NFM Among Top 5 in Stock Market Review

National Flour Mills Limited (NFM) was ranked fifth in the lineup of winners on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange (TTSE) following a 2014 to 2024 review. NFM closed 2014 with assets worth $382.3 million, revenues totaling $470 million and delivered a net profit of $19.17 million. Consequently, EPS was 18 cents, and dividends were 6 cents. Fast forward to 2024, as of September last year, NFM commanded assets of $458.4 million, generated 9-month revenues of $386.15 million and earned a net profit of $38.35 million. Notably, EPS registered at 32.49 cents versus 22.04 cents for the comparative 2023 period. Shareholders earned a dividend of 10 cents for fiscal 2023.

NFM maintained a record of profitability over the past ten years, rising above a tide of challenges brought on by the global pandemic, shipping disruptions, unprecedented increases in grain prices and an influx of cheap imported flour.

More recently, despite its declining revenue in 2024 as compared to 2023, the state-controlled manufacturer generated higher gross and net profits on account of its drive for innovation and a more disciplined fiscal agenda.

NFM’s CEO Ian Mitchell explained, “Strong improvements in profitability and better cost management underpinned the company's robust financial performance for the first nine months of 2024. It now costs less to produce, so we have been able to extract more profit. The company is stronger financially, and we intend to sustain revenue growth while maintaining cost efficiencies as we grow the business.” In 2024, NFM self-financed $50 million worth of projects and ended the year debt-free of loans taken in 2022 and 2023.

National Flour Mills, by the close of 2024, added new territories to its regional portfolio, including Anguilla, Dominica, Bonaire and The Bahamas, and began extra-regional pet food exports to Ghana. NFM intends to ramp up efforts for growth and expansion in 2025 with an aggressive focus on exports.

For the Culture: NFM Helps Zebapique’s Kids Shine
Carnival is in the air, and preparations are underway for this year's display of mas across T&T! National Flour Mills has pledged its support to Zebapique Productions children's Carnival Band for its 2025 portrayal 'Yah Ever See.' This year promises to be another masterful creation guided by Band Leader and Committee Chair, Mr. Andrew Alleng. The Petit Valley-based mas camp is seeking to regain the Junior Band of the Year title after placing second in the 2024 competition. NFM recently visited the mas camp for a sneak peek of their presentation. Mr. Alleng explained that Zebapique's involvement in Carnival since 2005 aims to reduce crime by using cultural opportunities to build relationships between communities. This initiative brings underprivileged youths from 24 communities into a collaborative mutual space to experience the joy of Carnival. Zebapique offers its costumes free of charge to their young masqueraders, which this year will be 500-strong. NFM is delighted to join the team of volunteers and other corporate sponsors in helping these youngsters have their turn to shine in T&T's most fabulous cultural celebration. NFM… So much more than flour!

NFM Gains SQF Recertification
Flour milling front-runner National Flour Mills (NFM) is recertified as an SQF-compliant food manufacturer effective January 6, 2025. The Safe Quality Food (SQF) program is the 'gold standard' of food safety and quality certifications, overseen by the US-based SQF Institute.
NFM was endorsed for food manufacturing and quality under the 9th Edition SQF Code, sections 19- Food Ingredient Manufacturing: Dry Mix products, and 22- Processing of Cereal Grains: Flour and Wheat By-products. The company was just four points short of a perfect score in its comprehensive SQF audit conducted last November.
NFM was successfully recertified in two consecutive SQF Audits after first achieving SQF certification in 2022. This consistency demonstrates its ability to sustain food safety and quality standards recognised under the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
As the largest manufacturer of locally produced wheat flour and dry mix products combined, NFM plans to capitalise on its SQF status. The state-controlled company is the region's sole wheat milling and dry-mix production facility to hold SQF certification, giving it a marketing edge for continued growth in 2025.
NFM Quality & Food Safety Manager, Ms. Tisha Ferguson-Phillips, commended the company’s Food Safety Unit for outstanding teamwork and leadership to get the job done. Ms. Phillips also acknowledged the wider team's support for this organization-wide achievement.

All NFM flour is free of Azodicarbonamide (ADA)

National Flour Mills Ltd (NFM) has noted erroneous statements on social media concerning the use of azodicarbonamide (ADA) in the preparation of its Ibis brand flour.

NFM assures customers that it no longer uses ADA in Ibis flour, or in any of its products. In response to consumer concerns, the agent was replaced with a natural food enzyme (with ascorbic acid) as part of the company’s “Clean Label” initiative which NFM is currently pursuing with all brands of flour it produces.

NFM notes that the image of the Ibis Flour 2 kg package shared on Facebook that listed azodicarbonamide among its ingredients, was taken a few years ago, given the “Best Before Date 12 JUN, 18” clearly visible in the photograph, which denotes that the product was produced in 2017, given the 6-month shelf-life for flour.

Clean Label is an industry term that describes foods and beverages that are free from artificial ingredients or synthetic chemicals. Clean label products are made with recognizable ingredients that are free from GMOs and artificial additives and are seen as healthier choices. Products are made with natural and minimally processed ingredients, which can help reduce a company's environmental footprint.
