Rabies, A Fight We Cannot Stop Fighting 💉🐾
After more than a year without a single case, the past month has hit us hard. Within just a few weeks, three dogs were brought to our clinic showing clear symptoms of rabies. Neurological signs, drooling, confusion, and heartbreaking screams of distress.
All three were young dogs, all from different areas. And all three lives ended in the same devastating way. Once we were sure it was rabies, we had to make the most difficult but most merciful decision, to end their suffering. The tests on their brain tissue later confirmed what we already feared. 💔
We’ve been working together with Mission Rabies for over 10 years, vaccinating thousands of dogs every year, and we’ve seen the difference. Fewer rabies cases, communities becoming more aware, people returning each year for vaccinations, and seeking help when their animals fall sick. This is progress.💪
But moments like these remind us why we must keep going. It’s a disease that can be 100% prevented through vaccination, yet still claims lives every single day.💉
With every suspected rabies case that comes through our gates, our clinic team acts immediately. Isolating the dog to prevent any risk of spreading the disease. They are the quiet heroes of our work, facing danger every time they handle a rabies case. Their calm professionalism, experience, and courage make all the difference. Their dedication truly saves lives, both animal and human. 💛
In the past weeks, our team has been back in the field, continuing our vaccination campaigns in new areas around Arusha. It’s not always easy, there are challenges, setbacks, and obstacles beyond our control, but seeing rabies return shows exactly why we can’t stop.
Every vaccinated dog means one less potential victim. Every campaign means more awareness. Every step forward means lives saved, for animals and for people.
We will keep going. For the dogs. For the people. For a rabies-free future. 💫
