Highlighting local books :)

This is a story about Zoë, a brave little puppy, who is beyond excited for her very first Independence Day! She dreams of juicy hot dogs, sizzling burgers, and maybe even a few tasty scraps falling her way. But the real highlight? The dazzling fireworks show everyone keeps talking about! She can’t wait to see the sky light up with color—until the first BOOM echoes through the air. Neither Zoë nor her mommy were prepared for just how loud and scary those fireworks would be…

Indoor Dog Owners…

Stop scrolling and read this 👇

This is the goal when having an indoor dog.

Here’s what was going on when my son took this photo:

👉 I was in the middle of my webinar

👉 My wife and son are moving around in the living room

👉 My GSD Heidi can also hear the people in the webinar

Yet, here she is completely calm, taking a snooze.

Because she has learnt that when I sit in front of the ring light, I’m working.

Heidi knows that when I’m working, she needs to switch off and do her own stuff or take a nap.

✅ She’s not bothering me for attention

✅ She’s not distrusting me

✅ She’s not making noise

✅ She’s patiently waiting for me to be finished

This is the goal you should strive to achieve.

When you achieve this, having your dog indoors becomes a pleasure.

Instead of a stressful nightmare.

♻️ Share this with other indoor dog owners so they can benefit from this insight!

Animal rights activist Elspeth Duncan celebrates donations to the Trinidad and Tobago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (TTSPCA), Port of Spain, in “Answered prayers for the animals”.

“It is heartening to see the support being given in an area (animal rescue/welfare) that has long felt ignored, especially on such a large and public scale. What feels like sudden recognition and reward for/on behalf of the animals has taken the local animal welfare world by surprise (pleasantly so) and has bolstered hopes that one day things will change.”

🐾 Thank You to The Angostura Foundation! 🐾

We are incredibly grateful to The Angostura Foundation for their generous support of animal welfare in Trinidad and Tobago. 💛

This year, the Foundation chose to uplift animal welfare charities, including TTSPCA and AWN, not only supporting our vital work, but also helping us fund a series of educational videos with the creative help of RemBunction for a Joint TTSPCA and AWN Secondary School Education Programme that will be delivered across the country. 🎥📚

🌟 In 2024 alone, AWN's Primary School Education Programme reached over 12,000 students, teaching them about caring for pets, dog safety, wildlife, and farm animals.

We are honored to have been selected as one of the beneficiaries of their Paws in the Savannah event. 🐶🌿

Together, we’re shaping a kinder, more compassionate future for animals in T&T. 🐾🇹🇹

🧡 Meet Dr Gowri Yale – Champion for Rabies Elimination

Dr Gowri Yale is a veterinarian from India with a commitment to improving the health of both animals and people through preventive approaches.

🐶 Her recent session at the - A Barking Dog Never Bites, a Baited Dog Never Dies – of Rabies! - explored how oral rabies vaccines are a practical and compassionate tool for controlling rabies in free-roaming dog populations, particularly in endemic countries. Her fascinating presentation clearly demonstrated why these vaccines are an essential addition to our toolkit for achieving the global goal of zero rabies deaths.

🌟 Gowri’s passion for animal welfare was instilled from a young age by her mother, who taught her the importance of kindness toward both people and animals. This guided her decision to become a veterinarian and to speak for animals without owners. A chance encounter with the issue of rabies during her PhD sparked what has since become her lifelong mission: to eliminate deaths caused by this entirely preventable disease.

Now based in France as the Global Rabies Programme Manager at Ceva Santé Animale, Gowri leads the company’s work on oral rabies vaccines for dogs and wildlife.

🚲 Outside of her professional work, Gowri is an avid cyclist and volleyball player: pursuits that help her stay grounded and energised. She also holds a master’s degree in psychology, deepening her understanding of human behaviour. This insight complements her advocacy work, including raising awareness about domestic violence, a cause close to her heart.

Her advice to fellow animal welfare professionals is simple but powerful:

🧡 “Take care of yourselves - your physical and mental health. We need you for the long haul.”
