At the junkyard where he works, Francine's dad finds a creature hissing at him during lunch. He comes home later to reveal his surprise, a kitten. Francine goes to pet him, but Catherine interrupts and grabs him, nuzzling him and hugging him and so forth.

Francine starts the intro by trying to choose which pet she would like: either a Komodo Dragon, or a Narwhal. Next, Buster goes on to say that he wants a Pterodactyl. Then, Arthur claims the only pet to have is a dog before he's interrupted by Binky, who claims to want an Ameoba. Arthur tries again, but Brain wants to talk about virtual hamsters. Both of them are interrupted by Francine, who claims it's her intro and how Arthur keeps selfishly hogging it.

Attendees can talk to the breeders, meet the cats, and discuss the personalities of the different breeds to help find the right fit for your home. Vendors of cat-related articles will also be on hand.

The show is open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for children younger than 12, and free for children under 5.

The sure highlight of the weekend will be the Owner & Cat Costume Contest — a favorite for the public to view — a team event where the owner and the cat dress up on a theme. Please note that all participants in the contest need to be entered in the show. Previous entries have been JFK & Marilyn Monroe, Marie Antoinette & her Turkish Angora, and Raggedy Ann & Raggedy Andy. One never knows which fun team will enter this year. This year the judge of the Owner & Cat Costume contest is Russell Webb, CFA vice president and judge.

Household pets are judged on an individual level. Their looks, personality and grooming come heavily into play. Any cat is able to be entered in this class – it is very inclusive and fun to watch.

The eight judges are from as far away as Germany and all over the U.S., including Indiana, Nevada and Texas.

Pedigreed cats will be judged on their breed standard – the shape of the head, the length of their tail and the qualities of their coat – which details the “perfect” cat of each breed.

This is the first CFA show to be held in the MetroWest Boston area – different cats, different judges, different association from any previous show. It’s also the first NEMO show open to the public post-COVID.

The show at The Verve Hotel Boston, 1360 Worcester St., is expected to feature up to 175 cats from as many as 30 breeds to be judged. Exhibitors can enter their own cats (by Aug. 22) so they can participate in the show, too. Kittens and household pets are welcome without a registration number. but all others must obtain a number from CFA.
