🌟 Inspiring the Next Generation: Welcoming Young Learners to GRP! 🌱

We had the joy of hosting a learning field trip for Grade 2 students from Bansamkong Municipal School right here in Phuket, where our Gibbon Rehabilitation Project is located!

These bright young minds had the opportunity to learn about the incredible lives of gibbons—their importance in the ecosystem, their unique behaviors, and the challenges they face in the wild. 🐒✨ Through this visit, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for wildlife and foster a love for conservation among the next generation.

💚 Thank you to Bansamkong Municipal School for joining us and making this day so special. Watching these students engage with curiosity and excitement reminds us why we do what we do.

Education is the key to building a future where wildlife and people can thrive together. We’re honored to play a part in that journey!

🌿 Post-Release Monitoring Surprise: Cop’s Family Now Has 7 Members! 🌿

This International Gibbon Day, we’re thrilled to share a major discovery from our very latest post-release monitoring! 🐒💚

After almost 3 years of not tracking Cop, our team and volunteers, Amy and Kim, set off into the forest to check in on her. What we found was incredible—Cop’s family has grown to seven members!

Cop’s journey started when she was rescued from an illegal pet trade by the police and then we paired her with John, a male gibbon abandoned in a cage outside the forest. Together, they had their first daughter, Sherpa, and in 2012, we released this family into the wild.

A year later, Cop disappeared, and we feared the worst—until she reappeared a couple of years later with a new partner, Newbie, who was born in the wild from Dao and Payu, gibbon's pair we had released back in 2003. Since then, Cop and Newbie have had three more babies: Veera (2016), Durian (2018), and another baby in 2020, though sadly she didn’t survive. In 2021, Cop gave birth again, and during this very recent survey, we discovered two additional newborns!

But the discoveries didn’t end there.

We used to believe that gibbon mothers would give birth every 2-3 years, but Cop and other of our released gibbons have shown us something extraordinary; after their third baby, gibbon mothers seem to give birth every year !

We believe this could be due to the increased experience of motherhood and the freedom that comes with living in the wild. With the space and resources to nurture their families, experienced mothers like Cop may be able to care for more babies more quickly.

This discovery not only highlights Cop’s strength as a mother but also opens up exciting possibilities for the growth of wild gibbon populations.

This International Gibbon Day, we celebrate Cop’s incredible journey, the expanding gibbon families in the wild, and the importance of giving gibbons the freedom to thrive. A huge thanks to our team, volunteers, and supporters for making this possible. 🌿💚

🌧️ A Stormy Night Brings Damage Again: We Need Your Help to Rebuild! 🌧️

A couple of nights ago, a major storm hit our rehabilitation center again, causing a large tree to fall and seriously damage two of our gibbon enclosures. To make matters worse, the storm also destroyed our enclosure drainage system, adding to the challenge. 💔 The enclosure floors have been heavily impacted, and without a working drainage system, the situation does not look well.

We are incredibly grateful for the fast and tireless efforts of our wonderful volunteers—Amy, Kim, Benjamin, Marines, and the forest park rangers—who have been working hard to clear the fallen tree and clean up the area. We couldn’t have managed the immediate aftermath without you, and the gibbons are safer because of your dedication. 💚

However, the task is far from finished. The damaged enclosures and destroyed drainage system require repairs to ensure the safety, hygiene, and well-being of our gibbons. 🐒

This is where we need your help. Every donation, no matter the amount, will go toward rebuilding the enclosures and fixing the drainage system, ensuring the gibbons can continue their path toward a healthy, safe, and free future.

Please consider donating to help us restore these crucial parts of the rehabilitation center.

🌍 Community Outreach at the International School of Phuket 🌍

We were grateful to have been invited by the International School of Phuket (ISP) to participate in their International Fair in honor of World Animal Day! 🙌

The was so kind to offer us a free fundraising booth, giving us an amazing opportunity to raise awareness and funds—not just with students and parents, but also the wider Rawai community in the southern part of Phuket. 🌿

Connecting with the community is key to ensuring a future where gibbons can live free in the wild. By working together, we are taking steps toward that goal, and we are so thankful for all the support we received at this event. 💚🐒

A special thank you to ISP and our dedicated volunteers—Chess, Den, Amy, and Kim—for making last week a success. Your hard work and passion for the gibbons are truly appreciated!

🌿 A Special Day at the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project 🌿

What may seem like a normal day to some is a truly special one for us —our incredible volunteers make a world of difference.

Today, we had the joy of welcoming not just our regular volunteer team but also our amazing volunteer parents, a big fan club, a great supporter who dove right in to help us in our mission.

