Students from Bedok Green Primay had the opportunity to attend a learning journey at the latest Aquaponics facility located at Pasir Ris Downtown East. The Metro Farm Aquaponics Academy is a 30,000 sqft facility that occupies the level 7 car park space at the Pasir Ris entertainment complex. The Academy also has a fully airconditioned training room where students learned urban farming concepts.

Students were exposed to sustainability concepts and the role modern urban farming plays in Singapore's drive to produce more food locally. Students had hands-on experience in germinating Asian Greens which are suitable for Singapore's climate and started a new round of planting at the rooftop commercial farm for harvesting in the future.

Students learned how new technologies allow vegetables and fish to be cultivated together and how our daily soya waste can be recycled instead of disposed of. They saw how design thinking helps solves problems related to farming in Singapore's harsh urban landscape. Plants can actually co-exist right next to a cinema !
