NFM SUPPORTS LIVESTOCK EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS
National Flour Mills Limited (NFM) continues to support livestock education in schools, helping students explore animal husbandry as a viable career path. Belmont Secondary School is the sixth school to benefit from the Schools Animal Distribution Programme (SADP), receiving animal feed, livestock and ruminants at a joint presentation on August 29, 2024. The Livestock and Livestock Products Board, a Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries subsidiary, launched the SADP in 2023 to encourage youth involvement in agriculture. For this initiative, NFM’s role is to provide feed products and technical support to participating schools. The other partners, Centeno Livestock Station and Sugarcane Feed Centre, contribute farm animals and expertise to help students gain hands-on experience in animal rearing.
NFM regards youth involvement in agriculture as a positive step in building the foundation for food security, and will continue to strengthen its relationships for livestock education in schools and beyond.

National Flour Mills was a proud sponsor of TTMA’s Leadership Discussion & Networking Event at the Hyatt on March 26. Feature speaker, Senator the Hon. Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry, and the distinguished panel of speakers, spoke on the promise and opportunity for a brighter future. The shared view of some of the speakers that constant internal challenges have made the local manufacturing sector extremely innovative and resilient, in large part, is evidenced by the sector’s recovery from the global pandemic. NFM’s performance over the last few years aligns with this perspective. The flour milling leader is progressing to hit the billion-dollar revenue target by 2026. Representing NFM at the event were Nigel Romano, Chairman; Ian Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer; Sati Jagmohan, Corporate Secretary; members of the Executive Management Team; and Managers within the Sales and Marketing Department.

National Flour Mills Limited was recertified as a Safe Quality Food (SQF) manufacturing facility in December 2023. One year following its first SQF Edition 9 certification, the company moved up one percentage point to attain a 95% score. By passing its second consecutive SQF audit, customers are assured of its continued compliance under international SQF food sector categories: "19. Food Ingredient Manufacturing" and "22. NFM Gives Rice Farmers a Boost
National Flour Mills Limited has made good on its commitment to help bolster the rice farming industry by entering into structured agreements to buy rice paddy from local farmers. The farmers received their contracts at a signing ceremony held at NFM’s Rice Mill with the assurance that the company would purchase rice paddy that can be converted into rice for commercial sale. NFM is also offering local farmers cash incentives to plant more high-grade rice.
NFM is optimistic about this new level of engagement for continued cooperation with local rice farmers and the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries. The company’s position in the Rice Value Chain makes it a critical ally for the overall rejuvenation of this sector. By encouraging rice production in Trinidad and Tobago, NFM is promoting local food production to achieve higher levels of food security. NFM's involvement also signals its further support for local employment and the advancement of agricultural practices to increase production yields and improve paddy production costs.
