Sanctuary Pet Cremation

The Rainbow Bridge poem is a well-known and cherished piece among pet owners. The true author of the poem has always remained disputed and there wasn’t an answer about who originally wrote it.
However, in a recent National Geographic article, the author of the "Rainbow Bridge" poem has finally been identified as Edna Clyne-Rekhy, an 82-year-old Scottish artist and animal lover. Her creation has undoubtedly brought solace to countless pet owners over the years. The diligent efforts of an art historian and author - Paul Koudounaris, have led to this significant discovery.

The architectural design of Sanctuary Pet Crematorium has been shortlisted for Singapore Institute of Architects 2022 Design Awards under the Special Project Category.

We could like to thank and congratulate Formwerkz Architects for their seamless effort, time and commitment in the creation and completion of the project. We are rooting for them as their product designs are exquisite and we hope that more of reputable work may be seen.

Our third post shares the design inspiration behind our Rainbow Bridge feature wall and skylight.

The ‘Bifrost Bridge’ from Marvel’s Thor movie, also known as the Rainbow Bridge, links earth to heaven according to Norse mythology. Inspired by the Bifrost and embodying it in our design creation, we faithfully believe that the Rainbow Bridge symbolises the celestial passage for our pets.

At each farewell during the end of the memorial service, the feature wall coupled with the skylight herald our beloved pet leaving for the Rainbow Bridge. Through this journey, we hope to convey a measure of peace and closure for all owners attending the private cremation service.

Pet owners share a big portion of their lives with their beloved pets. We feed, bathe, play and take the time to walk with them. In return, they stay loyal and faithful to us, teaching us patience, compassion and love. They embrace each moment with unrelenting optimism.

We dread the day when they pass on because it will hurt and we are afraid to contemplate that they will no longer be around with us.

As we walk them down this pathway, we grasp our pet’s paw and celebrate their life, reflecting on all they have taught and given us.

This 38.5m long x 2.2m wide footpath was designed for pet owners to accompany their pet for a final walk before sending them off to the rainbow bridge.

Omotenashi is a Japanese buzzword linked to Olympics 2021. Omotenashi hospitality is paying attention to details, treating one kindly and generously without any expectation of anything in return. Wholehearted hospitality. We wanted our fellow pet owners to experience peace and kindness amid their bereavement. How do we design peace and kindness into experiences at Sanctuary Pet Crematorium? We started by incorporating it subtly in our structures, environment and processes and we will be posting 7 key features in the coming weeks.

Our first post today is about the big round glass window at our reception area measuring 107cm in diameter. Round window is a common feature in many Japanese teahouses and gardens. Though a relatively big window, many pawrents may not notice it as their hearts are still heavy when they first reach here. After the memorial service at our service hall, many pet owners are comforted when they first learnt or are reminded of the poem - Rainbow Bridge. The round window is a subtle representation of the reunion with our pets friends at the Rainbow Bridge when we see them again one day – 团’圆’.
