A tired dog is not a good dog. How do you feel when you're tired??? Not your best self? Neither is your dog.

All too often we hear the phrase "a tired dog is a good dog", but that is a misconception that needs to stop. When you're tired, you're potentially grumpy, unable to process new things, easy to anger, easily frustrated, unable to do your normal activities as well as normal..... you're tired.

Well- when your dog is tired, they're showing the behaviours listed in the poster and so much more because they're what- TIRED.

Exercise, will not solve your dog's behavioural concerns, in fact it will often increase them. Why?? Physical exercise does not change emotions for triggers- it worsens them as the dog is unable to process their emotions like they can when they're not tired. It also doesn't change your dog's associations for the triggers again- it'll more than likely worsen them, as then your dog isn't their best selves when encountering the trigger, which then worsens their negative associations towards the trigger.

Exercise is fantastic, but like all things, you need to build your dog up gradually over time for exercise. Not take a puppy out for a random 3hr hike or intense jog -which would definitely hurt their growing joints, potentially causing lifelong physical damage and increase overarousal/mouthing behaviours!

A tired dog is not a good dog- it is a frustrated, exhausted, overaroused, overstimulated, reactive, - it is a dog whose emotional needs are not being met.

What is good -as all dogs are great? Meeting your dog's emotional needs.

Contact WFA to learn more about our group classes, in-person or virtual 1-1 classes, to learn how you can meet your dog's emotional needs.

My go-to for cleaning my dogs' teeth for many years.
The dogs love it, it cleans their teeth, provides some extra healthy nutrients and keeps them satisfied for a while.

However!!! It is advisable not to give bones too often as too much bones can caused (severe) constipation.
Once a week one marrow bone is enough for keeping teeth clean.
And be careful, when giving bones in multiple dog house-holds, that the dogs will not fight over the bones.

What are doing for your pet’s teeth?🪥🦷

If you think feeding a certain diet will clean your pet’s teeth, think again, according to recent studies, almost 90% of dogs🐶 will have developed some form of periodontal disease by 2 years of age. What’s worse, dental disease has been linked to heart🫀, kidney and liver disease in dogs!

For most, trying to brush your dog’s teeth is a nightmare! However, new surprising science has our backs! A recent peer-reviewed study found dogs who chewed on specific pieces of bones🦴 had almost 90% of tartar buildup removed and the bones did not cause any root fracture, enamel fracture, or bone resorption. The study concluded pet parents should be using specific bones for their pet’s regular oral hygiene.

However, before you run out to go purchase a bag of teeth cleaning bones, realize there are DEFINITELY rules for purchasing the right bone for your dog! In the “Raw Bone Rules” section of our upcoming book, The Forever Dog, we not only highlight the new scientific benefits of giving your dog raw bones but we also cover all the steps in selecting the right bone for your canine companion. P.S. - Our new book is now available for pre-order worldwide! www.foreverdog.com

UPDATE: I found a flight volunteer. Yoohoo!
A big THANK YOU!!! to those who shared and gave encouragement. Universe listened. 🙏🙏🙏😊

Hi Y’all,Looking for a flight volunteer for my little Beagle, Simba.

In February this year I was notified that my dad had entered the final stage of kidney- and heart-failure. Arranged a care-taker for the animals and a flight home. Due to Covid that was postponed, twice, then canceled. And the clock kept ticking and my nerves raging.
Finally, decision made: biz on hold, forced rehoming of my animals (but 1) and move in with my dad to take care him till the end. I’m very glad I made that decision, but it sure came with a high cost.
Because of the sudden decision I could not bring Simba along immediately due to the Rabies titer test. And now, due to Covid getting her to The Netherlands turns out to be super hard.
I’m already in contact with Action for Dogs, but their rescue partners’ dogs have priority. Already twice her planned trip has been canceled.

So, my question is:
is anyone flying soon to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Dusseldorf or Frankfurt and is willing to bring Simba along? I’m very willing to help out with your ticket fee.

Dogminded

What we value is what we practice.

Punishment culture values power and control. Punishment culture normalizes coercion and tells us that the ends justify the means.

Punishment culture tells us to see the behavior of others as a problem to be fixed and molded to our liking, as quickly as possible and by any means necessary.

But there is another way. We can forego compulsion when we see behavior not as something to be bent to our wills, but to be valued and understood.

We can begin to practice real, humane behavior change when we shift our values.
