It has been a great honour to be part of the PhotoArk project, and after 14 months of waiting we have finally seen the amazing results. It's not easy to deliver over 200 species of aquatic animals in a few days when we are only one aquatic species supplier, and it proves once again that CWA is a highly efficient team.

This impressively patterned fish is a leopard cactus pleco - a species of suckermouth armored catfish found in South America. Like many other species belonging to the same family of fish, this pleco needs fast-flowing water with high levels of oxygen to survive. Unfortunately, dams have been built in many areas where this fish occurs, causing vital habitat to flood, which in turn has led to population declines. Photo taken at CWA.

2023年2月，菖葳國際邀請了德國專業水族YouTuber - Sascha Hoyer來台灣進行深度考察。同時，菖葳國際多年來所籌組的專業團隊也協助安排了所有行程，讓這位德國水族專家得以訪問並拍攝全台各類型觀賞水生動物養殖場、數家專業水族零售店，甚至專訪多個中央政府機構，展現台灣政府對水族產業的重視程度。

這項為期兩年的專業拍攝計畫，旨在期望透過德國專業水族、動保專家的鏡頭，向世界各國傳達台灣觀賞魚產業的核心競爭力。同時也期盼世界各國政府能夠看到臺灣從政府、學者，至民間業者皆有著緊密的合作關係，從而突破台灣觀賞魚出口至各國的貿易壁壘。

於此同時，菖葳團隊甚至協同國內的專業的研究學者及野外探險專家，在臺灣西南部與東部展開至少六條溪流的野外調查拍攝計畫。

這樣的拍攝計畫，除了為開拓商業目的外，我們更希望將臺灣美麗的原生環境呈現在世人眼中，喚起大眾對保育自然生態的重視。

最後，由衷地感謝農業部漁業署、動植物防疫檢疫署，以及獸醫研究所獸醫研究所等中央政府機關的傾囊相助，使我們得以完成這部史無前例的產業紀錄片。

In February 2023, CWA invited Sascha Hoyer, a German professional aquarium YouTuber, to Taiwan for an in-depth study tour. At the same time, a team of professional aquarists organised by CWA over the years helped to arrange the itinerary so that the German aquarist was able to visit and photograph a variety of aquatic animal farms, several professional aquarium retail shops and even a number of government agencies, demonstrating the importance that the Taiwanese government attaches to the aquarium industry.

This two-year professional photography project aims to communicate the core competitiveness of Taiwan's ornamental fish industry to the rest of the world through the lens of German professional aquarists and animal welfare experts. At the same time, it is hoped that governments around the world will see the close cooperation between government, academia and the private enterprises in Taiwan and thus break down trade barriers in the export of Taiwan's ornamental fish to other countries.

Moreover, the CWA team even worked with professional scientists and wild caught experts in Taiwan to start a field survey and photography programme of at least six streams in south-western and eastern Taiwan.

In addition to the commercial purpose of this filming project, we also hope to showcase Taiwan's beautiful native environment to the world and raise public awareness of the importance of preserving the natural ecology.

Finally, we would like to express my sincere gratitude to the government agencies, such as the Taiwan Fisheries Agency, the Taiwan Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency and Veterinary Research Institute, for their generous support in enabling us to complete this unprecedented documentary on the industry.

In April 2023, after working with the team of National Geographic “The Photo Ark” to film Taiwan's local captive-bred and wild aquatic animals, CWA conducted an exclusive interview with Joe Sartore, who came to Taiwan to share his filming experience.
