Welcoming 🤗 this absolutely gorgeous😍 baby, Cupcake 🧁 or fondly called, ‘Cuppy’ 🥺to our fur baby family. We saw this sweet Husky puppy 🐶 for her 3rd vaccine 💉 and deworming 💊

Do you guys agree with us that Cuppy’s EARS ☺️ definitely play a key role in her undeniable cuteness 🥰⁉️ We totally LOVE ❤️ her current mismatched up and down floppers 😆

Using this 3 month old beauty 🤩 as our inspiration, we wanted to help explain the science 🧬 behind whether your pup’s ear 👂 will be erect or not 🤔

All puppies are born with closed, floppy ears. Their ears begin to open around two to two-and-a-half weeks 🗓. The point at which the large flap, called the pinnae, begin to stand differs wildly between breeds and individuals.

The BREED ✅ is the strongest indicator of whether a dog's ears will stand up or not. Puppies 🐕 usually have their ears up by the time they have finished teething 🦷, at about five to six months.

With the right nutrition 🥘, this is about the amount of time it takes for the cartilage to grow strong enough to hold the pinna's weight.

In the case of mixed-breed dogs 🐕, knowing who the parents are will give you the best idea of whether the ears will stand up. If you have a mixed breed dog where both parents have high-set, erect ears, your puppy will likely have erect ears too. However, if one parent has drop ears and one parent has erect ears, the puppy can inherit genes from either parent 🙂

Another good indication is where the ears are placed on the head. Ears set higher up and close together are more wolf-like and more likely to stand 🫢

Supplements 💊 that can help the ear flap strengthen 💪 include those that are generally good for cartilage. This includes gelatine, glucosamine, and Vitamin C 🍊

The cartilage in the ears of a growing pup is fragile and pliable. Avoid excessively patting/handling 👋 your pup's ears, as it can damage the cartilage and keep it from growing straight. Similarly, pups who play too rough or chew 🤭 on each other's ears can also damage the cartilage.

If you are concerned about your pup having one ear up and one ear down, contact us at 755-1256 📱 to make an appointment for us to check for any trauma or inflammation in that ear, which may cause it to droop 😳 House 🏠 calls 🚗 are available ☑️

💭 Do you think both of Cuppy’s ears will stand or will she be one up and one floppy? 😏😎
We just can’t wait to see what happens 🥳

🔔 Important Alert❗️Please SHARE this vital information to spread awareness to pet owners❕

Today was a scorcher 🥵! As many of you guys know, we are currently experiencing a ‘hot spell’ ☀️It was one of the hottest days for the year on our island 🏝 Did you know that on some days, we have been experiencing record temperatures of up to 33- 34 degrees Celsius 😱⁉️However, we’re sure that some of us feel like it’s double those numbers 😩😳

If you felt the heat 🔥, can you imagine how your dog 🐕 or cat 🐈 felt under their fur?

Our gentle giant 😍 Zeke the Shepherd, was definitely feeling it 😮‍💨 and kept cool by sticking close to his fresh bucket 🪣 of cold 🧊 water and laying on the wet tiles!

Here are 6 Useful Tips ℹ️ to Help Keep Pets Cool 😎 during this unbelievable heat:

1. Have Plenty of Fresh, Cold Water 🥶
Available- It’s important to make fresh, cold water available and accessible for your fur baby. If your pet starts panting excessively, get them to the shade and give more water 💧 right away‼️Cool or cold coconut 🥥 water can also be given as an extra treat as it provides our loved 🥰 ones with some essential electrolytes and natural sugars while hydrating them.

2. Play in the Water- A wet pet is a cool pet. Involve some water play—sprinklers, pools for dogs 🐶 or showers 🚿 for our kittens and cats 🐱

3. Avoid ❌ the Midday Heat- Avoid exercising or walking your pets 🐕‍🦺 during 10 am and 4 pm. This time frame 🕰️ of the day tends to offer the highest temperatures 🔆 We advise to go early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s not as hot ✅

4. Remember to check the temperature 🌡 of the pavement before you go. Even on milder days, asphalt can get extremely hot in direct sun 🌞 Try putting your hand on the pavement to test the temperature. You can also pour water 💦 onto the pitch. If it immediately steams up, it’s too hot for your pet ⚠️

5. Never Sit in a Parked Car 🚘 - Don’t leave your pet in a parked car—EVER—even with the windows cracked. Even on milder days, temperatures inside the car can quickly rise to dangerous, life-threatening 🆘 levels.

