Food for thought:
๐ญ What have you been reinforcing your dog in his/her daily behavior?
Be it a desirable or non-desirable behabior.
A classic example would be pulling on lead:
Dog pulls on lead. (๐ฑ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐)
Dog gains access to its object of interest, be it another dog/human or an interesting scent. (๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐)
Hence, by allowing your dog who is desperately pulling on lead in an attempt to gain access to another dog, you have just reinforced your dog that pulling on lead will get them to what/where they want.
Another example:
Dog sees favorite human (๐ฐ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐) -> Dog jumps at human (๐ฑ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐) -> Dog receives excitement & affection from human. (๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐)
So, you have just reinforced your dog that jumping on you will get your attention & affection.
๐ญ Perhaps itโs time to re-examine ourselves, if we have been unknowingly reinforcing our dogs for the undesirable behaviors that we frown upon, & wonder why our dogs behave this way.
