This breed began to be bred in the USA in 2001.

☝️The breeders sought to create a large sized domestic cat with an exotic wild coloration, but with the docile nature of a domestic cat, adapted for comfortable keeping at home.

🐆Savannah (TICA breed code - SV) is a hybrid breed resulting from crossing a wild African serval (Leptailurus serval) and a domestic cat (originally used breeds such as the Egyptian Mau, Oriental Shorthair, Ocicat and Bengal cat).

✅To date, breeders prefer pure matings Serval X Savannah or Savannah X Savannah, trying to avoid infusions of other breeds.

Serval coat color🐆

There are differences in the coloration of different geographical races of the serval.

📌Servals living in the steppe and sparsely forested areas are distinguished by large spots on a light background.

📌Forest servals are darker, squat, and their spots are smaller; before they were isolated in a separate species of "serval cats" or servalin.

📌The transition between these two types is smooth, especially where their ranges are adjacent to each other. So, in Uganda and Angola, individuals with large spots on a dark background came across, and in Guinea, Togo and Ethiopia - with small spots on a light yellow background.

📌In the mountainous regions of Kenya, black servals (melanists) are found; here they make up to half of the population.

Savannah's eyes

The upper line of the eye is in the form of a boomerang, which is lowered to the line of the nose with its top.

😻The lower line of the eye is almond-shaped. Teardrop markings are bright, directed from the corner of the eye to the nose.

🐆Eye color does not depend on color; richer, brighter colors are preferred. The eyes are set moderately deep, under fairly developed eyebrows.

Savannah's legs are very long and slender, strong and muscular.

🐆The hind legs are slightly longer than the front. Because of this high-leggedness, a false impression of a "cow" postav can be created.

😻The paws are oval, small to medium in size.

What kind of ears should a savannah have?

😻 The ears are large and set high; broad at the base and with rounded tips.

The ears are so wide that the distance between them is minimal.

📌 Their weight can be from 5 till 15 kg!
📌 The price of a kitten doesn’t only depend on its ancestors. It’s also about the quality of their colours. If the dots on their fur are extraordinary bright and big it means that the kitten is of more value
📌 This cat breed is not supposed to show any visual aspects of a typical domestic cat, so if any white dots appear on their fur it’s considered as disqualification
📌Even so Savannah Cats have pretty wild ancestors, they are getting used to a leash easily and get along with other animals as well

What does Savannah cat love?

Savannah cats really love to take a bath so if you have the opportunity please let them swim in lakes during the warm season!

☝️Also they love to look down at things while being high up, so if you have a high cupboard, we are sure your cat will like it a lot.

Savannah cats like to try the taste of all plants in your house. ☺️ So if you have any plants which migh be poisonous, make sure to put them far away or even better gift to someone.

Walks, running and taking a bath are their 3 favourite things. 🐆 If you don’t have space for walks next to your house be ready to take your pet for a walk for at least 30 minutes on the street.

What to expect from living with a Savannah cat🐆

Well, a lot of surprises are waiting for you for sure! It never gets boring!
🥰This cat is very loveable, it can peacefully purr on your lap but also it can show its personality running around like crazy around the house!

🫶You should take this cat for a walk on a leash as often as possible! The more, the better.
Make sure to comb its hair and to cut its nails weekly.

🐈Savannah cat doesn’t like to be left alone and it loves its owner a lot. In this matter it behaves more like a dog, you wil be pleasantly surprised when your cat will start to bring you a ball and beg you to play with it.

Where are you from?

For the first time the Serval cats were mentioned in ancient Egypt. Together with Jungle cats and Steppe cats they were helping people to overcome the plagues of mice and snakes.

🐆That´s why the ancient Egyptians valued those cats a sacred animals.
The homelands of this exotic cat with big ears are the forests and steppes of the Equatorian and South Africa, where they actually still live today.

☝️Because of their unique colour the Servals are often called “Baby-leopard” or “African Leopard” in Africa. Sometimes they are called “Bush cat” because they live in the bushes next to the water.

🥰Among all the wild cats the Serval is the most domesticated and tameable one.
Now they are being tamed all over the world because they get along with other wild animals pretty well.
