Meet Belle.

Abandoned near my home, all alone and confused I couldn't bear to pass her a couple of times every day and see her out in the middle of the road on a busy bend always looking out for the people who presumably were her family.

So, I got her captured safely and she is now at a local Vets, spayed and recovering from blood parasites.

This little girls life is going to change so much!

Follow for more updates on this adorable Angel!

Going to and from home each day I noticed this sweet dog, barely older than a puppy, all alone on the grounds of a bar with a couple of football pitches.A fe...

BELLE UPDATE

I visit our Belle every morning at the Vets. Apart from feeling anxious and nervous she is otherwise well.

I get a little happy tail wag when I walk into her kennel area but the sulky face soon kicks in 😟

She has not had her spay surgery yet as blood tests revealed she is suffering with anemia, which the vet puts down to blood parasites but thankfully, no problem with her liver 👌🙏

Will next update after her surgery in the meantime, her capture post was viewed over 4,000 times which is so wonderful to know that she is cared about and loved by so many people and thank you so much for your messages of support and care for her! You really are part of making a difference for this little Angel 🥰🫶🙏

The grim reality to the life of street dogs in my own town. Some are in areas ear marked for construction. The outcomes are not good for the dogs when contractors want to access the land! It's overwhelming for all involved in trying to find a solution which is ultimately to neuter and spay but these dogs are all unapproachable. They run away meaning they have to be darted which in itself is time consuming and very costly. The government and regional municipality councils do nothing to support the organisations that do this work. The funding comes through donations but ironically, this work gets the least social media attention and therefore, the least direct funding! Bless Tammy and so many like her who do this incredible work in the face of seeing so much misery! 🥺

For over 18 months I have followed the tireless dog and cat rescue work of Rungchat Suebeong with the promise that I would visit her home in Surin to see first hand, some of the swwef rescued cats and dogs in her care.

My trip was also about understanding how Thai people feel about rescuing what to them, must seem like walking uphill on a newly tarred road carrying a backpack!

In addition, in rural towns and villages, attitudes towards stray dogs is harsh. Where most are kept, their function is a guard dog. Certainly not a beloved pet. When their usefulness is over, they are ignored, dumped or killed. When rescuers like Rin go out to put food down for street dogs they are met with aggression, some even starting to intimidate by taking photos and videos on their phones.

Frankly, there is little compassion for the street dogs or those that try to rescue or look out for them.

Fundamentally, there is no difference between genuine Thai rescuers and Expat rescuers. I say genuine because there are scammers who post dramatic content, seeming to cry in desperation at having no food for their dogs only to use donations for personal benefit. This applies to western rescuers in Thailand too!

The biggest difference being funding. Thai rescuers direct their social media content, understandably, to Thai people where as expats can reach a far wider English speaking audience that can include Thais. By funding standards, expats are so much better off!

Where I have a consistent quandary, it is in regard to hoarding or simply having too many dogs or cats, or both, in their care. I say quandary because for sure, most will have been removed from a terrible situation and quite often, puppies are abandoned on their doorsteps. What are they to do!? Equally though, when numbers become unmanageable it's clear that quality of life and quality of care starts to diminish and life in a shelter becomes very stressful for the animals and any staff or workers.

I would love to see collaborations and I do know the Soi Dog Foundation has helped a number of Thai founded organisations but from what I can see, there are two very big obstacles.

Firstly, communication being the biggest problem but secondly, there is very little chance in getting a Thai person to adopt methods or ideas they are unfamiliar with that would clearly benefit them. In most cases, right or wrong, it's their way or the highway.

This makes it difficult to support them. Afterall, if we see our own local rescue shelters doing things in a less than ideal way, we find it difficult to donate to them so what chance donating to people or organisations in another country who speak a different language and who are not willing to adapt to different methods, styles or practices that are already proven to work.

Rin's own story of how she came to be a rescuer is quite touching but very personal so I won't share it here. But it started with 30 dogs during covid time and has grown to around 100 dogs and cats. For me, already too many but truth of the matter.....it is 100 animals that would otherwise would already be dead!

Freddie's Friends Foundation has made donations to Rin and I am sure, for the right need, I will continue to donate. While with Rin I was happy to work to clear her drainage system that otherwise, on the occasion of a big downpour, her temporary housing area for a number of the animals will have flooded. I wash happy to wash up and of course, socialise with the dogs and cats which again, when numbers become so great, is an aspect of welfare that is not necessarily ignored, there simply isn't the time!

So its a mixed blessings thing. Thank God for Rin and the likes of her. They are genuine. They need our support but they need to reach out to collaborate and be prepared to be flexible with adopting changes.

Thank you to khun Rin for her time and her love of dogs and cats 🙏🫶

It's been a busy week at home in Ban Chang! 😳

But....we've saved a precious street dog from her horrific wounds, fed others and got 4 kittens adopted with hope for more adoptions soon.

Plus, plans in place for Momma cats to be spayed.

The support from followers has been overwhelming! 🙏❤️

Anyway, I put a montage together of this week's activity and uploaded it to my YouTube channel. Trying to get to 1000 subscribers to become monetized which will help out with vet bills. If you can jump over to their and subscribe to my channel that's as good as a free donation! 🫶

To be clear, Freddies Friends Foundation mission is to make donations and raise awareness for the incredible animal rescue organisations throughout Thailand....

Final few moments spent with baby Christina before she left for her forever home!

I hate goodbyes but when they are with happy outcomes then it's not so sad.

Great job team Happy Doggo 👌🫶👏❤️
