About Blue Lagoon and the local area

Cha Am is situated about 150 km to the South West of Bangkok. Because of its close proximity to the capital a lot of Thais visit the resort, especially at weekends. The main attraction is the famous 5km long golden beach, said to be the longest in Thailand. Although even at weekends, there’s plenty of space to relax and swim in relative privacy. Unlike other

tourist resorts in Thailand, the locals and the resident ex-pat community in Cha Am are well integrated. A good proportion of the “farang” community speak Thai, and a good proportion of the Thais speak English. Visiting Cha Am is more like visiting the real Thailand, life here is much more traditional Thai. Many Europeans spend 6 months of the year here and 6 months in Europe. Cha Am is quaint and quiet and things tend to happen more slowly here. Despite being slow, life seems to pass very quickly! Cha Am is an easy place to fall in love with, and visitors return time and time again. Cha Am is smaller and quieter than other resorts, although Hua Hin, with shopping centres and busy streets is only 25 KM and a 30 Baht bus ride away. That’s not to say there isn’t anything to do here. The beach of course is second to none, with jet skis and banana boats available. Visit the fishing village at the breakwater on the north portion of the beach, or the bustling Wednesday night market. Sea food is obviously a speciality, but because of the European influence Western food is easy to find. There are bars and nightclubs as well, but these are centred in two small areas. It’s possible to find these places but they are also easy to miss if you prefer. This makes Cha Am a great place for families to visit too. Because of the high proportion of Thai visitors prices are kept in check, and tourists can be surer they are paying the going rate. The local council in Cha Am is very active in supporting the town and most weekends something is happening on the beach, ranging from festivals, live weekend concerts, jet-ski competitions, kite flying, bikini racing! Hand craft and night markets often occupy the main Soi in evenings. The council also work very hard in keeping the area clean, tidy and attractive. The area is a golfer’s paradise with up to 10 international standard courses nearby, and trips can be arranged. For those more active visitors Cha Am has a thriving Hash House Harriers club, (a drinking club with a running problem) they, along with their sister Hash from Hua Hin meet every Saturday for a jaunt into the local countryside, a little exercise, and a few refreshments. Santorini Adventure Park lies 5km to the North; this park features a big wheel, bungee jumps and other attractions for the whole family. A large array of factory outlets lies close to the park. These include Boss, La Coste, puma, etc. To the South, about 12km, Black Mountain Water Park has recently opened. This is a real fun day for all the family. Water slides, swimming and even water skiing. Make sure to take your sun cream with you. See our links section for more info on these and other attractions. Blue Lagoon Guesthouse and bar is situated in a lively Soi about 200m from the centre of the beach, and approx. 1.7km from railway station. The Soi is closed at one end so doesn’t get a lot of traffic. A couple of new venues as well as ours are opening soon, as the Soi undergoes a refurbishment. The Soi mainly features bars and guesthouses with the odd restaurant and Thai massage facility. Blue Lagoon enjoys a prime site in the Soi and does not suffer from noise from other venues. Our live and recorded music is turned down at midnight so our guests can enjoy a good night’s sleep. This Soi isn’t really suitable for children due to the late night entertainment. During the day we are happy to see families enjoying a snack with us accompanied by freshly ground coffee. Blue Lagoon is fully integrated in to the Bar scene of Cha Am. We host darts teams on Tuesday and Wednesdays evenings in the local leagues, as well as holding a darts competition every Friday evening. We also have pool teams in the local league on a Thursday evening. Saturday and Sunday we show sports from around the world, be it rugby from Aus. /NZ in the mornings to English Premier League football and F1 Grand Prix in the evenings. Monday we host a thriving quiz night. Parking is limited at the Guesthouse so prior booking is recommended. You can lease a motorbike from us on a daily or long term basis; we can arrange taxis, or a “pick up” service from Bangkok Airport. Laundry services are available within a short walking distance, if you just want it washed we can do it.. Pets aren’t normally welcome as we have our own, however this may be possible. Check out our website places section for further detail on the area. Our links section provides access to other possibly useful or interesting sites. This website is still under development and will change and evolve as time goes on. I hope this introduction, website and links has been useful to you and helped you decide if our guesthouse is suitable for stay in Cha Am. If not, thank you for visiting our site and I hope that if you are in the area you will call in and say hello. Thank You. Stu
