Early intervention and prevention is always the best option to protect your pet’s teeth.

This is a Grade 2 (Moderate Periodontal Disease) out of 4. With 4 being the worst!
This would be the good time to do dental scaling to maintain a healthy mouth as bacteria has not spread beyond the gum line and are still somewhat still healthy.

If the bacteria spreads further in the gums and roots of teeth, tooth extractions may be the only option to maintain a healthy mouth. Not to mention, the added costs and recovery period for your pet.

We highly recommend getting your pet’s mouth checked during your vet visits to ensure that everything is in order.

Do give us a call at ☎️ 6909 5338 or WhatsApp (Text only) us at 📱8752 6121 for appointments.

This 6 year old dog was presented to Hillside Veterinary for severe skin disease.
The dog was very itchy, his skin was red, thickened and inflamed with papules.

For 2 years, under the care of another clinic, the patient has been on multiple courses of antibiotics and medications to treat the skin, but improvement was not significant.

His owner came to Hillside Veterinary to get a 2nd opinion and was given a new treatment to follow.
The “After” photo shows his skin during his 3-week review. The dog was less itchy while the redness and thickness of the skin had dramatically reduced.

At Hillside Veterinary, we see lots of dermatology cases due to our special interest in skin. Hillside Veterinary is also the only clinic that offers Intradermal Skin Testing in Singapore and we are the only Heska Partner Lab in Southeast Asia that offers IgE testing for allergies.

If you have been struggling with your pet’s skin, book an appointment with us. We would love to help.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to give direct them to ☎️ 6909 5338 or WhatsApp (Text only) us at 📱8752 6121.

📸 Swipe left to see difference after a thorough clean on one of our patients ears under sedation!

👂🏻Some pets have highly sensitive ears and dislike having them handled, especially if there are inflamed and painful all the time. Therefore, ear cleaning under sedation or general anaesthetic is recommended. This allows the veterinarian to safely and inspect and clean the ears completely without causing further pain and fear to your pet.

Once the ears are cleaned and with the help of medications, the ears become less painful. This can make regular ear treatments at home become easier.

In some cases, if the ears are particularly uncomfortable, pain relief medications may be given for a few days to reduce inflammation before starting ear medications.

If your pet is suffering from ear infections, it’s best to resolve it as leaving it untreated can lead to potential problems.

Feel free give us a call at ☎️ 6909 5338 or WhatsApp (Text only) us at 📱8752 6121 if you need help with your pet’s ears.

🇸🇬 Have you heard? The Singapore government is proposing to introduce a new framework to make life better for both cats and their owners.

In support of the coming guidelines, Hillside Veterinary Surgery is cutting our cat sterilisation and microchipping prices by 𝟏𝟎% 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭!

✂️ There are many benefits to sterilisation, not only does it eliminate or reduce the risk of certain diseases and behavioural problems, but it also lowers the costs when it comes to future cat licensing fees!

Don’t forget about the microchip!
Microchipping enhances the welfare and traceability of cats in Singapore. A microchip can often help with reuniting lost cats to their owners, which could literally save your cat’s life.

If you are considering to get your cat sterilised or microchipped, please feel free to reach out to us.

🚑 We rescued Mr Smily from the depths of a dog stomach. 🙂

In our previous post, we wrote about induce vomiting when your pet swallows something he is not suppose to.

Recently, we had a case which the poor dog swollen a chew toy WHOLE and while we tried to induce the dog to vomit but it did not work. Hence our next option: Exploratory surgery.

That basically means, we have to put the dog through general anaesthesia, cut him open, go through his organs, find the toy, remove the toy and examine for any trauma, fix it and close up.

In best case scenario, there is no organ or tissue damage and hope for a good recovery.

The worst case scenario will be any stomach or intestinal obstruction, perforation, which can cause serious damage to tissues and this require further surgical intervention to repair. Often times, recovery is a lot slower and harder for these patients.

This dog got real lucky that his owners saw him swallowing the toy and brought him in immediately. The Hillside team acted fast and got Mr Smiley out before he could cause any worst trouble.

We like to urge pet owners to ensure that the size of the toy is appropriate for your pet and also factor in their growth rate when it comes to buying toys. That toy you bought might be the right size for a six month old puppy, but at 1 year old he can be lot bigger and it’s time to rethink if the toys need to be replaced.

Cash the Golden Retriever puppy decided it’ll be fun to swallow one of his Daddy’s ear pods.
Luckily, his daddy noticed and brought him in immediately!

He was administered an injection to induce vomiting. It’s rather effective and works within a 2-3 minutes when given. After which, Cash would feel miserable, pretty much like a bad hungover, as you can see from the look of regret in his face, but don’t worry, the effects doesn’t last long. He’ll feel better after a few hours and hopefully he learns his lesson. 🤞🏻

It always best to induce vomiting as soon as possible - within 2 hours, because once the foreign object travels out the of the stomach there is an increase chance of it getting stuck in the intestines causing a lot of pain and damage. When that happens, surgery might be the only option.

We also often induce vomiting for food poisoning, like chocolates, grapes, macadamia, onions, garlic and avocados. The same rule applies - it should be done as soon as possible, because these toxins unlike objects are absorbed more rapidly by the body.

If you suspect your furkid has ingested something foreign or toxic, please call your veterinarian immediately and ask for advise. Better safe than sorry.
