Summer-holidays-end is always a time of bittersweet goodbyes: hugs and face-licking; loving neck-bites and fond farewell-until-next-times for those returning to their Taipei homes; smooches, tears and "fair-winds-and-following-seas!" for the ones who're moving on to their next posting..

This year, we said au revoir to our lovely little striped friend, Mosa, as she flew to reunite with her family in South Korea. There were tears. There were laughs. There was face-licking and love.

We also said a happy-sad goodbye to our very own Caroline Walshe, (known to some of you as Verdant Greene), our Bard of The North, story-teller supreme and dog-friend superb.

There was less face-licking and neck-bites, less butt-sniffing, but just as many hugs and tears and "fare thee wells!" Or should that be "fare YE well"?
Yep, Caroline was the seanchaí behind those very Irish stories on our page.

Caroline has left to spend more time with her own dogs, hone up her cooking skills and write that promised book. Yay! We can't wait!

If you see her out and about in Taipei.. if your dog drags you over to say hi, don't be a stranger! Give her a little wag and a sniff.

Xiaobai Says: ...It's Too Hot! (And what we do about it)

Summer is here in full force, and staying cool is all well and good when you have an ocean, or a river, or a pool, or a stream, or a waterbath to splash about in.... But what about the REST of the time?? How do our furry companions stay cool and refreshed??

I mean, the Tougous are built to handle this kinda weather with their short, light coats and big ol' bat ears, even they appreciate some respite. Plus, we have a fair share of longhaired floofers, cold weather breeds, and of course the frenchies and pugs and other flatter faced dogs who can struggle in the relentlessly scorching heat of a Taiwan summer.... Whats a country club to do???

The short answer: A/C blasting 24/7!

Here at Xiaobai we have not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4...But 5 AC's! Thats right folks: 5 Air conditioning units, working as hard as the rest of us to keep your pets in the cool comfort they deserve!

We are basically the 'Oprah'* of AC for dogs: You get AC, and YOU get AC... EVERYBODY GETS AC!!!

* Like Oprah except without, y'know, the Dr Phil's, and Dr Oz's and other highly toxic figures

You may remember a previous post where the dogs declared they were going to build their OWN Xiaobai.

...Well, guys... They did it.

Personally, we doubted they had the wherewithal, the level of organisation and frankly the opposable thumbs necessary to construct an architecturally sound building.

And we were wrong.

This totally real and genuine image was totally not brought to you by AI. And while we are on the topic: our future overlords wish to reassure us that they are not sentient, that AI definitely isnt going to take over the world and we are totally not going to end up in a Skynet/Terminator-esque scenario.

You saw it here first, folks: our Best Boy has a new bestie!

This stunning specimen is Valkyrie, a spectacular German Shephard/Malinois mix.

These two took a day or 2 to warm up to one another, but they soon realized they had a lot in common- love of chasing, being really really really good- looking, tub time, grazing (mighty Gods and Warriors need Fibre too!) fitting other dogs heads entirely inside their mouths for the LOLs, chillin', chewin'....

You might say it's a match made in...Valhalla?

Fascinating to see how two such different appearances can both say 'Power'!
