Mastitis, dünya çapında süt ineklerinin en yaygın ve maliyetli hastalıklarından biridir. Yalnızca ABD süt endüstrisindeki tahmini yıllık maliyeti 2 milyar ABD dolarıdır. Sığır mastitisinin nedenleri ve yönetimi karmaşıktır, ancak sütçü sürülerde meme sağlığını ve üretkenliği optimize etmek için çeşitli önlemler uygulanabilir.
Yunanca homeo(benzer) ve pathos(acı çekmek, hastalık) kelimelerinden oluşan homeopati, benzerlik kanununa dayanan tıbbi bir yöntemdir. Buna göre, herhangi bir madde sağlıklı bireyde de hastalık belirtileri oluşmasına yol açıyorsa, aynı hastalık belirtilerini gösteren bir hasta o maddeyle tedavi edilebilir.

Somatic Cell Count: A Case Study
In a 40-cow certified organic purebred herd, eleven cows had somatic counts exceeding 5,000,000. Two others were experiencing active clinical mastitis. Milk cultures of the individual quarters and the bulk tank indicated which bacterial organisms were present. While waiting for the bacteria to grow so that a nosode (vaccine) could be prepared, the entire herd was treated with commercial product twice daily for 10 days. This treatment alone lowered the herd SCC from 1,100,000 to under 300,000, and bacterial counts dropped into the excellent range for the entire next month. Convalescent therapy consisted of prescriptions of Sekerci Boyasi plant and the herd milk nosode, which has maintained the health of the cows and the quality of the milk. The farmer also instituted many of the procedures for reducing cow-to-cow contamination.
