Another wet and rainy late afternoon. Bam (Lab) is fast asleep (he can sleep through any storm). Bai (Husky) is walking around aimlessly, as she doesn't like the sound of thunder rumbling through the sky. She didn't mind thunderstorms till fairly recently, another example of a change in doggy behavior as she has gotten way older.

Bam Bam found me at a car park about 11 years ago. It was late at night (around 940pm) after my haircut. He was a stinky slobbery doggy whom i could tell was super friendly. Came up to me and pranced around looking for treats and some attention. At that time i wasn't sure if i could take in another dog as i already had two at home. However, his cheerful disposition certainly captivated me. I grabbed him and threw him in the back seat of the car and off to the vet we went for a checkup. I didn't want him wandering around with no food or shelter. He was so hungry and greedy that he ate all the pills off the vet's palm. The vet told me i will have no problem feeding him (laughing as he said that) as Bam could consume medication without concealing them in treats.

Spent the next few days looking up and checking out lost pets website and forums. Even took to walking around the neighborhood to see if anyone had posted lost dog notices, but found no leads.

Well the rest is as they say.....history. Bam is now part of our family.

Will like to share some photos of Grande Dame Bai Bai taken last weekend when the weather was balmy.

Bai Bai was adopted from one of our neighbor, whose tenant could unfortunately no longer care for her. When she first came to our house, she would always pine to go home, totally unaware that it just wasn't possible. She thought that she could annoy and irritate us by taking toilet breaks in the family room many times a day (we were walking our doggies 5 times a day). Needless to say, a huge patch of the parquet floor was totally destroyed (seepage problem). Maybe she thought in her doggie mind that we will reject her and send her back. i have to say that her perseverance amazed me but didn't impress me.

Her previous owner doted on her, bought lamb chops for her every weekend. We were very certain that she misses him a lot. Bai is also the only dog we have that has to be hand fed till today haha. She would even summon us to bring her water and treats, refusing to move an inch. Maybe from a royal lineage from some Siberian tribe.

In the last 5 to 6 months, Bai has unfortunately also lost her ability to get up on her own. This has resulted in incessant barking to get our attention regardless of time of the day (night). If you have any experience in caring for a very vocal senior dog, do share some care giving tips with us. We will love to hear from you as well.

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend.

To continue on the topic of mobility and daily walks, we have been supplementing Bai and Bam's diet with human grade milk powder (just ensure there is no natural sugar or artificial sweetener). Senior doggies are just like us, they need a good dose of Calcium supplements as well. In addition to milk powder, they also enjoy cool and refreshing (Greek) yoghurt on a daily basis too.

Both doggies are on glucosamine supplements, as well as joint lubricant / pain killers (prescribed by the vet) to ensure they can be active for as long as possible.

Although they are no longer as mobile, their eating habits haven't changed.......Bam still eats like a hungry wolf (Does he ever taste his food? But then my kids think he eats like me), and Bai still nibbles like a princess. Do check out the attached video of them enjoying healthy cupcakes made for doggies.

Afternoon Friends. It is a scorching 32 degrees outdoors and a prefect time to give my 2 doggies a bath. Both having their afternoon siesta.......i wanna be a dog too at times.

Change in Behavior of Senior Dogs
Our doggies have their toilet break 5 times a day (we used to do that for your furkids at Woofys too), it is very evident that Bai (Husky) and Bam (Lab) have slowed down quite a lot. Intense heat during the day deters them now and they would rather laze at home. Bai cannot get up on her own, and has to be lifted every time she needs to rise from her slumber, so mobility can become an issue when they age. Walks have become much shorter but no less intense in terms of sniffing out messages left behind by other doggies. Do remember to slow down for our senior dogs and watch those road crossings. Shorter and more frequent walks will definitely keep them happy too.

Hi Friends. Hope everyone had a fantastic Chinese New Year / Holiday period.
If you have visited Woofy's, you may have interacted with our three doggies. Here is a snapshot of our adopted Husky Xiao Bai.
She is getting on with age and is definitely a senior at 15 years old (105 human years)!
It is a totally different ball game caring for a senior dog and i will share some personal experiences, which i hope will be helpful if you have a senior, or a middle age furkid.

Evening Everyone. Saw these two Singapore specials when i was walking my dogs at Tai Keng gardens at 930pm. Please help them find their parents.

Wang Wang, a sweet 5-year old male Singapore Special needs a loving family.

Owner is going for surgery and will not be able to care for Wang Wang post surgery.

Wang Wang is totally well socialised. He didn't bark at me when we first met, came right up to me wagging his tail with a big smile, asking for some love and attention.

He is not sterilized yet but the current owner will neuter if he is adopted.

Please whatsapp Jou at 9618 1755 if you are keen.

Evening parents. Thank you all for your wonderful comments. Sure made our day 😀

Since we are probably not heading out to malls (temperature checks at some malls), and cinemas and gyms are closed, will you like to share some parks you enjoy bringing your doggies for a work out or a leisurely stroll?

We bring our doggies to an open field (not an official dog park or run) along Parry Avenue at the Kovan area close to where Woofys was. If there is no one playing soccer or baseball, dogs may run around leash free. It is an old school field, which is fenced up on 3 sides. The one side facing Parry Avenue has a low fence with waist high metal bars (quite a gap if your doggy is small) but there is small open ditch to prevent small dogs from jumping over.

If you decide to head down to the old school field, do bear in mind that there are 2 small gaps at each end of the field facing Parry Ave, so do MAKE SURE that your doggy ALWAYS comes back to you when called, else our advise is to leash and walk your furkid(s). Enjoy.

Hello Doggy Parents. It has been almost 6 months since Woofys shuttered at the end of September 2019. We hope that everyone is healthy during this trying period (Covid 19 pandemic). We are still taking our doggies out for long walks late at night (it is less crowded) as it is much cooler for our husky Bai Bai.

In the course of these 6 months, a few dogs have moved away from Singapore to destinations such as Dubai and Scotland. Understand that there are strict lockdowns in those locations and their parents can only walk their doggies for an hour each day.

Trust that most of us are not travelling unless absolutely necessary. Do share with us photos of fur kids who had stayed or groomed at Woofys as we miss them so much.

Meanwhile, do eat and rest well, and stay healthy.

It has been a wonderful 3 years since we took over Woofy's Corner in 2016. Every dog that came through our door has a different story to tell, and has enriched our experience of the canine world. We love and will miss each one of them. Fur parents, we thank you for entrusting your doggies to us. To some of your kids, we've been their second home. To our dear Woofy's team, we thank you for your dedication, excellence and commitment. You've all contributed tremendously to the success of Woofy's. It is truly unfortunate that we were not able to pass on the legacy of Woofy's to another dog lover due to leasing issues. We have therefore ceased operations. Our best wishes to everyone, and our hugs to dear doggies.

She’s a lovely lanky girl, full of energy. We’ve had more time to bond during this staycation as it’s quite a bit longer. Love how she feels totally at home now, lying comfortably at her favourite spots for extended periods of time, hanging out with our doggies, and knowing when it’s her walk time - no longer anxious when it’s her friends’ turn. She goes back tomorrow and we already know we’ll be missing her. Take care Ruby girl 💕

He loves dragon fruit a lot and will inhale them but he cannot have too much. Slowing it down for him here so he gets to enjoy them.

Happy face Crystal got to come early for grooming today, like other Saturdays. Last week, she was upset she had to wait till the afternoon for her grooming trip. Apparently, she waited at her gate, refusing to go back into her house.
