Organic egg production is the production of eggs through organic means. In this process, the poultry are fed organic feed. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, organic means that the laying hens must have access to the outdoors and cannot be raised in cages. Organic egg producers cannot use antibiotics except during an infectious outbreak. Only natural molting can occur within
the flock; forced molting is not allowed. Significant differences cover feed, medication, and animal welfare. Organic hens are fed organic feed; it is prohibited to feed animal byproducts or GMO crops - which is not disallowed in free range environments; no antibiotics allowed except in emergencies (in free range, it is up to the farmer, but the same levels of antibiotics as conventional farming is allowed); required animal welfare standards in organic farms, which can improve the quality of both the eggs and the meat - low stress levels, which are not necessarily guaranteed by organic production nor unique to it, may lead to superior quality of animal products, a fact long known and used in the production of Wagyu beef,[citation needed] whose high quality is to a greater extent the result of its genetic composition, altered by breeding, as opposed to production practices. Organic feed is grown by certified organic farmers. To become a certified organic farmer, the crop must be free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The crop must be free of GMOs and synthetic fertilization for three years before it can be certified for organic usage. If the crop is contaminated by cross-fertilization, the crop is rendered useless for organic grading. Finally, there can be no animal by-products fed to the poultry. "Organic" egg production means that the flock may not live in cages and must have access to outdoor areas. Organic egg producers in the United States do not always grant meaningful outdoor access to their organic laying hens; most industrial-scale organic egg producers generally build small wood or concrete porches attached to the henhouses, which passes as outdoor access.

So there are my last days as chicken farmer :( I'm very sad but I have to leave Thailand for min. 6 months and there is no one I trust enough to take care about birds. Almost my whole flock has been sold already (just few black chickens and few Isbars left for sale). Most of my birds went to Kalasin to my good friend Barry Willingham as I know he will treat them good and don't mix the breeds (Y) So if you would like to orders some chicks feel free to contact us :) My fanpage will remain open but not so active as used to be... But I will try to post all updates for Kalasin farm so you will know what is going on with my birds and what is on stock for sale at the moment (Y) This was great adventure and I learned to love chickens. See you again and don't even think that DK Chicken Farm will be closed forever :) I will come back again (Y) :D
"I'm sooo broody... don't to dare to disturb me now" (Y) :D Young 7 months old black hen get broody :) First of them... mother nature calls... I let her sit on 10 eggs so around 20 of July will be new chicks (Y) And btw one of my young RIR's just hatched her first chicks today... video/pictures tomorrow as now I really don't want to disturb her ;)
My Isbar chickens are growing fast... Soon I will have to separate them from Japanese Silkies and start to breed them for sale (Y) :D
Home made incubator... 0 THB (only light bulb cost me) (Y) And there we go :D I hatched first 6 chicks inside (Y) :)
Prince decided that instead of chasing hens and fight other rooster today he going to be good boy and do some gardening... So here we are - Prince not in the coop or running area just free ranging like an old ranger :D (Y)
Ramses is taking his girls for walk... And he is not really happy that I get to close to them... You can hear his angry "brrrrrrrrrrrrr" :P (Y) :D
WOOOOOOW !!!! This young Isbar rooster is only 2,5 months old and today he crow for the first time !!! (Y) :) That's very early and as you can see he scared himself with this fact :D
Meet Rocky my one and only fighting chicken I own (Y) I have to keep him separate as he is little aggressive towards other youngsters of other breeds, even he is only 2 months old he is picking on older hens... He is afraid of older roosters yet but this will probably change in time... But to me he is very friendly... like to seat on my shoulder and walk around... He can go even to shop with me to make sure I do correct shopping - don't forget to buy beer :P :D (Y)
As I felt from some time already that my Isbar chickens are to big for their small hose for chicks, I decided yesterday evening to move them to the new, much bigger house together with my Japanese Silkies (they are similar age)... Today they are exploring new environment and seems to be happy with this change :) I don't know about Japanese Silkies but Isbar chickens are known to be very calm and not aggressive breed so there shouldn't be big problem with fighting (Y) :D
And for breakfast today... 1 egg (Y) You don't need more if you are sure that this is 2 yolks egg (Y) ;) :D
Evening snack :) Some vegetables salad for my chickens (Y) One the right side you can see my young Rhode Island Reds... The dark ones (Y) :)
Even when young rooster will find his match and she would cooperate after whole act he need to be careful as hen can be unhappy about something and will start to be mean... :P So alwyas be ready to run or jump away from her sharp beak (Y) :D
Sometimes after many attempts young roo will succeed... Good job my young padawan (Y) :D
It's very difficult task for young rooster to find girlfriend... Even so handsome like this one ;) Most of them seems just to ignore him or running away... And there is Ziutek also who keeps an eye on his flock and try to punish any attempt of making closer relationship with girls from his flock... Ufff... hard life of young roo (Y) :P :D