6. Stay Out of the Dog House 🏡- Dog houses don’t allow for air flow, which makes them dangerous 🚨 in the heat. If you need to keep outside dogs cool, give them plenty of shady areas to lounge in with fresh, cool water on hand. Adding ice to the water bowl can help, too. For cats 🐈, ensure their catio is well aerated and consider adding fans 💨to keep them extra cool!

7. Know the Signs of Heatstroke in Pets which include:
* Excessive 😮‍💨 and/or salivating
* Obvious discomfort 😣
* Vomiting 🤮 and diarrhea 💩
* Disorientation 😵‍💫
* Seizures

If you notice any of the above symptoms, get your pet into a cooler environment as soon as possible and call 📞 your veterinarian for further instructions.

Sending wishes 🌟 and a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹 to our sweet, handsome 😍 and brave boy, Rango!

Have you ever had the traumatising 😥experience of seeing your dog 🐶 bleed from their nose? It can be truly worrying 😖 and is considered a medical emergency 🆘 !

Nosebleeds 👃🩸or epistaxis in dogs 🐩 can be extremely unsettling 😣for fur baby parents. Most or the sudden nosebleeds are caused by simple trauma or by upper respiratory tract infections 🦠 Other causes can be more serious and require immediate treatment 👩🏻‍⚕️

In this case, Rango 🦮, came into office 🏥because of the sudden onset of bleeding from both nostrils 👃 He was examined 🩺 and after a simple blood 🩸 test (done in office, with results as soon as 10 minutes‼️), it was confirmed that this cutie unfortunately 😢 was positive for Ehrlichiosis better known as ‘tick 🕷fever’. This handsome guy will be treated with a strict medical regime including antibiotics 💊 and supportive care.

Thankfully, his mom had updated us that since beginning treatment, there were no more nose bleeds and he was already in better spirits. He is expected to have a smooth recovery ✅ and will have a recheck with us in 2 weeks 📆

If you’ve seen this or other symptoms in your own pet 🐶🐱 that can include (but are not limited to): lethargy😴, anorexia, vomiting🤮, diarrhea💩 (with or without blood), contact us at 755-1256 📲 to have your pet checked up.

Keep in mind, ‘tick fever’ 🥴 can affect cats 🐈 as well 😧

It’s hard to believe 😲 that handsome 😍 baby boy Dash 🥰 who has a serious paw pad injury 😣 is still able to be strong and brave showing off a smiling ☺️ face like that! This poor little one accidentally injured 🤕 his left front paw 🐾 pad after being cut 🩸

Common paw pad injuries include lacerations like Dash’s, punctures and abrasions. If a dog 🐕 steps on glass or other sharp objects, even the toughest paw pad can get cut. Paw pads can also be injured by extreme temperatures 🥵, and it’s not unknown for dogs to experience burned paw pads on very hot days ☀️ In addition, paw pads can be hurt by chemical 🦠 spills on the ground.

Symptoms of paw pad injuries include bleeding 🩸, limping, excessive licking 👅 of the pad, discoloration, and reluctance on your dog’s part to put weight on his or her paw.

In Dash’s case, his mom came home 🏠 to a limping doggy 🐕 with dripping blood 😫, swollen toe and constant licking of his paw 😣😖

Treatment 👩🏻‍⚕️🏨 depends on the extent of the injury sustained but essentially must follow:
1)Cleaning 🧽 the wound
2)Stopping the bleeding
3)Soothing 🧊 burns
4)Vet’s Office!

