Cryptorchidism is typically diagnosed with a physical examination. If the testicle(s) are not palpable in the sc***um, the veterinarian would extend their examination to the groin and abdomen area. In cases of abdominal cryptorchidism, where the testicle may not be palpable, additional tools like radiographs, an abdominal ultrasound, or even exploratory surgery might be employed to locate it. The next step often involves the removal of the testicles (ie. desexing). Learn more about how we manage cryptorchidism!

Cryptorchidism, where one or both testicles fail to descend into the sc***um, poses risks for our furry companions. While the exact cause of this condition remains a mystery, it is theorised to be genetic in nature. 🧬

Here’s a cautionary note: Breeding dogs with cryptorchidism is not recommended, as it increases the likelihood of passing on this trait, and the risks associated with it.
