Ever notice your chinchillas 🐭 getting pink or red ears? It means they are overheating 🥵 If ignored, it may lead to death ☠️

As chinchillas do not possess the ability to sweat, the only way to release heat is through their ears 👂🏻Their veins enlarge and the skin on their ears turn pink or red, and feels warm to the touch.

Therefore, it is very important for them to be in an air-conditioned room 💨 with temperatures ranging between 16 to 23 degrees celsius. Access to fresh water 24/7 is a must too!💧

Prof Beary recommends having a cooling plate or a granite tile in their enclosure for them to sit and cool off 🆒️

Are your bunnies chewing your cables, destroying your furniture, or just being a troublemaker? 😤 They may be bored! 🥱 Be careful because boredom may just lead to depression in bunnies 🐰🥲

Prof Beary recommends engaging your rabbits by stimulating them mentally and physically with the following,

1️⃣ Chew Toys
Their teeth are always growing, so to prevent them from chewing on things that they are not supposed to and giving you a headache😅, give them chew toys such as willow toys, hay cakes, or straw mats! E.g. Binky Bunny Willow Cube or Oxbow Enriched Life Play Table.

2️⃣ Hideouts
If you noticed, bunnies love to hide in dark and cooling places, especially in Singapore’s ☀️ weather. So prepare some hideouts like cardboard cottages to grass woven hideaways for them to chill in 😎 E.g. Binky Bunny Cottontail Cottage or Oxbow Timothy Bungalow.

3️⃣ Tunnels

Today, Prof Beary is going to share with us why species appropriate food is important for hamsters 🐹

The two main hamster breeds are Syrians and Dwarfs. They live in totally different habitats in the wild. Syrian hamsters can be found in rich agricultural fields. Hence, they prefer a diet consisting of a variety of cereals like wheat and oats 🌾 Dwarf hamsters, on the other hand, live in the desert, and they prefer tiny seeds such as millet. Also, Dwarfs are genetically more susceptible to diabetes, so sweet treats such as fruits should only be given occasionally ❌️