For Dash, when he arrived in office, the affected area was examined, and it was decided the best option for an injury like his, was surgical correction with stitches. Thankfully 🙏, the nail was fully intact and not affected. This sweet baby was sedated and then placed under gas anaesthesia 😴. Secondly, he was given an injectable pain killer and antibiotic. Lastly, the toe was shaved and then the paw 🐾 pad thoroughly cleansed 🧼 and prepped for stitches 🧵 He received a total of 3 stitches and the affected area was dressed and then a light bandage 🩹 placed. His nails were also cut and filed ✅

To help prevent ❌ paw pad injuries:
-inspect areas where your dog will be playing
-remove all sharp debris and wash away chemical spills
-try to keep your dog 🐶 from walking on extremely hot 🥵 surfaces—grass and earth are almost always cooler!
-when taking your dog out for a walk, watch the ground in front of your dog to avoid any dangerous surprises

Dash left the office with medication 💊 for the next couple days and strict instructions for him to rest the paw! He’s also wearing the infamous ‘cone of shame’ 🤣 to prevent him from biting his stitches or licking the paw! We’re happy to update that he has been doing very well since his visit ☺️😁

🔔 Don’t forget to invest in your pet first aid ⛑ 🩹 kit ($100!) to assist in the treatment of injuries like this at home 🏡 until veterinary treatment can be rendered‼️

Wondering 💭 why this beautiful baby girl, Winnie 😍🥰, is all smiles even though she’s wearing her cone of shame 🫢😄? It’s because her mom made the responsible decision to have her spayed as she knows the numerous health benefits that our pets can earn from it (apart from unwanted ❌ pregnancies)‼️

Have a dog 🐩 or pup 🐶 who was recently spayed? Here is some general info ℹ️ on what spaying entails, how it benefits your female pet and tips on after care for your fur baby!

Ovariohysterectomy, or the typical “spay”: the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus are removed from a female dog 🐕 or cat 🐈‍⬛. This makes her unable ❌ to reproduce and eliminates her heat cycle and breeding instinct-related behavior.

Spaying ✂️ prevents unwanted litters, help protect against some serious health problems, and may reduce many of the behavioral problems associated with the mating instinct.
Removing a female dog or cat’s ovaries eliminates heat cycles and generally reduces the unwanted behaviors that may lead to owner frustration 😖

Early spaying of female dogs and cats can help protect them from some serious health problems later in life such as uterine infections 🦠 and breast cancer‼️

The procedure has no effect on a pet’s intelligence or ability to learn, play, work or hunt. Some pets tend to be better behaved following surgical removal of their ovaries, making them more desirable companions 🥳

Consult your veterinarian 👩🏻‍⚕️ about the most appropriate time to spay your pet based upon her breed, age 📆 and physical condition.

Although your pet may experience some discomfort after surgery, your veterinarian can take measures to control pain including medication 💊

Here are tips for a safe and comfortable recovery:
* Provide your pet with a quiet, comfy place to recover and away from other animals.
* Prevent your pet from running and jumping for up to two weeks following surgery, or as long as your veterinarian recommends.
* Prevent your pet from licking the incision site, which may cause infection, by using a well fitted Elizabethan collar.
* Avoid bathing 🧼 your pet for at least ten days after surgery.
* Check the incision site daily to confirm proper healing.

If you notice any redness, swelling or discharge 🩸 at the surgery site, or if the incision is open, please contact your veterinarian. Also call your veterinarian if your pet is lethargic, has a decreased appetite, is vomiting 🤮 or has diarrhea 💩 or any other concerns following surgery.

Wondering 💭 why this handsome 😍 golden baby boy, Louis is smiling ☺️? It’s because he had great results 📝 for his routine bloodwork🩸today! He visited us for his quarterly checkup 👩🏻‍⚕️🩺 but his paw-rents 🐾 also requested both CBC and Biochemistry to be done to ensure their beloved fur baby is healthy! It’s also extra special because at 3 and half years old, this was his very first blood tests done 🥹☺️

Even if your pet isn’t sick, it’s a good idea to pencil ✏️ in bloodwork to ensure their behavior truly reflects what’s going on in their bodies (especially for our older fur babies). It’s a simple procedure and results are given within the SAME visit from our in office lab 🧪 Convenient, easy and beneficial to your pets 🐕 🐈 !

What Is Pet Blood Work 🤔?
Blood testing for cats and dogs helps the veterinarian diagnose and treat a variety of health conditions. Blood screening is also necessary for the doctor to understand your pet’s health status and monitor the progress of some illnesses.

In addition, routine blood work is part of an effective pet care prevention program to avoid a myriad of diseases 🦠 or catch them early on, when the odds of recovery are likely BETTER.