Every small action brings us closer to our new bigger challenge : to turn gibbons who once seemed like permanent residents into future candidates for release. 🐒✨

It’s a massive undertaking, and with new breakthrough ideas, we’re working tirelessly to make it happen. There’s a long list of tasks ahead, but with hearts like those of Jen, Kolin, Tracy, Lori, Lucy, Chase, Den, Amy, and Kim, we’re filled with hope.

Thank you all for your dedication and love. You’re not just volunteers—you’re now a part of our family, pushing forward to ensure these gibbons get the freedom they deserve.

Together, we’re creating a future where every gibbon can thrive in the wild. 💚

🐒Gibbon Meets Slow Loris! A curious encounter 🐒🦥

In this special moment captured in Khao Phrateaw Forest, the last remaining rainforest of Phuket, a gibbon and a slow loris curiously observe each other in the trees. 🌳 Normally, slow lorises are nocturnal, but today, their curiosity got the best of them, bringing them face-to-face in daylight!

Khao Phrateaw has been a crucial release site by our team for many species, including in the photo gibbons and slow lorises. But we also released many others species like leopard cats, spiny turtles, and many more! 🐒🦥🐢🐆

This encounter reminds us of the diversity and beauty within this precious forest, which continues to thrive thanks to ongoing conservation efforts and help from many volunteers.

Protecting places like Khao Phrateaw is essential for ensuring that these species have a safe home for generations to come. Stay tuned for more wild encounters and success stories from the forest!

🐒 **"I'm Jealous, I'm Not Gonna Give My Mom to You!"** 🐒

In this adorable moment, big brother is making sure his new little sister knows who came first!

After venturing out on his own, this 3-year-old gibbon decided to come back and cling tightly to his mom the moment his baby sister arrived. Now, he’s not letting go and seems to be saying, **"I’m not giving up my mom to you!"** 💚🐒

This rare behavior highlights the strong family bonds and even a bit of playful jealousy between siblings in the wild. It’s an amazing glimpse into the emotional world of gibbons.

Mom doesn’t seem to mind at all, carrying both her kids with love! 🌿💕

Another finally freedom of love in the wild.

🐒 Meet Fahsai: A Wild-Born Explorer!🐒

This is "Fahsai" the second son of Arun and Toffee, born in the wild in 2018. In this photo, you can see him curiously searching for food in a squirrel's nest—his wild instincts at work! 🌿🐿️

Fahsai is part of a thriving family with six children, all born in the wild. His dad, Arun, was born in our rehabilitation center and later released into the wild with his parents. Arun later found love with Toffee, who was born in the wild in 2006 to Kip and Joe, two gibbons we released long ago. 🐒💚

Fahsai’s bigger brother, Phrateaw, named after this last remaining rainforest of Phuket, has already left the family to start his own adventure, searching for his soulmate. Seeing these gibbons grow and begin their own journeys is a reminder of the power of reintroduction and how gibbons can thrive in the wild.

This forest was once silent, as gibbons were poached to extinction for many decades to meet the demands of the tourism industry. But now, the forest is filled with the songs of these amazing apes—known in Thailand as the "Queen of the Forest." 🌳🎶

The Gibbon Rehabilitation Project (GRP) is now working with the government to soon upgrade this forest to become Thailand’s next Biosphere Reserve Forest, a major step toward ensuring the long-term protection of this vital habitat. The return of gibbons to this forest is a powerful testament to the success of conservation and reintroduction efforts.

Thank you for all your supports.

🚨 **Urgent Gibbon Rescue: A Life-Saving Operation** 🚨

We recently responded to an urgent report from a local in Northern Thailand, where an injured gibbon was found lying on the forest floor. Our rescue team rushed to her aid, but tragically, it had already been some time before she was discovered, and her case was already extremely severe. 💔

Despite our best efforts, her injuries were so extensive that we had no choice but to amputate one of her legs to save her life. It’s still unclear whether she was attacked by another wild animal or possibly even another gibbon. The bite wounds on her leg had become infected, making the situation critical by the time we reached her.

She is now receiving intensive care, and our vet team is working on a plan to help her recover and adapt to this major life change. While the road ahead will be difficult, we are fully committed to giving her the best chance at a healthy, happy life. 🐒💚

Your support means everything to us and the gibbons.

🌟 Exciting News! A New Baby Gibbon !🌟

We are absolutely thrilled to share the arrival of a healthy baby boy born to our beloved Pileated gibbons, Nuan P. and Guinness! 🍼🐒

In the video, you can witness the touching moment when Nuan P. lovingly cleans her newborn, still attached to the umbilical cord and placenta.

