A reliable recall should belong to the repertoire of any well-socialised dog. It is not only important to the dog’s learning and development, but also contributes directly to the safety of a dog. Catch your dog in a dangerous situation? Accidentally lose your dog in a public area? How can we shape a quick and solid recall using science-based, positive techniques?

Dear Pet Parents!

If your dog only knows one behaviour, it is likely to be the behaviour “sit”. In that case, what does a sit mean to the dog (us too!) and why is it so important to master this fundamental behaviour? How does it help in curbing problem behaviours such as jumping and pouncing? Does a better “sit” than the usual “sit” that you see exist? Join The Pawrus Team - Kevin Yeo 杨国威 and Jasline Aiw 姚思蕾 , as we discuss these issues LIVE!

As a Member of the Fear Free Pets's Speakers Bureau and Fear Free Certified Animal Trainer, I have made it my mission to minimise the fear, anxiety and stress experienced by our pets.

Aversive tool use on animals (e[lectronic]-collars) means that pets are perpetually subjected to unnecessary, chronic emotional and physiological trauma, which effectively robs them of the choices and freedom necessary to live a happy and healthy life. These are all key indicators of animal welfare (ref. Brambell's Five Freedoms).

Unfortunately, the current state of affairs in Singapore (and many other parts of the world) is this - dubious methods of training based on pseudosciences ('dominance', 'animal communication', etc.) are still being aggressively promoted and accepted by many pet parents on the advice of 'pet professionals' with little to no education in science-based animal training and behaviour. This is a big issue. Misinformation can do more harm than no information at all.

We would like to inform everyone that there is no doubt regarding the best method for animal training. Positive reinforcement. Choosing positive reinforcement should not be a hard decision - it is not only heavily supported by science, humane and effective, it is so easy to adopt and use. Don't believe us? Just ask our human and animal clients!

We are immensely proud of Petco for leading with the explicit ban ( ) on shock collars and similarly call on other local and overseas sellers to do the same. Small collaborative steps such as these take us closer to a better world for us, and the animals that intimately and inextricably share theirs lives together with ours.

It should come as no surprise, that a first world country like Singapore should not be a follower, especially regarding animal welfare issues. Appropriately, Singapore must take the lead to drive the positive pet care revolution, one human, one animal, one experience at a time. We are heartened to support SPCA Singapore to Teach with Kindness and .

We must speak on behalf of the animals that we earnestly serve and firmly rebuke the belief that it is ok for animals to suffer in silence.

They deserve to be heard. And to lead healthy, happy and safe lives worthy of living.

Kevin Yeo

Dear Pet Parents!

Nails, nails, hate ‘em or love them, they all grow at a pace which requires regular maintenance. Long nails are usually clipped on a regular frequency of 1-4 weeks, with the main aim of nail maintenance to keep the nail health pristine, so that it doesn’t affect the posture and gait of the pet. Common nail clipping tools include the nail clipper and electric grinder, but do you know that the nails can be shortened by other ways too? Dear Pet Parents!

It is never fun to be in a one-sided relationship, where the dog is expected to always listen and comply to the whims and fancies of humans, even if they are for the sake of pet care! We think that effective pet care does not have to be neither brash nor forceful, or even reactive! It is possible for us to set our dogs and us, up for success using the principles of positive, science-based methods to prepare our dogs to perceive the care process as cooperative, enriching and most important of all, fun! Over the past 7 months, the COVID-19 Pandemic has shown little signs of abating and its impact has now reverberated through human lives and the economy. For humans living in Singapore, it is now mandatory to wear masks, abide to social distancing and adopt more extreme personal and public hygiene measures, which we haven’t had to do in the past. How has this new normal affected our lives, and in what way does it affect the processes of our pet care services? How have we adjusted our services for the new COVID-19 world? Dear Pet Parents!

When learning, it has been proven that the higher the amount of focus a learner has, the better they learn. As the saying goes, the sooner the better. Dogs are sent for puppy classes from as young as the age of 7 weeks old. Hence, insuring against problem behaviours, is greatly enhanced when your young puppy gets the sole attention of a qualified instructor, all at the comfort of your home. Dear Pet Parents!

Like us, pets feel more comfortable at home as compared to other environments. In most situations, unfamiliar pet grooming salons, other pets’ homes and grooming vehicles often fail to match up to the level of comfort that pets feel in their own home. Sometimes, it is necessary for us to look into the past for ideas about our future. Did you know that just 60 years ago, most of the people in Singapore lived in kampungs (‘a Malaysian enclosure or village.’) and not the beautiful flats that we see today? Are you curious about how the people of that generation care for their pets as compared to today? Join The Pawrus Team - Kevin and Jasline, as we discuss these issues LIVE!
