New arrivals for the furbabies just in time for Christmas 🎄 🐕 🐈 🎅

‼️‼️

‼️‼️

Here is a reminder of the contact numbers to call if one encounters a stranded marine mammal in Trinidad and Tobago. Please allow trained first responders to intervene. Though well-meaning, there are times when our intervention could prove more detrimental to these animals, since ill marine mammals are predisposed to drowning. Remember, they are mammals, not fish. They have lungs and they breathe atmospheric air. Therefore, they must be able to coordinate their body movements in order to surface to breathe before submerging again. Since ill marine mammals are often unable to do so, taking them back out into deep water without having been first examined by trained veterinary medical personnel or persons specifically trained to perform health assessments on these animals, could prove deadly. Further, ill marine mammals may be harbouring infectious organisms that may have the potential to be detrimental to humans and other animals. The public is therefore urged to avoid handling and/or consuming marine mammals that wash ashore, as this may pose a significant public health risk. The public is also reminded that marine mammals are protected locally under the Conservation of Wildlife Act of Trinidad and Tobago. Interacting with or handling these animals without a permit issued by the relevant authorities is an offense punishable by law.

We implore you to invest in a carrier if you own a cat.

Do not depend on the vet to provide one to transport from your vehicle into the office since the vet's carrier will have unfamiliar smells that can make your cat more stressed before the visit even begins.

If a cat is properly acclimatized to his/her carrier, it becomes a welcomed safe space to wait until being seen, and to bolt back into after treatment is completed.

Let's work together to make our cats comfortable and hence more compliant with a trip to the vet's office.

It's admittedly VERY hard to confine a cat and restrict his/her movements after surgery, but it's crucial for a safe and short recovery time.

Complications from allowing a cat to move freely after surgery can be life threatening.

Make sure to follow your vet's instructions for all post-op medications as well.

Sacrifice for a few days and you will be sure to have a healthy, happy, properly healed feline in no time.

Introducing a new kitten to a cat home can be stressful for owners and cats alike if the process is rushed or forced.

Here are some useful tips from www.cats.org.uk to keep your furbabies comfortable and happy.

Keep in mind that even when they accept each other, not all cats who share a home will go on to snuggle together. The important thing to remember is to respect the relationship that they develop themselves.

11/11/2022

An unvaccinated puppy is always much more seriously affected than a vaccinated puppy when they become ill. One of the most common diseases that he/she can face is Parvo. It's a devastating type of gastroenteritis that can actually be life threatening, even with proper treatment! Your strongest defense is always vaccination!
Besides saving your pup's life, vaccination is much cheaper than medical care for a sick puppy!

One vaccination is not enough to protect your pup, so you must be committed to several visits, starting from 6 weeks of age. Talk to your vet if your schedule is busy and you're concerned about the commitment since it's possible to tailor visits to your needs.

Prevention is always better than cure. We wish our sick furbabies a speedy recovery.