Why Blood Work Is Important 🚨 for Dogs 🐶 and Cats 🐱:
Blood testing in conjunction with a thorough physical exam allow your veterinarian to determine the best route of treatment 💊 for your pet. Routine blood work typically includes a complete blood count, a.k.a. CBC, and an analysis of the chemical components in your pet’s blood.

A CBC quantifies white blood cells which are responsible for your pet’s immune system, and red blood cells that carry oxygen through your pet’s body. It also measures platelets, which allow your pet’s blood to clot, avoiding hemorrhage. In addition, some blood tests can also identify the presence of parasites like heartworms 🪱

Prevention ❌ is the best treatment. Blood work must be part of your pet’s routine preventive care. The recommendation is to have your pet’s blood work done annually 📅 to ensure the pet’s wellbeing.

Contact us at 755-1256 ☎️ if you’re interested in having your pet examined and bloodwork done ✅ We can also draw blood from your pet at the convenience of your own home 🏡 if you cannot transport your pet or if your pet is anxious for car 🚗 rides!

💭Wondering why you’re seeing this fluorescent green 🟢 color in Narco’s eye 👁️? Let’s explain why!

This cutie’s 🥰 mom noticed 1) he had been producing an increased amount of mucus from his right eye, 2) both upper and lower eyelids were swollen, 3) the cornea seemed to have a blue hazy appearance and he seemed to be squinting more than usual ☹️

The green you’re seeing is actually fluorescein dye that when applied to an eye, any ulcer that may be present on the cornea of the eye retains this dye to show the affected area 😮 See second photo 📸 in this post to better understand how it appears using Narco’s own corneal ulcer as an example.

The cornea is the transparent, shiny membrane that makes up the front of the eyeball.

A corneal ulcer is deeper erosion through the entire epithelium and into the stroma. With a corneal ulcer, fluid accumulates in the stroma, giving a cloudy appearance to the eye.

The most common cause is trauma. An ulcer may result from blunt trauma, such as a dog rubbing its eye on the carpet, or due to a laceration, such as a cat 🐈 scratch or contact with a sharp object.

However there are other diseases 🦠 that may predispose a pet to corneal ulcers that includes keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS or "dye eye") in which decreased ⬇️ tear 💧 production leads to drying of the cornea.

A corneal ulcer is very painful 😖 Most dogs 🐕 rub the affected eye with a paw 🐾 or on the carpet in an attempt to relieve this intense pain 💔

Corneal ulcers are detected 🔎 with the use of special stains such as fluorescein like we used with Narco. A drop of this stain is placed on the cornea. The dye will turn green and adhere to areas of ulceration as seen in the photo 📸

Narco is currently on medication 💊 used to treat the ulcer, prevent ❌ bacterial infections (ophthalmic antibiotic drops) and to relieve spasm and pain.

😮 Wow, what a new, bright and shiny smile 😁on this beautiful 😍 girl, Toddler, has after her dental 🦷 procedure with us 😊

After running a full blood 🩸panel on this 10 year old 🥹 cutie to ensure she was healthy, she was placed under general anaesthesia 😴 and had her procedure done without issue. We were able to meticulously and effectively clean 🧼 all the surfaces of each tooth to remove the plaque calculus with minimal trauma to the area. Each tooth was then polished ✅

Her paw 🐾 rents owner were advised ℹ️ on how to keep up with at home 🏠 dental care and keeping up with routine professional cleaning 👩🏻‍⚕️to keep her teeth as clean and healthy as possible 😄

⚠️ Periodontal disease is inflammation or infection of the gums and is caused by accumulation of dental plaque. Clinical signs of dental disease can include bad breath, loss of appetite, dropping food, excessive drooling, bleeding 🩸 gums, and loose or missing teeth. The dental plaque contains bacteria 🦠 which can cause irritation to the gums. Over time, pets can accumulate more dental plaque and bacteria which could lead to bad breath, bleeding gums, severe infections, pain, and tooth or bone loss.

To prevent ❌ the accumulation of the dental plaque, the teeth need to be cleaned regularly. Dental plaque can accumulate in matter of days; therefore, brushing 🪥 daily is best. If brushing your pet’s teeth is not an option, there are many other products that help delay the progress of dental plaque. These products should be used daily to help reduce the build up of dental plaque. Luckily there are many great products available to owners including brushes and toothpaste, oral rinses and dental treats.

