It's no mystery why you'd have a dog that's sluggish all day, especially after having his meal. We lay it out all for you today and you can pick which side you're on 🤭
❎ Overly processed food like kibble:
1. High in starch: It's purpose is to bind ingredients together to create pellets. High levels of starch in kibble causes blood sugar spikes and crashes that would inevitably giving them a food coma! 🥱
2. Degradation of nutrients: When a diet like kibble is shelf stable, this means that the food dried out using heat to remove moisture. This allows the food to be on a shelf for months, and even years! 😯 Natural vitamins and certain minerals are especially heat sensitive and would be affected by the high heat, or degrade inside their packaging.
3. Dehydration from lack of moisture: As a shelf stable product, moisture is the bane of its existence! Imagine just having dry saltines for a meal with no added water. 😨 Especially in the hot weather, having a lack of moisture in their food can cause them to dehydrate. And a very common sign of dehydration is lethargy.
✅ Fresh food:
1. Bioavailable nutrients: Fresh food is less processed, meaning the nutrients from the ingredients are aplenty and your dog will have an easier time digesting the fresh food goodness!
2. No nasties: We don't have any mystery meat, preservatives or chemicals in our food! We source our food from trusted human grade suppliers. With ingredients like that, they are guaranteed to have optimal nutrients. Artificial preservatives and chemicals can cause a series of health issues in your dog like digestion issues, skin and coat problems, and even depression! It's a definite NO in our book.
