The Czechoslovakian working lines were developed from the former East German (DDR) German Shepherd bloodline that was bred
during the World War II. Prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall, DDR dogs were kept isolated from the West German dogs and because of that, they retained their own distinct characteristics. Different from show lines, these dogs have stronger temperament and enhanced bravery, high drive, solid nerves, exceptional working ability and they love to work. Their backs do not slope like the show lines, but have a straight appearance. They have stronger bones, dark pigmentation and most importantly, also a very low rate of hip and elbow dysplasia.
