When the ear is so abnormal, cleaning or medication doesn’t help. The best way to resolve it may be surgery to remove the entire ear canal aka Total Ear Canal Ablation and Bulla Osteotomy (TECA-BO).

A parasite that you do not want!
The Round Worm lives in your pet’s intestine that can cause diarrhoea, vomiting, weight loss and malnutrition. It is also infectious to humans which can affect our muscles, eyes and brain.
Therefore, monthly deworming of dogs is recommended to reduce environmental contamination with roundworm eggs and minimise the risk of transmission to people.
Anti-parasitic monthly medication like Nexgard or Simparica are highly effective options to dispose of these parasites. They also provide further protection against fleas, ticks, mites, heartworm and tapeworms all in one tasty chew.

IDST, short for Intradermal Skin Testing - is a method of determining your pet's environmental allergy by injecting a small amount of allergen under the surface of the skin and observing it for any reaction.
💉It is a useful allergy diagnostic tool and in fact, the same is often done on humans to detect allergies as well.
🔴 When the allergen is administered under the skin and if your pet is allergic, swelling and redness would occur confirming the allergy. The larger the reaction in the skin, the higher the patient sensitivity to the allergen.

📸 What does an elongated soft palate looks like?
In our previous post, we discussed about Brachycephalic Syndrome and how the narrow nostrils can create difficulty in breathing in brachycephalic breeds like Bulldogs. 😤
Another common problem that these breeds suffer from is an elongated soft palate, where the breathing airway is blocked by an abnormally long soft palate, which interferes with the movement of oxygen into the lungs.
Again, this can be resolved through corrective surgery, by cutting away the extra tissue on the soft palate. 🔪 However, to truly know if this surgery is necessary, a full examination of the soft palate is required and can only be done when the dog is under heavy sedation or general anaesthesia, due to the need to open the mouth to examine deep down the throat.
🤔💭Why is it important to correct these conditions?
Because of their breathing difficulties, these dogs can collapse just from over excitement and over exertion and are highly susceptible to heat stroke because they cannot draw enough air to cool down.
😰 They are also prone to fainting, wheezing, gagging, choking, sleep apnea because they are constantly struggling to breathe. Obesity too can make it worse.

The wound has healed nicely and she is back to her active self.

Lola is a grand old dame who has been suffering from arthritis for over 10 years. When her pain became too much to bear even with pain medications and joint supplements, her owner elected for acupuncture to help her.