She later consumes the placenta to helps her retain vital nutrients lost during pregnancy and birth, aids in pain relief, and strengthens the bond between mother and baby. Also this serves as an important role in protecting her baby by removing any traces that could attract predators or insects.

This moment is even more precious after the sadness we felt a couple of years ago when Nuan P. and Guinness lost their first baby. After that heartbreak, seeing Nuan P. now as a caring mother fills us with so much hope and joy.

Nuan P., rescued from life as a pet in Bangkok. Over the years, she was paired with several gibbons, but none of the pairings were successful—until she met Guinness. Although their bond was slow to form, their connection recently grew stronger. Guinness became much more of a gentlemen, letting Nuan P. eat first - a sweet gesture that hinted at her pregnancy and showed how much their bond had deepened.

Now, with the birth of their second baby, this growing family is one more step closer to freedom. Every birth brings us closer to reintroducing these beautiful creatures into the wild, where they belong. It's a step forward not just for this family, but for the entire endangered Pileated gibbon population.💚

Thank you for your unwavering support—it’s because of you that moments like this are possible!

🌳 Despite the Challenges, Our Mission for Gibbon Freedom Continues! 🌳

The past weeks have tested us with heavy rains, fallen trees, and urgent repairs needed for our kitchen. 🌧️🌲 Yet, even in the face of these challenges, we remain steadfast in our primary mission: gibbon freedom.

Today, we're thrilled to announce a groundbreaking new effort—our fourth release site in Thailand! 🌿

After over 10 years of thorough forest surveys and data collection, we’ve discovered a critical situation: there is only 1 last wild male gibbon left in this forest. This release isn't just about freedom; it’s about repopulation and giving hope to a species on the brink.

Annie, our brave 29-year-old female white-handed gibbon, is stepping up for this extraordinary mission. 🙌 She was once kept as a pet and faced a troubled past. Despite many failed pairing attempts and the heartbreak of losing her one successful partner, Annie is now ready for a new chapter.

This time, we’ll be applying a whole new technique that combines freedom and the chance to rebuild the gibbon population in this forest.

This journey is about much more than just releasing gibbons—it's about restoring balance to nature and ensuring that these incredible creatures continue to thrive in their rightful home. 🌳💚

We couldn't continue this mission without your support. Stay tuned for more updates on Annie's journey and our new release site. Together, we can make a lasting impact on gibbon conservation in Thailand. 🐒✨

We still need your help to rebuild our new gibbon kitchen. Please donate here:

🚨 **Urgent Action Needed: Help Us Build a New Gibbon Kitchen!** 🚨

Our gibbon kitchen is **on the verge of collapse**, and we need your help NOW!

🌧️ Recent heavy rains have caused the land to slide downhill, leaving our kitchen with cracks in the floor, a caving roof, and an unstable foundation. For the safety of our staff, we must move meal preparation to another location starting tomorrow—but this is only a temporary fix.

**We urgently need to raise fund to build a new, safe kitchen where we can continue preparing nutritious meals for our beloved gibbons.

The fund will help cover:

🔹 **Relocating and constructing** a new kitchen in a safer location
🔹 **Rebuilding the water treatment system** to protect the environment
🔹 **Covering labor and material costs** since heavy machinery can't be used in this protected area
🔹 **Reinforcing the foundation** damaged by the landslide
🔹 **Purchasing new kitchen equipment**

**⏰ We need your help RIGHT NOW.** Without this kitchen, our gibbons' well-being is at risk. They depend on us—and we depend on you. 💚

**👉 Take Action Today:**
1️⃣ **Donate** – Every contribution, big or small, brings us one step closer to building a safe kitchen.

2️⃣ **Share** – Spread the word and help us reach more people who care about gibbons.

Together, we can secure a safe future for our gibbons. 🙏 Let's make sure they continue to receive the care and nutrition they need.

A big thank you to all amazing volunteers yesterday: Kolin, our long-term volunteer, Aaron, Ally, and Den, who joined us for the first time, and Paco, helping us out for the second time. Special thanks to UWC student volunteer leaders Snow and Tenzin, along with their fantastic team members Salina, Martina, Dhika, Sophia, Javier, and Lydia. And, of course, a huge thanks to Jen for organizing and finding volunteers to help us yesterday

They worked tirelessly the entire morning to help us cleared many fallen trees over gibbon enclosures. Unfortunately, we had to stop as heavy rain started again at midday.

But we are continue clearing again today for our gibbons : )
