💧 July is Pet Hydration Awareness Month! 💧

At Vet Express Veterinary Clinic, we’re reminding all pet parents: hydration = health!

🚰 Pets need fresh, clean water every day — especially during the hot months.
🐶 Signs of dehydration: dry gums, lethargy, sunken eyes, and reduced skin elasticity.
🐱 Cats are especially prone to low water intake — consider fountains or wet food!

✅ Tip: Always bring water on walks, and never leave pets in hot cars.

Keep your pets cool, hydrated, and healthy — we're here to help if you notice any signs of heat stress or dehydration!

💧July is Pet Hydration Awareness Month!

This month, we’re raising awareness about the importance of proper hydration for dogs, cats, and all our beloved animal friends.

Just like humans, pets need plenty of water to stay healthy, especially during the hot JAVA months. Dehydration in pets can lead to serious health issues but with a little awareness and care, it's easy to keep tails wagging and whiskers happy all season long.

While fresh water is always essential, Purina wet food contains up to 70-80% moisture, giving your pet an extra boost of hydration with every meal. This can be especially beneficial for:
* Cats, who naturally have a lower thirst drive
* Senior pets or those with kidney or urinary issues
* Hot weather days, when dehydration risks increase

Stay tuned for tips, tricks, and refreshing ideas to help your pets beat the heat!

If your pet has been having consistent skin issues, your vet may do a skin scrape test.

Skin scrapes involve taking a sample of skin cells to examine under a microscope to assist in diagnosing with the type of skin issues that your pet may be experiencing (eg inflammation, fungal infections or mites).

This will then help your veterinarian to plan a customised treatment plan for your pet.

While gingivitis refers to the inflammation of the gums, stomatitis refers to a more generalized inflammation of the mucous membranes within the mouth.

It may involve the gums, tongue, inner surfaces of the lips, and/or the floor and roof of the mouth. In some cases, it can even extend down the throat. There is no known cause for stomatitis.

The most obvious signs of stomatitis include:

🔻extreme pain when eating, and subsequent change in eating habits/decreased appetite
🔻weight loss/malnourishment
🔻oral bleeding
🔻bad breath
🔻excessive drooling
🔻less grooming

Does it sound like you pet has any of those symptoms? Give us a call at 221-2257 or 465-8036 to find out how we can help!

🟤Symptoms can include:
vomiting

lethargy
swellling/obvious bulge

🟤Not all hernias may be life-threatening, but all hernias should be checked by a veterinarian.

If you ever see your cat struggling to use their litterbox, you need to get them to a vet as soon as possible!

Whenever something stops the flow of urine, it means trouble is coming - and fast!

When the flow of urine is stopped, waste products in the urine can begin to build up quickly. This can result in the cat's urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the litterbox) becoming "blocked".