Additionally, even with daily brushing or dental care at home, most pets will eventually require professional dental cleanings. These professional cleanings are very similar to dental cleanings in their human counterparts. However, dogs 🐕 and cats 🐈 need to be anesthetized 😴 to perform a thorough dental cleaning and polishing, dental x-rays, as well as probing the gums to look for evidence of advance disease. The veterinarian can surgically extract any loose or fractured teeth identified during the dental procedure so patients do not have to return for an additional procedure.

If your pet is showing any signs of periodontal disease please schedule an appointment with us today to discuss the next steps to improve your pet’s dental health. Some of the various and effective items that we carry include Veterinary recommended dental chews, gels, pet safe toothpaste and dental wipes that can be purchased and used for dental care at home.

💭 What’s the heaviest or largest dog 🐕 have you ever encountered or interacted with?

Tonight we’re checking in with this HUGE 😮 but gentle guy 🤗, Max the Rottweiler 🐕‍🦺 This cutie 🥰 visited us recently for his ‘snip’ 🤭 The photo 📸 may not capture his true size here, but this 6 year old is a whopping 135 lbs 😳😱

We thought we’d share some helpful info ℹ️ and clarity on the procedure of NEUTERING or CASTRATION ✂️ , including its importance and what exactly is it ✅

Here’s all the basics you need to know 🤩🥳

Neutering, or castration, is the surgical removal of a male dog’s te**es. It’s performed under general anesthesia 😴 and it is a simpler surgery than a spay. An incision is made near the front of the sc***um, then the testicles are removed through that incision.

In addition to reducing roaming in male dogs, neutering can often, though not always, help reduce or eliminate ❌ undesirable behaviors, such as leg-lifting and mounting/humping 🫣Neutering may also decrease aggressive 😡 behavior in some dogs 🐶

Neutering a male dog reduces the chance of testicular cancer and prostate disease 🦠

After their procedure, we will then discuss with you any pain medication 💊 and aftercare for your dog. We also recommended that Max’s activity be restricted 🚫 for a few days while the incision heals. He was also sent home with an E-collar (protective collar) to help keep him from licking the incision 🥺.

If there are no complications or other health issues, patients can usually go home 🏡 on the same day of the procedure.

If you have a pet who you’d like to have neutered, book your appointment with us at 755-1256 📞 or inbox 📥 us!

It’s those adorable puppy eyes 🥺 and the wholesome ‘unaltered’ floppy ears for us 💝😇

Welcoming this cutie 😊, Rebel 😍 to our fur-baby family 🥰 This handsome 9 week old Pitbull pup came in to continue his puppy vaccination 💉 protocol which helps provide protection against nasty diseases such as Parvo 🦠!

Canine Parvo Virus is an extremely contagious and sometimes fatal 😣 diseases that generally affects puppies 🐶 Unvaccinated adults can also be infected.

Dogs 🐕 can get the virus:
-direct contact with stool 💩 of an infected dog
-indirect contact with stool of an infected dog which includes flies! There tends to be an increase in the amount of flies 🪰with both rain ☔️ and in yards with many fruit trees 🌳-including our beloved mango 🥭

Signs 🚨 of Parvo include:
-SEVERE vomiting 🤮 and diarrhea (can be with or without blood, brown with a very offensive odor!)
-dehydration and lethargy
-loss of appetite and rapid weight loss
-death 💀

Treatment 👩🏻‍⚕️🩺 of Parvo aims to treat symptoms and provide supportive care ✅ to the patient as their immune system fights off the virus.
-IV fluids 💧
-cocktail of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medication 💊
-round the clock ⏰ observation

Don’t wait‼️

There is NO CURE for Parvo! Parvo can only be prevented via vaccinations and finishing the appropriate protocol within a specific time frame. If you’d like to have your pup vaccinated, contact us at 755-1256 ☎️

Join us in wishing this paw-some 🤩 and beautiful girl Arya 🥰, a very happy and paw-some 3rd birthday! Ary, today we wish you only the best health and a very long happy life filled unconditional love ❤️🩷💜🤍

Her wonderful paw rents 🐾 ensured she had an awesome day by having a professional photo shoot 📸 just for her, dressing her in a super cute birthday hat 👒 and bow 🎀, gifting her a fun 😁 balloon bouquet 🎈and lots of new toys 🧸, and of course, ending the day with a totally yummy 😋 cake 🎂!

