Job Title: Dog Care Specialist

🌟Care for all doggie guests with great attention to detail, learning and identifying behaviors and needs.

Capturing the funniest and quirkiest sides of our doggos all day, every day! 📸 At Pawsh, all our caregivers pay close attention to every doggie, from getting to know their personalities to understanding their body language. We carefully observe and document their behaviors through daily school report cards. This gives families a detailed look at their furkids’ day at Pawsh while also allowing our team to reflect on the progress each doggo makes. We strive to provide individualized care. Pawsh Club continues to support doctoral vet students from the University of Melbourne for their placement studies. The students not only get to experience the daily operations but also learn how to manage and understand dog behaviors from professional perspectives.

This July, when we hosted their first-year student Anna-bell, she commented on her experience as below:

"My 5 days at Pawsh was an insightful and enriching experience. At Pawsh, the experience and the safety of dogs is the utmost priority. I was introduced to the standard of practices in place to ensure the dogs receive the highest level of care they deserve and have a positive experience. Over the 5 days, I met dogs with varying styles of play and sensitivities. By observing how they interact and initiate play among themselves, I learnt to identify appropriate social behaviours.

In addition, I learnt to read their body language and infer from their vocalisations when the play has become too rough. Prompt intervention is required to prevent any avoidable and unfortunate incidents. I am grateful for the staff for guiding me through this learning experience. Not forgetting the dogs for teaching me such valuable lessons and giving me lots of cuddles!"

The news of Boy Boy's brutal death has left all of us at Pawsh shocked and heartbroken beyond words. There is simply no justification for a dog to suffer such cruelty, whether it's being beaten in the head or hung on a balcony. This tragedy has prompted an important question: how can we identify caregivers who genuinely love animals and would never resort to abuse?

Caring for dogs is undoubtedly challenging, yet profoundly rewarding. They reciprocate our kindness with unwavering unconditional love.

Identifying true dog lovers goes beyond mere affection or excitement at the sight of a cute pup. It's about taking the time to understand a dog's needs, putting those needs above our own, and genuinely enjoying their companionship. We observe their body language and listen to their verbal cues to decipher their emotions and requirements. We provide training and supervision to help them thrive in their environment, and offer guidance on nutrition to prevent health issues.

We are dedicated to continuous learning and promoting animal welfare at Pawsh. By raising awareness of Boy Boy's case, we hope to prevent another innocent dog from enduring such injustice.

🧧CNY Art Craft Classes are in session now through 16 Feb to make some beautiful CNY decorations together. Session consists of training to feel comfortable with paws handled, paw pad shaving and painting with precision. 🎨

How to joins us? Simply book Daycare or Boarding before art supplies run out and you will go home with a unique piece of art craft.

What did our paw students have to say about the experience? - Woof I never knew I had so much artistic talent! I felt so inspired even though I was more interested in tasting the paint at first. I got to choose the shape of the decoration by following the "touch" command. I was good. My teacher had to guide me very carefully so I didn't use paint as makeup. They didn't like my free style so I allowed them to hold my hand. I was quite pleased with the whole process. Hope my pawrents give me lots of praise when they see it!

In light of recent distressing incidents within the pet care industry, we want to reaffirm our commitment to responsible and transparent practices at Pawsh Club. The headlines highlighting mishandling and unfortunate incidents deeply sadden us, emphasizing the need for reliable and professional establishments.

For us, being a licensed dog boarding facility wasn't just a paperwork journey; it was years of dedication and adherence to stringent regulations. While we're disheartened by the continued presence of unlicensed operations, our focus remains on delivering exceptional care.

Our commitment extends beyond words – besides comprehensive staff training, we invest in the pet care industry's future by taking in vet students to let them experience positive and science-based handling of dogs and how to provide detail-oriented care from behavior correction to overall wellness.

First year vet student Sim spent the last two weeks working at Pawsh and she's commented:

"My placement at Pawsh was fun and enriching!

It opened my eyes to behaviour differences/needs of a multitude of dog breeds (ie poodles tend to be affectionate lapdogs and herding dog breeds requires lots of stimulation to keep their mind and body busy)

As I was at Pawsh for 2 weeks, I also got to witness first hand how positive reinforcement and training over time corrects improper behaviour.

Lastly, I now have a better understanding of dog owners and the breed specific struggles they may face. This knowledge will be immensely valuable in helping me build rapport with my future clients.

Thank you Yi for providing this opportunity to me and the other vet students at Pawsh! I am also immensely grateful to Renee who shared her expertise with me. Thank you Pawsh !🐾💙❤️"

This holiday, Pawsh continued hosting a number of vet students from University of Melbourne Veterinary School. When asked about their takeaways from their experience at Pawsh, Sara commented:

"After spending 3 days on placement with Pawsh, I would like to say that this has been a fun and enriching experience for me (and I hope for the dogs I met too!)

It was interesting to see the multitude of different behaviors that each dog presented and it sure was different from interacting and treating dogs in a clinic setting where they were mostly interacting with us humans on a one on one basis, and not with other dogs.

This placement helped me see the importance of socializing our furfriends from an early age with their canine counterparts in order for them to have a balanced life and overall wellbeing.

The importance of good training and understanding the needs of different breeds were also made apparent, ie. working dogs like border collies and shetlands have TONS of energy and need to be exercised more than you think they do for their mental and physical health’s sake!

Yi and Renee truly do an amazing job at monitoring and reading each dog’s behavior and ensuring that all of them have a great time at Pawsh. I appreciate the time I had here and am grateful for this opportunity."

What a fun weekend at Pawsh Christmas Bazaar! Thanks to the collective efforts of our vendors, professional trainers and all of the Pawsh team, the event was a huge hit welcoming over 170 guests and doggos. The rainy weather didn't tamper the mood at all. Everyone came with a cheerful spirit and fully enjoyed the shopping and enrichment.
