We would like to share our new article entitle ‘Detection of Giardia duodenalis zoonotic assemblages AI and BIV in pet prairie dogs in Bangkok, Thailand’. The Open Access. https://www.mdpi.com/2076-2615/12/15/1949/htm

In this report, there were zoonotic assemblages of A1 and B4 of the flagellate Protozoa known as Giardia duodenalis found in two pet prairie dogs.

In general, G. muris and G. microti can be found in prairie dogs. However, we found G. duodenalis, the zoonotic species. Possibly, Pet prairie dogs might received G. duodenalis from human sources or being a reservoir host.

Prevention of G. duodenalis, the zoonotic food and water-borne parasite transmission from/ to their pets via good sanitation and better food and water hygiene practice should be promote to exotic pet owners.

Giardia is a flagellate protozoa that can be transmitted via direct contact and by consuming contaminated water. It is pathogenic in humans and various other animals, including exotic pets.
