🥦 If you’re not preparing broccoli this way, you’re not helping to prevent cancer, according to science!🔬

If you want your dog (or cat!) to reap all of the longevity benefits inside this cruciferous veggie, how you prepare it makes a BIG difference.

Many people cut broccoli into florets or bite-size pieces, cook it, then serve it - to themselves and their pets. And yes, of course, there is a whole host of beneficial nutrients and fiber in broccoli prepared this way.

But with some small but very significant changes to the way you prepare broccoli, you can put a lot more of the powerhouse bioactive sulforaphane into the bowl, along with the fiber and nutrients.

Studies show that sulforaphane - found in high levels in broccoli - has potent anti-cancer effects. So if your dog or cat is fighting cancer, or if you’re proactively doing all you can to prevent it, adding sulforaphane is a smart move. In addition, sulforaphane can decrease inflammation, prevent type 2 diabetes, and detoxify heavy metals, mycotoxins, and Maillard reaction products (MRPs). These MRPs are often found in ultra-processed pet food, so you can substantially improve a bowl of kibble by adding broccoli.

💡Here’s the trick: you can dramatically increase the sulforaphane content with two simple kitchen hacks!

How it works: When you buy fresh broccoli (and the fresher, the better when it comes to sulforaphane), the sulforaphane hasn’t been “unlocked” yet. Instead, its precursor, glucoraphanin, is waiting to combine with an enzyme called myrosinase. Damaging broccoli cells (by chopping, grinding, chewing) activates the myrosinase so that it can convert glucoraphanin into sulforaphane.

🔪Step 1: Finely chop fresh broccoli and activate that myrosinase! (Researchers found that chopping broccoli into 2 mm pieces maximized the myrosinase activity). In a rush? Whiz it up in a food processor.

⏱Step 2: Let it rest. Studies also show that letting the chopped broccoli sit for 90 minutes or longer tripled the sulforaphane levels, compared to serving the broccoli right away.

Yes, never lost. 💚

Last month, I’ve received many many messages and calls sending me support and condolences. I know and feel they all come from such a loving place, thank you.

The expression ‘ Sorry for your loss’ was said many times. And please don’t be mistaken with this post, as I really do appreciate all of you.

But as I promised that I’d share how Ollie has worked with me from the very day he stepped into my life in 14th Feb 2011, here’s one for today.

We never ever lose anyone we love. We have memories made together, love shared and lessons learnt from each other. They might have left their physical body here on earth, but if you are very connected all these times, your loved ones are still teaching you things, showing you how and why, reminding you how things could be done and guiding you always. We see them in our daily routine, decision makings and especially sharing experiences with someone else going through the same.

I’ve no regrets at all nor feel any sadness of loss when Ollie left as he is always close to me in my heart, and he and I know I’ve done my very best for him to my best knowledge and ability from day one. It may not be the best to another person, but it was the best at least to us. There was nothing left unsaid, nothing left undone.

Your loved ones are never ‘gone’.

Found these pictures of Ollie’s adoption pictures back in 2011 where he was looking for a home. I remember vividly how everything started. What a ride it’s been!

As I recount now these almost 13 years of us being together, I’ve spent so much quality time with Ollie, we have had so many life changing things experienced together and I’m glad we never wasted a single moment together. Every day and every little thing counted. I’m grateful that I spent ‘too’ much time with him . Nothing left unsaid or undone. 🙌🏼

Thank you for bringing my superstar Ollie to us. Eternally grateful 🙏💚

Thank you to all who have been checking up on me and the family.

We are doing very ok. We will always miss Ollie but we need not be sad missing him for he had always been a happy boy, leaving us with so much to be thankful for.

These two have taken up to do the things Ollie had been doing for them, like asking for their meals at specific timings, protecting the home and assuming the roles of my kitchen elves now.

I know Ollie’s departure has affected many. But take heart that he had a fulfilling life and had exceeded his life’s missions by leaps and bounds. He even outlived his life expectancy given by his specialist by 505 days. In this time, Ollie was so comfortable and happy as we received so much help, care and miracles everytime help was needed. Physically he was getting older but mentally he had always been sharp. He even chose the exact time he wanted to leave his physical body, with all of us beside him.
Isn’t that beautiful?

Keep growing in his name! Live life every day like it’s your last.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New year!