Celebrating your dog’s birthday 🎉🥳 isn’t just an excuse to throw a party or go somewhere special — it’s a fun way to thank your best friend for all his love and loyalty 🥺💕 So don’t just let this year’s big day go by unnoticed. Show your pup 🐕 how important he or she is in your family.

To us dog 🐩 lovers, our pup is no less important than our other family members. Every dog has his day, so commemorate your pup’s big day with special activities you’ll both enjoy.

5 Fun Ways to Celebrate
1. Plan a dog play date 😊
Plan a time when family and friends can bring their pups 🐶 to play. Gather in a fenced-in yard or meet inside for indoor pets. Plan games and be a responsible playdate host by ensuring that water and disposable bags are readily available, that guests bring their own treats 🦴 and that all pet owners are aware of each other’s pet’s health issues.

2. Throw a party 🎉
Who says birthday parties are just for humans? Celebrate your dog’s birthday by throwing him a party with food 🧁 and games, decorations, and (of course) pet-safe party hats. You’ll want to provide supervision at all times. Take photos of your pup with his party guests, and remember to reward the birthday boy with presents 🎁 like a brand new collar or toy 🧸 For a fun twist on a birthday card, have party guests — both human and animal — stamp their ‘paws’ 🐾 on a piece of poster board.

3. Go on a special trip 🚗
Whether it’s to a local pet-friendly supply store, a park, a beach 🏝️, Grandma’s house, or maybe just a drive, take your dog on a birthday outing or picnic to make his day memorable. Document your outing with plenty of pictures of you with the birthday boy.

4. Pamper your pet 🤗
Give your pup a fresh, warm blanket from the dryer to curl up 🥰 or set up a sprinkler 💦 for your dog to romp through. An extra long walk, a new ball to play with, or a good, long snuggle session will make most any dog’s day!

5. Get your dog’s birthday portrait taken (just like this lucky lady!! Find a photographer 📸 and make an appointment for a special birthday portrait session. Create a photo memory book for your dog, including each year’s birthday photos, as a future keepsake.

🤩 Check out our sweet and beautiful 😍 baby girl, Rose 🌹 who couldn’t contain her excitement 🥳 while on her way to our office 🏥 for her checkup 🩺👩🏻‍⚕️, final puppy 🐶 vaccine 💉 and deworming 😁 She certainly looks forward to these car rides 🚗 with her mama! Does your pet like to go on trips with you?

Here are 5 Reasons Why Dogs Love Car Rides!

1. The nose 👃 knows
Dogs 🐩 have over 200 million receptacles in their noses for receiving scent messages. A ride in the car with the window open is an intense sensory experience for your dog. As the car moves and the scents change, your dog is constantly getting updated information about the world 🌎 around him or her.

2. Home on wheels 🛞
Your dog views the family car as an extension of the family home 🏡 When in the car 🚙 with you, they feel like they are in their home with their family. They will naturally want to be with you in this mobile version of the home.

3. It feels like hunting 🤭
Some dog behaviorists think that riding in a car feels like hunting to a dog. The forward motion of the car surrounded by other moving cars makes your dog 🐕 feel like she or he is part of a pack on a hunting expedition. This sensation is said to give your dog a feeling of euphoria 😁

4. The spirit of adventure 😎
Dogs tend to be naturally curious and outgoing, so they love it when something new and exciting happens. A car ride is a great adventure for them, full of new sights, smells, and sounds!

5. The promise of a treat 🍖
Many dogs know that part of the fun of a car ride is the opportunity to stop for a delicious people food snack (in MODERATION 🙂). They might just be wise that they may receive a puppi-chino or a few licks of an ice cream cone 🍦 are in his or her future.

📌 Don’t forget a few common-sense safety rules when you take your dog out in the car 🚘 Dogs are safest in the rear of the car in either a harness or crate. It’s fun for your dog to sit unrestrained in the front seat and stick his head out the window, but that might not be the safest thing. It’s also a good idea to keep small dogs out of your lap when driving. And of course, never leave your dog in a hot 🥵 car.
