Today it is believed that the direct ancestors of modern Latvian heavy trucks were the ancient local forest horses that lived on the coast of the Baltic Sea 10,000 years ago - massive, with wide strong hooves. This is confirmed by the similarity of the Latvian breed with Scandinavian horses, which are also considered descendants of the forest horse.
