One upon a time

(CEK) Combat Elite Knl's CH "Amos Moses"

Red Head (1st owner of Ch. Amos Moses): Regarding Ch. Amos Moses, the story is as follows. I received Amos and several littermates as a result of a breeding agreement with Mr. Harvey. From the very beginning Amos seemed to be a special pup. He stood out from the others almost from the start. He showed that special something that you look for in young stock.

Amos began his schooling at about 18 months and was eager from the start. After several short rolls It was time to take a chance on Amos. We were hooked into a kennel out of Louisiana and were excited to begin our work. Amos worked well on both the slat and belt mills but seemed to like the swimming and the long hand walks the best. Three days before the match we were notified that our opponents were going to forfeit. I was extremely disappointed. Amos was in top shape. I wanted this first match to be his game test. After careful thinking I decided to game test Amos.

It was set for the original match night and several top level Dogmen were to attend. In Texas most Dogmen prefer the Shotgun type dogs Vs the Gamey type dogs and expected to see Amos get abused. The first opponent was a well schooled chest dog who went 20 min. with Amos and was picked up in order to be matched at a later date. The second was a hard driving front end dog who went about 25 min. with Amos before Amos moved to the top. I made a decision to allow them to bring in a third dog in order to remove all doubt. The third opponent was much larger and punished Amos from the beginning. After several more scratches I was convinced Amos was a DEEP GAME DOG and so were all other Dogmen in attendance.

Several months later Amos got off chain and killed a 14 month old pick of the litter son of Gr. Ch. Banjo and then went to work on another dog after he ate the banjo dog. A Game Cannibal. We were notified of a 1x winner in our area who would be coming out for his second and were able to get a deal struck.

Amos took well to the keep once again and was ready to fight his own shadow by the end of his keep. I knew he was ready. Amos had a rough time for about the first 25 min. of the match. He was running hot due to a stupid mistake I had made but I was certain he would scratch as long as he was physically able. After about 35 to 40 min. Amos had evened it out and by 50 he had done deep damage to the gut and testicle area. At 53 min. Amos's opponent was unable to make his scratch. Amos completed a courtesy scratch and was now an official 1x winner.

I had never intended on selling Amos however personal circumstances dictated that I sell a few good ones.

Tim of Combat Elite Kennels (present owner of Ch. Amos Moses): I was in the market to buy a well bred match dog along the Redboy/ Jocko - May Day bloodlines and was extremely lucky to find Amos. I first contacted Red Head through the Internet in response to an advertisement he had put up for a 1xw son of Gr. Ch. May Day. He gave me the breeding, back ground, and price of the dog and it all sounded great. As I was on the other side of the world and had only been in the dogs for a short time I asked my good friends at STP to help me and check out the background of Amos and the details of his match. They made some inquiries and everything checked out. I then went ahead and purchased Amos.

Amos was shipped from Texas to New Jersey and spent the next 3 months at STP's yard until I could find someone to bring him over to Thailand for me. Eventually, Amos came here via San Francisco with a business colleague. After a long 3 months of anxious waiting I finally met Amos at the airport and couldn't wait to get him home. He was all I expected and more.

Amos fitted right in at home and soon became part of our family. We decided to wait until he got acclimatized before we started looking for his next opponent. After 3 months we were confident that he was ready and decided to start looking for an opponent at his weight. We looked all across the country and spoke to all of the established Dogmen but could find nothing. Eventually, we were contacted by a Dogman from the south of Thailand that I had met previously and discussed this weight with. We came to an agreement and the match was set.

It was my first time to condition a dog and I was very lucky to be guided by both STP and Red Head who had already put Amos through 2 keeps and knew him the best. We had a few problems through the keep due to not being properly prepared and not having the proper equipment. But there was no lack of effort and hard work. I knew Amos wasn't at his full potential but we did the best with what we had.

Our opponents traveled from the south and the day of the match arrived. We had never seen Amos in action before but we were confident in the word of Redhead and the others that had seen him go. Both dogs weighed in right on the limit and it was on. Eric was a very strong, hard biting chest dog that had Amos on the back foot right from the start. Amos did not fair to well and was on three legs in less than 20 min. Eric had done some serious damage to his chest and shoulders. Amos also started blowing hot about the same time. The match was pretty much one sided for the first 25 min then Amos was able to get a good hold at the back end. He continued to work the back end and turned things around. By 30 min the match was even. Eric turned at 32 min and started the scratching at 37 min. Amos cooled down and continued to work the stifle and stomach area and pulled well ahead. After 3 scratches each Eric was a down dog and picked up at 53 min. Amos had now become a 2x winner.

Now we knew what Amos was made of and decided to give him a long rest after this hard match and try to find the best dog we could go into for his championship. A few months later I went to attend an international convention in the Philippines. It was there that I spoke with Easblock Kennels about hooking Amos into their 2xw Chicane. I had seen Chicane win his first one on a previous trip to the Philippines and thought highly of the dog. He had won 1 off the chain previous to that and another contract match since. He was the best M44 in the Philippines and I had Amos who was the best M44 Thailand. We talked and both agreed that we wanted to go into good winning dogs for to make champion. We just needed to work out the terms and conditions. We left it at that and I returned home with the hope that we could match in the Philippines at the end of the year.

After attending the Philippines convention some local Dogmen and myself decided to hold our own international convention and invite people from across the country and the world to participate. A date was set and the entries started coming in. The Philippines had already confirmed entries for 3 matches and we needed another 2 to make up the show. That is when I heard the owner of Eastblock Kennels was keen to match so we contacted him through a third party in the Philippines. We negotiated the terms and came to an agreement. A contract was made for males at 44.5lb and the forfeits put up.

I wanted to bring Amos in ½lb heavier this time, as he seemed to lack strength in his previous outing and was now over 4 y.o. Chicane was also coming up in weight. This time the keep went very smoothly, with more experience and all of the right equipment and preparation I was able to improve considerably on Amos's last keep. He was in great shape but still had a tendency to run hotter than most. I knew Amos was game and would scratch until he physically couldn't continue. The thing I was worried most about was him running hot.

The big day finally arrived and people had flown in from all over the world for the show. We had guest's representing 10 different countries across the globe and all of the top local Dogmen in attendance. There were entries from the Philippines, USA, Malaysia, and Thailand. Our match was scheduled for No. 3 in the 5-match convention with, living legend Dogman, Scotty Nelson as the referee.

The match got under way and it was evident from the start that Amos was at a disadvantage to his much taller and rangier opponent. This time around Amos was stronger and actually took much of the fight to his opponent. Chicane was a smart dog and nullified all of Amos's efforts by staying on the muzzle and head and going to the front legs when the opportunity presented. As expected Amos ran hot early at about 20 min and was slightly behind for the first 25min but he continued to persist. Things started evening out and I called a turn on Amos at 31min and he began the scratching at 35 min. Amos had now began cooling down and Chicane was starting to tire. Amos was able to get some shoulder holds and eventually went to the back end were he was able to do damage to the stifle and testicle area. Chicane was still putting up a good fight and trying to stay on the nose but the fight now looked firmly in Amos's grasp. They had run 2 scratches each with Chicane hesitating on his second. Amos now dominating the contest ran his 3rd well. It seemed like forever before the final handle could be made. Chicane was up to go for his 3rd at and failed to scratch by the count of 10. Amos was declared the winner at 48 min. and courtesy scratched straight and true.
