogs, especially if they struggle with these new situations. Video training sessions can really help grow your dogs confidence. The dog doesn’t have to confront the conflict and therefore their ability to focus on the training is easier. Giving your dog the opportunity to grow their confidence over a video training session is the most wonderful gift you can give your dog. It’s not specifically designed for nervous, fearful anxious dogs, but from experience these dogs benefit hugely from this service.

Another awesome 👏 review 🤩 Thanks 🤩

Ponyo is a lively pup, who likes to greet visitors with bounds of enthusiasm.
It’s been delightful working with him and his owners. Who are now able to train and manage their dog in a positive manner. Being given the tools to address their dogs struggles, through lead walking, recall, separation anxiety and distraction in the environment.
Missing the greetings from this little one so much 🥰
